Strongest Maniac: Born in an Asylum

Chapter 27: Exceptionally Gifted

After leaving room 666, Director Hess went outside and walked across the asylum's lawn. After searching for a while, he finally found the scene he had been thinking of.

It had indeed sneaked in from underground.

The manhole cover was lying on the side.

"You've come all this way, but you don't even know how to put the manhole cover back."

Director Hess gradually disappeared into the darkness.

In the room.

Director Hess took out the canine tooth he had picked up. Under the light, the fang gleamed with a sharp, dark light.

"This is no ordinary dog's tooth."

He took out his phone, dialed a number, and held it to his ear. Soon, a voice came from the other side.

"What's up?"

"Your question makes me want to hang up. I have something here that you might be interested in, but looking at you, you don't seem very interested. I might as well just hang up."

"It's not that I'm not interested, it's that we've found their bodies. They were all very young, died in the city. Dealing with the aftermath is very troublesome."

"Come to my place. I'll show you something. You'll definitely be interested."

"Alright, I'll be there in a bit."

He hung up the phone.

Director Hess continued to study the tooth. He scraped it against the tabletop, and it easily left a mark. It was very sharp. A flesh-and-blood body would not be able to withstand it.

"The Abyssal entity's intelligence has increased again."

He had gone back to the surveillance room earlier and reviewed the footage. He had seen a very small, cute dog in the corridor. It was impossible for the mental asylum to have a dog. It could only mean that the dog was an Abyssal entity that had sneaked in from underground.

It had transformed into a deceptive appearance, gaining the trust of humans, blending into the crowd, completely inconspicuous. No one would have thought that such a cute dog would be an Abyssal entity.

"Sigh, what can I say about you? You could have gone anywhere, but you had to come here. And even if you did, you had to go to room 666. Aren't you just asking for trouble?"

From beginning to end, for Director Hess, the most dangerous place in the entire mental asylum was room 666.

After a long while, there was a noise at the door. The other party burst in without knocking.

"One-Eye, you're as rude as ever," Director Hess said, turning his head.

One-Eye, with his black eye patch, had a cold face.

"What is it?"

He didn't waste any words with Director Hess. His heart was heavy. My pressure is so great. How can I have the leisure to joke with you?

Director Hess tossed the fang to him. "This is it. Take a look."

One-Eye caught the fang and examined it carefully. He felt a cold sensation as he touched it. He took out a palm-sized metal box from his pocket, opened it, and put the fang inside.

This was a high-tech product.

A group of scientists had worked day and night to create this finished product. They had incorporated the genes of various Abyssal entities into it. By scanning, they could identify which type of Abyssal entity it was.

Immediately after, light shot out from the small holes at the four corners of the metal box, forming a three-dimensional rotating image.

It had a very sci-fi feel.

"Level-two Abyssal entity, the Funeral Dog."

The one-eyed man frowned. The four graduates were all level-two. Theoretically, they shouldn't have died at the hands of a Funeral Dog. But considering they were all recent graduates, and one of them was a pampered young lady, and they were in a dark sewer, all factors combined, it wasn't impossible.

"Where's the body?" the one-eyed man asked.

Director Hess said, "I knew you would ask that. But if I tell you, you might not believe it. Before we get to that, I think you should watch this video."

He copied the surveillance video to his cell phone and then handed it to One-Eye.

"Take a look at this first."

One-Eye watched the video, his expression gradually turning serious.

Director Hess took a sip of his goji berry and red date tea. "As you can see, the Abyssal entities' intelligence is constantly improving. They can adapt to the rules of the human world, and just as we are analyzing them, they are also analyzing us. They turn into all kinds of cute animals and blend in with the crowd."

"This is a very frightening situation."

"Ordinary people have no way of distinguishing them."

The one-eyed man finished watching the video, his thoughts heavy. He asked, "I've seen the video. Now tell me, where is the body? There's nothing I wouldn't believe."

"It was eaten," Director Hess said.

Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room grew a bit quiet.

Or rather, awkward.

The one-eyed man looked at Director Hess with his one eye.

It was as if to say, Are you f---ing with me?

Director Hess looked back at One-Eye, his gaze very serious. He nodded. "It's true. I'm not lying to you."

"You ate it?" One-Eye asked.

Director Hess said, "What kind of place is this?"

"A mental asylum."

"You're right, it's a mental asylum. And it went into a room it shouldn't have gone into. It was eaten, with only one tooth left. You could say there's not even a corpse left," Director Hess lamented.

The one-eyed man still didn't believe him. "You're telling me a level-two Abyssal entity was eaten by a patient in your mental asylum? Why don't you just say an ant ate an elephant?"

Director Hess said, "An ant can indeed eat an elephant. In the animal world, haven't you seen that episode? If you haven't, I suggest you watch it when you get back. It's really shocking. Nature is so magical. There's strength in numbers, and there's a reason for that."

The atmosphere in the room grew quiet again.

One-Eye took a deep breath and said directly, "Hess, have you gone crazy from being the director of a mental asylum? That's a level-two Abyssal entity. No matter how many ordinary people there are, it's useless. Even if you put all the patients in your mental asylum together with a level-two Abyssal entity, it would just be a massacre."

Director Hess didn't agree with him. "But now it only has one fang left. There's really no corpse left. There's no need to lie to you."

"You're definitely going to ask who it was next."

"First, read this document. You should know after that."

Director Hess took a document from the drawer.

Title: « Analysis of the Behavior of the Patients in Ward 666 »

One-Eye didn't waste any more time with Director Hess. He took the document and glanced at it casually. At first, he was very impatient, but gradually, he became engrossed, flipping the pages very slowly.

Director Hess didn't interrupt him.

He had started this file analysis project not long after Leo was admitted to the mental asylum.

As One-Eye read the document, his brows furrowed tightly. The only sound in the room was the rustling of paper.

After an unknown amount of time, he finished reading the file.

"This is the core content of my research over the years. I wouldn't show it to an ordinary person, but you're different. Who told us to have such a good relationship?"

"Now, what do you think?"

Director Hess had long since discovered Leo's problem. This was not something a normal mental patient could do. For years, day after day, he had been walking on the edge of death, yet he was not crippled, not disabled, but always full of vitality.

The probability of this was lower than winning the lottery.

It could be called a miracle.

One-Eye said in a deep voice, "Exceptionally gifted!"
