Strongest Maniac: Born in an Asylum

Chapter 54: Uncle Wang, the Kind, Righteous, and Sick Man

After seeing the leader off, Lee Fortune breathed a sigh of relief.

He never would have guessed that One-Eye, the man who had been mixed in with the mental patients, was actually a leader. It just goes to show, you can't judge a book by its cover.

The man he had initially mistaken for a mental patient was actually a leader. He felt that if he dressed himself up a bit, he too could have the look of a leader.

"Such good tea, and he didn't even finish it. What a waste," Lee Fortune said.

He picked up the teacup that One-Eye had taken a sip from, unwilling to waste it. He gulped it all down in one go and nodded in satisfaction. The taste was indeed excellent.

Then, a thought occurred to him.

For such a high-ranking leader to be so concerned about a mental patient, there must be something special about him.

Thinking back, it seemed there was.

He was an unkillable cockroach.

Full of energy.

In the hospital room.

Leo looked down at the bandages wrapped around his body. They were very uncomfortable. He wanted to tear them off. A passing nurse saw this, her eyes widening in horror, and she rushed over.

"You can't! You'll aggravate the wounds! You have burns over 50% of your body! You're only alive because of our superb medical skills! You can't..."

"Oh!"

The nurse stared, as if in disbelief. She saw the bandages peeling off, but there were no signs of burns underneath. Instead, a lot of black, hard material was being torn off, revealing smooth, fair skin, like that of a newborn baby.

I'm seeing things!

"Ah!"

"Doctor, something's happened!"

The nurse screamed and ran out of the room.

Leo and Walter looked at the departing nurse in confusion. They put their heads together and whispered.

"We need to be careful. I think there might be something wrong with her up here."

"Mmm, I know."

As they spoke, they pointed to their heads. The meaning was clear: She definitely has a problem.

Soon, a group of doctors and nurses rushed in. The nurse with the "problem" pointed at Leo. "Doctor, it's him! His skin is fine! There are no signs of burns at all!"

The doctor frowned. Before seeing it for himself, he didn't believe it. Especially after hearing the nurse's words, he found it quite strange. You're an experienced nurse. You shouldn't be so surprised. And we must believe in science. Have you ever seen a patient with such severe burns heal completely overnight?

Leo lay quietly on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. He was used to being surrounded by a crowd and knew what to do. Don't move, don't speak. Just let them study him for a while.

Soon, gasps of astonishment filled the room.

"A miracle! This is a miracle!" a doctor said, his face flushed.

He had removed all the bandages from Leo's body and saw not a single burn. He had healed completely in one night. This was simply impossible in the history of medicine.

"How did you do it?" the doctor asked.

Leo blinked and, after a long silence, said, "It was Walter. Walter's acupuncture."

The doctors looked at Walter, who proudly puffed out his chest. "That's right, it was me. My acupuncture is very powerful. If you believe me, I can help you."

"But you took my needle case. Can you give it back to me? I need it," Walter said, looking at the doctors unhappily. He didn't want anything else, just his needle case.

A nurse whispered in the doctor's ear, "Doctor, don't forget they're mental patients. You can't believe what they say."

"Right, I almost forgot," the doctor said. He felt he had been overthinking things. Believing a mental patient's words... wasn't that a sign of sickness itself?

Just then, the head surgeon who had always treated Leo arrived. Seeing the situation, he frowned and asked, "What's going on here? The hospital is so busy, why are you all gathered here?"

"Chief, come look at this! It's a miracle! He's completely fine!" the nurse said excitedly.

The head surgeon walked over curiously and studied him carefully.

"Chief, what's going on?" a doctor asked.

Leo's condition was astonishing. Such severe burns, and yet he was completely fine. What had happened overnight?

Even Leo didn't know. If you had to ask why, it would start with his first snore. That snore had harmonized with the natural flow of things, and energy particles had slowly integrated into his body, growing new flesh and skin.

The Qi Gong Cultivation Method was a very powerful practice. The cultivation requirements were extremely high, with strict demands on one's state of mind. A normal person could at most absorb energy from food, while Leo, with his lack of desire and his calm state of mind, was in harmony with heaven and earth, absorbing the purest energy from nature.

The chief surgeon was about to say it was a miracle, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw Vice Director Lee's figure. His expression became serious.

Lee Fortune had been about to ask what they were doing, but when he heard the chief surgeon mention him, he stood quietly by the door, waiting to hear what he would say.

"It was the Vice Director," the chief surgeon said. "Yesterday's surgery was performed by the Vice Director himself. You may not know this, but the Vice Director is known as the 'Divine Hand' in our hospital. A surgery performed by him cannot be judged by ordinary standards."

"It must be the Vice Director's superb medical skills that led to the patient's rapid recovery."

"Praise the Vice Director, my idol, the trailblazer I need to learn from for a lifetime."

Lee Fortune stood at the door, his mood lifting. Although he didn't know what had happened, he was very pleased with the praise. He cleared his throat a few times, signaling for them not to overdo it. He had heard enough. Saying too much would have a bad effect.

The cough attracted everyone's attention.

The chief surgeon looked at Lee Fortune in surprise and hurried over. "Vice Director, you're here."

"Mmm," Lee Fortune nodded, walking over with his hands behind his back. "I saw you all gathered here. What were you discussing?"

The surrounding doctors and nurses had a sudden realization. The chief surgeon must have seen the Vice Director at the door and had been shamelessly showering him with praise. He was so obsequious. Some of them regretted not being the one to praise the Vice Director, missing the chance to make an impression.

"Vice Director, come and see! The patient with the severe burns from yesterday has recovered! To others, this is a miracle, but I know it must be the Vice Director's superb medical skills, bringing the dead back to life, regrowing flesh on white bones."

The chief surgeon had seen Lee Fortune's social media posts and knew he was about to become the Director. If he could show off his shining points to the Vice Director, maybe he could be promoted to Vice Director himself. The thought was a little exciting.

The surrounding doctors were impressed by the chief surgeon's words. Perhaps this was why he was the chief surgeon, and they were still just attending physicians.

"Hmm?"

Lee Fortune was very surprised. He went over to take a look. When he saw Leo's condition, he said with a mix of astonishment and joy, "Given his current condition, can he be discharged?"

Silence!

The atmosphere of shameless flattery disappeared.

Vice Director Lee was so calm. He didn't modestly wave his hand, but directly asked if the patient could be discharged.

This seemed a bit inappropriate. Shouldn't they call a few reporters, take some photos, and hire a writer to write an article, to properly boast about it?

"Vice Director, we haven't given him a full-body check-up yet. We don't know the specific situation," the chief surgeon reminded him, then added, "But a patient treated by the Vice Director's hands, even without a check-up, is definitely fine. I firmly believe he can be discharged."

Lee Fortune had no other intentions. He was just afraid of Leo. He only hoped to send these two mental patients back to Green Mountain.

As for the chief surgeon's flattery, he was still very pleased. He patted his shoulder and said, "Mmm, you have a good point. But to be safe, you should arrange for a full-body check-up."

"Rest assured, Vice Director. I'll let you know as soon as the results are out," the chief surgeon said.

In a normal hospital room.

"You're so good."

Leon looked at his girlfriend adoringly. To have such a good woman as his girlfriend was pure bliss. He was so happy he could cry.

He gazed at his girlfriend's face, fair and smooth, her warm smile soothing his heart. It even made him forget his own infertility.

"You have to get well soon, or I'll be worried," the woman said gently.

"Mmm," Leon nodded, moved. He had completely fallen into a gentle trap, unable to extricate himself, with no chance of waking up.

The woman nonchalantly placed her purse in front of her. The leather on the bottom was cracked, very noticeable.

"Your purse is broken."

"It's a pity," Leon said. What a good woman. She won't even throw away a broken purse. She must be a frugal and good woman.

The woman smiled. "It's okay. It's broken, but I can still use it. No need to waste money."

Leon grabbed the woman's smooth hand and said stubbornly, "No. My girlfriend can't be worse off than others. This card has my savings. Take it and buy a new bag, an expensive one. Otherwise, I won't be happy."

The woman took the card, fell silent for a moment, then kissed Leon's cheek and said shyly, "You're so good."

Leon touched his kissed cheek and giggled foolishly. It was a gentle, warm feeling, as if he were enveloped by the sun, floating on cloud nine. He was so happy.

"Uncle Wang is coming to visit you later," the woman said.

Leon was pleasantly surprised. "Uncle Wang is coming? That's great! I've been wanting to thank him in person for introducing me to such a wonderful girlfriend. I'm so grateful."

He felt like the luckiest man alive. He had originally been afraid of the asylum, but thinking of his girlfriend filled him with strength. What was there to be afraid of? If he was afraid of even this, how could he protect the woman he loved most?

In the hospital parking lot.

A man got out of a luxury car, adorned with gold and silver, a thick gold chain gleaming around his neck. His bald head only made it shine brighter.

He was Uncle Wang, a man in his forties who still considered himself young.

Cough, cough!

Uncle Wang got out of the car, leaned on the door, and coughed, spitting a glob of phlegm onto the ground. The phlegm was green and thick. He glanced at it and paid it no mind.

"I'm getting 'heated' again. I need to find a way to cool down."

He rubbed his eyes. He had been having hallucinations lately, as if he could see a wider range, a 360-degree view with no blind spots. And small bumps had appeared around his eyes. When he squeezed them in the mirror, a disgusting green gunk would come out. It was very painful.

He had come this time for a simple reason: to visit Little Leon, and also to get a check-up at the hospital to see what was wrong with him. He hadn't been feeling well lately, and his mind was always playing tricks on him.
