Chapter 12: Team Rocket Officer Sham

The female Rocket officer smirked as she observed Marcel's calm demeanor.

"Playing dumb? No matter. I'll make you spill everything you know!"

With that, she pulled a Poké Ball from her pocket, her fingers lightly gripping its miniature form.

"Remember my name—Team Rocket Officer Sham!" she declared before tossing the Poké Ball into the air.

"Go, Slowking!"

In a flash of red light, a pink Pokémon with a regal shell crown appeared. Its intelligent gaze fixed on Marcel as it stood proudly in the dim alley.

Slowking—the evolved form of Slowpoke, triggered by using the King's Rock. Unlike its pre-evolved forms, Slowking is renowned for its exceptional wisdom and heightened awareness.

Marcel immediately recognized the rare Pokémon.

"A Slowking? Impressive. You really are worthy of being a Team Rocket officer to possess such a rare Pokémon," Marcel remarked.

Indeed, Slowking was a rarity, as the conditions for its evolution were still shrouded in mystery, and capturing one in the wild was an extraordinary feat.

Sham smirked but didn't entertain his comment. Instead, she coldly replied, "Don't think you can stall for time. This alley is already surrounded by Team Rocket."

As she spoke, more Rocket grunts emerged from the shadows, their malicious grins illuminated by the faint streetlights. They surrounded Marcel, each releasing their Pokémon to block any escape route.

Ekans, Arbok, Koffing, Weezing, Zubat, Golbat, Rattata, Raticate, and even a Beedrill—all highly aggressive Pokémon under Team Rocket's command—formed a menacing wall around him.

Marcel quickly counted them. "One, two, three… nine. Plus you, that makes ten."

The numbers perfectly matched the system's task parameters.

Sham smirked again, her confidence palpable. "Ten is more than enough to deal with you! Hand over your Metagross and explain your origins, and maybe I'll consider letting you go," she said, running her fingers over her earrings.

Her Slowking stood ready, its eyes glowing faintly as if it was already anticipating the fight. Sham was certain of her victory with her subordinates and their Pokémon at her side.

Marcel tilted his head slightly. "You seem awfully confident. Do you really think you've already won?"

"Do you think you can still resist?" Sham snapped, signaling her Slowking.

Slowking's eyes flared with blue light as it unleashed its psychic powers, attempting to immobilize Marcel.

But Marcel was ready. "Metagross, let's go!"

He threw a Poké Ball, releasing his Metagross in a burst of light.

"Buzz—!"

The air trembled as the enormous, car-sized Pokémon materialized. Its steely frame glistened under the faint light, and its sheer presence made the Rocket grunts hesitate.

The Slowking's telekinesis clashed with Metagross's innate resistance to psychic energy, shattering harmlessly. Metagross remained unfazed.

Marcel leapt onto Metagross's back as it rose into the air.

"Stop him! Don't let him escape!" Sham yelled, her voice filled with urgency. "Slowking, use Psychic to hold it down!"

The Rocket grunts sprang into action.

"Beedrill, use Fell Stinger!"

"Golbat, Supersonic!"

"Arbok, Poison Sting!"

One grunt even pulled a device resembling a shoulder-mounted launcher from his bag—a Pokémon-catching net designed for subduing large, wild Pokémon.

But before he could fire, Metagross suddenly changed course.

Instead of escaping, it pivoted sharply in midair and charged toward the Rockets below.

"Wait—he's not running?! Move!" Sham shouted, realizing too late that she'd misread Marcel's intentions.

Marcel smirked. "Too late!"

Under Marcel's command, Metagross descended like a meteor. It smashed into Beedrill with a powerful Bullet Punch, sending the bug-type crashing into the ground with such force that it left a crater. Beedrill was instantly knocked out.

The remaining Rocket Pokémon recoiled in fear, their confidence shaken. One by one, they began retreating, unwilling to face such overwhelming power.

"Damn it! Slowking, Water Gun!" Sham ordered, attempting to regain control.

Slowking nodded, extending its stubby arms. The jewel on its crown shimmered as it launched a high-pressure jet of water toward Metagross.

Marcel remained composed. Reaching for another Poké Ball at his waist, he released his next Pokémon.

"Bulbasaur, let's go!"

The small, green Pokémon appeared in Marcel's arms.

"Bulbasaur!"

"Use Razor Leaf!" Marcel commanded.

Bulbasaur's vines trembled as a flurry of sharp leaves shot toward the incoming Water Gun.

Swish, swish, swish!

The leaves collided with the water, but they were overpowered, splintering under the force of Slowking's attack.

Marcel frowned. Bulbasaur's level is still too low to counter something like Slowking head-on. But it's enough to buy time.

The delay allowed Metagross to finish off an escaping Arbok with another Bullet Punch.

"Metagross, Light Screen!" Marcel commanded.

Metagross erected a shimmering barrier just in time. Slowking's Water Gun struck the Light Screen and burst into harmless droplets.

Taking advantage of the moment, Marcel reached into his bag, pulling out earplugs. He quickly inserted them into both his and Bulbasaur's ears.

"Metagross, Metal Sound!"

Zzzzzz!

A piercing metallic screech echoed through the alley, causing the Rocket grunts and their Pokémon to clutch their ears in agony.

The unbearable sound left them stunned and disoriented, giving Marcel the upper hand in the chaotic battle.
