Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 232: Chapter 229

The next day, in the spacious area at the center of the market, three boxing rings had been set up, immediately attracting the attention of many people. They gathered around the rings, watching Aiden and Chris standing on one of them.

"Huh? What's that? Deputy Director Aiden is up there!"

"And so is Chris, the captain of the City lord's guards. What are those round things on their hands? They look like they're wrapped in layers of cloth."

Chris and Aiden were both fully clothed, unlike the Earth tradition of wearing only shorts, and each had a pair of boxing gloves on their hands.

"Everyone, look over here." Aiden shouted, raising both hands high to catch the crowd's attention.

Once everyone was watching, Aiden continued loudly, "The City lord has heard that some people, out of sheer boredom, have been starting fights after eating their fill. This surprised the City lord greatly."

At these words, many in the crowd blushed and lowered their heads in embarrassment. After all, not long ago, they hadn't even had enough to eat, and now, after finally being well-fed, they were getting into trouble that had drawn the City lord's attention.

"City lord understands everyone's struggles," Aiden continued, "It's normal to have disagreements and disputes. Sometimes, no one can convince the other with words, and you might want to settle things with fists—that's fine too."

His words left the crowd stunned, staring at him in disbelief. Could this really be something the City lord had said? They found it hard to believe.

"If anyone wants to fight, they can come up here on the ring. All it costs is one steel coin, and you can fight for five minutes."

Aiden raised his arm, waving to the crowd, and added, "But you must wear these boxing gloves to be allowed to fight. If you want to let off some steam, come on up!"

After finishing, Aiden gestured to Chris, and the two of them immediately started sparring. Left hooks, right hooks, blocking punches—both of them engaged in a fierce-looking boxing match, putting on a good show.

"Hit him! Oh, come on, throw the right punch! How could you be so slow?"

"Use your foot! Kick him already! Ugh, so useless, I could knock him out in seconds."

On the ring, Aiden and Chris couldn't help but twitch at the corners of their eyes. Now they understood why the City lord had given *them* the task of putting on this demonstration—they were starting to feel the urge to get off the ring and teach those loudmouths a lesson themselves.

"Ahem…"

Aiden cleared his throat and stepped back from Chris, then raised his voice, "What we just demonstrated was the proper technique for boxing. Remember, you absolutely cannot hit the groin, the back of the head, or the eyes!"

Lucas had gone over the boxing rules the previous day, so today Aiden was simply reiterating them. He would also serve as the temporary referee for the matches.

"Alright, is there anyone who wants to give it a try?" Aiden announced, removing his gloves. "The first person to volunteer can go for free!"

"I'll do it!"

"Me too, I want to be first!"

Unfortunately, some people were a bit too eager and tried to climb into the ring all at once. Aiden quickly ushered the excess participants off, leaving only two contenders on the platform.

"Here, put this in your mouth," Aiden said, pulling two soft wooden mouthguards from a nearby barrel and demonstrating how to hold them properly.

Once the two fighters put on their gloves and placed the mouthguards in their mouths, they exchanged nervous glances and began to tense up.

"Raise your arms and keep them in front of you!" Aiden instructed the two fighters.

As they followed his command, both were still incredibly tense, lacking the enthusiasm they had shown while shouting from the sidelines. They were being overly cautious, carefully watching each other.

"Ah!"

Suddenly, one of them shouted and charged at the other, throwing punches wildly in a style reminiscent of a clumsy turtle.

"Ah!"

The second fighter also yelled as he rushed in, mirroring the first's awkward approach. The two of them swung their fists haphazardly, causing Aiden and Chris to momentarily freeze in surprise.

"Good! That's it! Keep hitting him—hit him hard!"

"Hey, hey! Punch faster! Are you a woman? Where's your strength?"

The crowd erupted in cheers, many eager participants pulling out their steel coins, ready to experience the thrill of hitting something themselves.

"Alright, that's enough!"

As the five minutes were up, Aiden stopped the awkward duel, looking at the two fighters who were panting heavily, their faces bruised and battered. He couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.

At that moment, Aiden felt proud of Lucas's planning. Fortunately, the fighters had been wearing soft boxing gloves, so their superficial injuries would heal in just a couple of days. Plus, they had burned off a lot of energy and frustration, which meant they would likely be well-behaved for the next few days.

"Who else wants to give it a try?" Aiden shouted, raising the boxing gloves.

This time, there was no need for shouting; two new participants quickly climbed onto the ring, handing over a steel coin. They swiftly donned the mouthguards and gloves, immediately reverting to their awkward punching style.

The atmosphere on the ring was lively, and those on the sidelines were also eager to settle their own scores, pairing off for matches. People with grievances or minor conflicts were lining up for boxing bouts.

"Hey, Big Head! It was clearly you who farted yesterday, and you had the nerve to accuse me of it! If I don't beat you up today, I won't be able to swallow my anger!"

"Ha! You think I'm scared of you? Just wait until I get up there—I'll make you cry!"

Such exchanges were common; where there were people, there were bound to be frictions. Having an outlet for their frustrations was a good thing; otherwise, prolonged pent-up emotions could lead some to do foolish things in a fit of rage.

With three boxing rings in operation, people were constantly jumping in to spar. Even strangers were having a great time, and even if they took a punch to the face, they exited the ring smiling, feeling a sense of relief from having let off some steam.

Aiden and Chris both understood that this was just the first step in familiarizing the common people of Sedona City with boxing. In a few days, there would be a formal competition, and the rewards for participating had both of them feeling quite tempted.

If it weren't for Lucas's rule prohibiting people from the City Lord's residence from participating, they probably would have signed up already.

For the next few days, their task was to gradually teach the principles and precautions of boxing, preparing for the upcoming competition. They wanted to ensure that when the formal matches started, participants wouldn't just jump in throwing wild punches—now that would be quite the spectacle!

Moreover, Lucas had decided to make the boxing matches a recurring event, planning to hold them once every quarter. This could potentially turn into a popular attraction for Sedona City.

As for ice hockey, they were still in the process of preparing the venue. After all, creating a suitable space for playing hockey wasn't an easy task.
