Chapter 25: The Oasis Within Sight
David Yuseff. The Prized Prince of the House of Yuseff. He was an incredibly well-beloved man. An esteemed heir to the throne who was said to be a prodigy in all aspects.
He acquired Magick at the age of 7 and managed to begin his rule over his kingdom starting from the age of 10 while he was in school.
Of course, his parents watched over and cultivated him for the next 12 years of his life until he was properly crowned at 22.
He could have been coronated much earlier, but he was a stickler for numbers and patterns and decided when he would properly be a prince.
Nasiah knew all of this because his mother talked to him about her husband when he asked her. It was relevant, after all, to know the consort of his mother.
He looked at Jossel with wonder in his eyes. Sadly, the knight couldn't see it, but he averted his eyes from the boy since, for some reason, he started to sparkle.
"So you're his Knight?"
Jossel gave him a nod. "That I am, one of many that have sworn loyalty to his highness. I did so because I've seen his greatness and followed his side ever since I was young."
It was true; even as a child and young teen, he remembered David was quite popular with everyone, no matter the age. He was seen as a striking young man by all.
Nasiah continued to question, now growing even more curious. "Did he send you here? Is he coming here?"
The knight gave a faint laugh. Was that what he was looking for? Information on if he was heading here or not? He would not slip up so easily.
"I would not know if he himself is coming here, but he did send me here to conquer these lands in his Name."
He would not reveal his goal of retrieving Myrym nor anything else that would reveal what they could be planning.
Nasiah, however, nodded along. He understood the loyalty this knight had to his prince. It was not something so easily swayed and he knew not to prod further even if he was hiding something.
"Wow, that's so cool! You're a wonderful knight, then. Even now, you sing praises of your prince. I hope soon that my knights are the same way."
Jossel finally needed to understand what this boy meant by that. "If you're not an actual king, are you perhaps an heir?"
Nasiah thought about it. Technically speaking, he was an heir to the throne. "Yes, I am! The greatest heir of them all! I'm the child of the stars themselves, and they shall lead me to the Throne of the World!"
He stood up, completely sparkling now, as Jossel had to turn away. Those were such strange yet heretical words.
To be one chosen by the stars means you were destined to do great actions. However, the Throne was reserved only for the Aetree Speakers; to say otherwise would be folly.
"You are an ambitious man, yet you have clearly lost your ways."
He scoffs in the air. "So this is what the separatists have been teaching others. That they can have such foolish dreams. You do not hold anything in your Name to rise to that height."
Jossel did not bother to stand. He placed his gaze on the wall on his side. "You are a good warrior and a profound Arcane User. You have your gifts elsewhere on this matter. Only a chosen few can ever rise to such places as you seek."
Nasiah just began to laugh, causing Jossel to turn his head to face the boy finally. "Is something funny?"
"Well, yeah. Because I am one of the chosen few that shall reach that height! And I shall be even above that. For it is my goal and my duty to be the king. No one else's."
There was a force behind those words, nothing supernatural, it was just such conviction and desire with no hesitation, with no insincerity.
Jossel could only shake his head in disbelief. A delusional child, a true threat to the empire, bested him.
Yet, there was this strange, unshakable feeling he had. The fact that he said it with such charisma was unsettling, to say the least.
There truly was something more than meets the eye of this boy.
Nasiah placed a hand on his chest. "That's why I'm here. Because a king shall see to his subjects always, no matter what. And he shall ensure that they are kept safe."
He then turns to look at the wall where Jaguar was held. "And that's why I came to you first, so that I can properly talk to General Jaguar too."
The boy then turned to look at Jossel. "He's very aggressive and always likes to attack first. He recognizes you as the superior officer, so you would be able to help me out so I can bring him food and drink."
Jossel stared at the wall as well. "Really? You want to feed General Jaguar?"
He nods. "And I want to talk to him as well. And I need your help to do it."
Why was he asking him for help? He could have used his own power to force Jaguar to eat, yet he came to ask him just to help. So that he won't try to fight back?
It can't be that he was scared; Jossel reckoned that he could have taken them both on at once in the states they were in. This was such a strange feeling. Why go to such lengths for your enemy?
What was this child's game? What was he planning exactly? There were too many variables and ideas that could have been had here, but perhaps he was overthinking it.
Perhaps he really just wanted to feed him.
Jossel saw the innocent smile on Nasiah's face. No, it was not innocent. It was sincere. It was the desire to help, to be kind, and to show others joy. With this, he sighed and spoke again.
"Alright, I'll help you."
