Chapter 35: Better to Kill and Seize the Sword
While the two struggled in the Mysterious Realm, the situation outside was rapidly deteriorating.
Currently, there are five giant snakes, each located in different places.
The Goryeo giant snake, due to the swift organization of citizen evacuation by the government, didn't have much time to develop. Additionally, the Pear Blossom Courtyard has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the Lu Country, allowing the Purple Cloud Formation to spread within the country, rendering the giant snake not a significant threat, and it has entered the extermination phase.
The European giant snake is currently suppressed by the Holy Shroud Barrier. This formation is theoretically capable of achieving the same effect as the Purple Cloud Formation, but it's reported that there's an issue with energy supply which has yet to be resolved, resulting in the giant snake being merely restricted in its movement, with the barrier around it not suppressed to the extent of accessing its internal world.
The Australian giant snake roams unchecked along the coastal cities. However, due to Australia's relatively low population, it doesn't provide the giant snake with enough life energy, consequently not significantly increasing its power.
The most dangerous giant snakes are two:
The South American giant snake, once it landed, essentially started a buffet feast. Just like North America, South America lacks its own Transcendent system and is neither strong in technology nor diplomacy, often treated as Miti's backyard, thus offering no resistance to the giant snake.
If the rapid strengthening of the South American giant snake was expected, the situation with the North American giant snake is relatively harder to understand. There was no organization of resident evacuation, no attempts to delay the snake, and not even any pirate-like trash talk to Lu Country, such as demanding the Purple Cloud Formation's principles for the benefit of humanity—demands that would certainly be ignored.
They did nothing.
Some conspiracy theorists claim that the North American giant snake landed on the west coast, which is not only a Miti population hub but also a Blue Party stronghold.
The current leader is from the Red Party, with the next election imminent. Considering the staunch Blue states won't vote Red, and the snake tends to strike denser populations, it implies the more they ignore it, the more Blue State residents perish, seemingly favoring the reelection...
Of course, this is just a conspiracy theory. Such rumors spread mainly because the Department of Homeland Security hasn't done anything, and the superheroes haven't mobilized, leading everyone to become suspicious.
"Now the superheroes are all off to Europe," Liu Longtao messaged in the Cultivator chat group. "There's completely no one managing the two giant snakes in the Americas. Total disaster! North America has five hundred million people, and South America four hundred million. Once they're all consumed, the world can be destroyed."
"No way, really?" the cultivators quickly discussed. "Won't our Lu Country intervene?"
"Hard to manage," Zhang Huaide joined in, "Currently, solving the giant snake issue requires enough Purple Cloud Formation nodes in the area. That's not a small project, and impossible without local cooperation."
As for why the Golden Core True Man hasn't forcibly suppressed local forces for cooperation, that's a comprehensive assessment of pros and cons by the Cabinet, beyond our decision-making.
Liu Longtao brought this up in the group, actually promoting swift interference in hopes that others would help pressure the authorities. Unfortunately, the cultivators didn't seem to care much about the global situation, quickly veering off-topic as they chatted.
"By the way, where's Yan Yu?" Li Zhaojiang interrupted and asked.
"Gone for a mission," replied Chen Lingyun.
"Aren't you supposed to call him brother-in-law?" Qin Meng teased in the group.
"Get lost, get lost, get lost!" Li Zhaojiang replied with a string of 'get lost' characters, "My sister hasn't married him yet! How can he be directly brother-in-law? If you want to marry, you do it!"
"Then old Qin needs to have surgery," Meng Qingxi joked.
"No way," Chen Lingyun replied, "Even a gender change won't work, we can't accommodate more people here."
She lay on the sofa leisurely typing when suddenly Lin Ning beside her asked:
"Isn't it really a big problem? If those two giant snakes in the Americas are left unchecked, they'll become harder to deal with, right?"
"Of course," Chen Lingyun said without looking up from her phone, "In the long run, we must intervene as soon as possible; but in the short term, the later we intervene, the more advantageous it is for us."
"Won't dragging it out become uncontrollable?" Lin Ning was still worried.
"There are many things in the world that get more troublesome the longer they're delayed," Chen Lingyun said leisurely, "Nuclear waste, the greenhouse effect, Voyager 1—now there's just another problem, no need to get so worked up."
Lin Ning was left speechless. She's the type who finishes all her holiday homework as soon as summer vacation starts, disliking this behavior of leaving issues to be solved later.
But she couldn't think of a retort, only sulking:
"If the team captain were here, he definitely wouldn't say that."
"He's living too stressed," Chen Lingyun turned over on the sofa, "If you don't want to be like him, you should learn to turn a blind eye to certain things."
"Ah, the captain's been gone too long," Lin Ning sighed, "I wonder what he's doing."
Anna had stayed in the Lu Country for too long and is now returning to the Northern Border; Tang Xiaolian and Ye Jun took leave to visit their families; Zhou Hongyu, Su Yunjin, and Xie Ruoxi were conscripted to assist the Pear Blossom Courtyard in investigating the Windstorm Snake; as a result, the villa felt noticeably emptier.
