STRIKER: Independent Beast Tamer

Chapter 261: Tangled web

Class:

After the small talk, I turned towards the instructor and asked him about the top 10 mercenary teams. Jacob was stunned because he had heard a piece of news from Elder Derek.

But still, he started to explain. Betsy and Daniel were unaware of the situation. They were also interested in knowing about the top 10 mercenary teams.

"The mercenary teams are formed by the beast tamers. The top 10 mercenary teams not only have powerful beast tamers, but they also have rich resources."

"Most of the beast tamers come from the beast taming families. They don't lack resources."

"Most importantly, the city administration gives them tasks to explore the uncharted territory of the wilderness."

"As long as they explore a new area and map it in detail, they will receive huge resources from the city administration."

"Because of this, they have a strong reputation in City A. Even some medium and small-sized beast taming families don't dare to offend them," Jacob said in a solemn tone.

"Gasp!"

"They seem to be too powerful," Daniel exclaimed.

"Every city has mercenaries, but the mercenary team here has a strong background," Betsy said in a calm tone.

"I wonder what kind of resources they get for finding new areas in the wilderness," Jeremy asked.

Jacob's eyes flickered.

He said, "That's why strong beast tamers are needed. As long as we can find new territory, we can expand the human population. We can reduce the human settlements around the cities."

"Then everyone can live in the cities. But it's not an easy task. Countless explorers have died previously. But those who succeed can get resources from the Human Alliance."

"Some of them can normally be seen in the top 10 zones," he added.

Hearing this made the faces of the three change. Resources that could only be seen in the top 10 zones? Jeremy's heart was stirred. He still underestimated the power of the top 10 mercenary teams.

No wonder everyone had that panicked expression.

Jacob saw everyone's reaction, but when his gaze fell on Jeremy Night, he still decided to remind him.

"The leaders of the top 10 mercenary teams are powerful. They are Tier-5 and Tier-6 beast tamers," Jacob said.

"Tier-6 beast tamers," Betsy's eyes shone. Even her grandfather was at that level. He was one of the city governors of City B.

Daniel was shocked as well. He remembered the power of the commanders during the beast invasions was at this level.

Jeremy furrowed his eyebrows. Things were getting bigger each day. If he went after the Red Squad Team, then it would become troublesome.

He could go beyond tiers to kill Tier-4 beast tamers, but Tier-5 and Tier-6 beast tamers were on a different level. They could destroy a city.

If they released their lifeline beasts, then their strength would become even stronger.

Jeremy's mood was heavy. His enemy numbers were increasing day by day. He was starting to feel pressure. He had thought Central University 14 was a giant. They could deter all other forces.

But he was wrong from the beginning. Dean Carolyn wouldn't take action unless something big happened. It seemed like the university didn't have policies to handle this type of problem.

Right now, his resolve to leave this city and go to the top 10 zones for better opportunities has become stronger.

Only if he joined some truly powerful force could he act without worry.

Jacob's heart skipped a beat when he saw Jeremy's downcast expression.

"Alright, if you guys want, you can leave. I'm taking Jeremy to Elder Derek," Jacob said.

Betsy and Daniel nodded to him.

Jeremy nodded to them before leaving with instructor Jacob. They didn't talk until they left the Department Building.

"The City Guard Captain spoke to me last night. Is the news about the Red Squad Team real?" Jacob asked.

Jeremy raised his eyebrows in surprise. He then nodded his head in response.

Gasp!

Jacob took a sharp breath.

"One thing led to another. The beast taming families are really taking care of each other. Their members are connected to the top 10 mercenary teams."

"The mercenary teams are the backbone of the city. If things go south, I guess your wish of leaving City A might come true," Jacob added while walking.

Jeremy's eyes flickered. He didn't expect the instructor to reach this conclusion as well.

He then remained silent until they reached another building. Then they entered the building and quickly came to Elder Derek's office.

Creak!

The door opened automatically. Both of them walked inside. Old man Derek was sitting behind the desk, but his mood was not good.

Upon looking at both, his expression turned serious. He asked them to take a seat.

Jeremy sat in the chair, and instructor Jacob sat next to him.

Jeremy found Old man Derek's gaze on him.

"Kid, what's going on with you?"

"I spoke with Captain Nathan. Things are not looking good for you," Derek said in a serious tone.

Jeremy took a deep breath and relaxed himself. Even he found it hard to digest the news.

He then said, "I think someone posted a kill task in the underground network. A Red Squad Team member might have accepted the task."

"No wonder," Jacob uttered.

"It's possible. Captain Nathan came to the same conclusion. The underground network is a troublesome matter. Only the top 10 zones and other big forces can deter it," Old man Derek said with a sigh.

Jeremy Night felt displeased in his heart. He thought if University 14 was stronger, then why would these beast taming families go against the university's interests?

"Dean Carolyn has heard it as well. She has been under a lot of stress lately. When she heard about this matter, she decided to report it to the city governors."

"Only city governors can deter beast tamers from accepting tasks from the underground network," Derek said.

"She has asked me to stay at the university. Don't take a step outside. If the members of the Red Squad take action, it would be troublesome."

"Captain Nathan is likely going to meet the Red Squad members," he added.

Jeremy was surprised. He didn't expect Captain Nathan to act on this quickly.
