Chapter 23: The City of Rivers Shakes
The next day came in a flash. Nasiah went back to his mother after having a small lesson on how to become a commander with Forcas and Forenus.
She did not seem to have slept; in fact, it appeared that she was constantly on the move at the party, walking with the crowd, cheering with them every so often.
In reality, she used this as cover to slip through the buildings to check on the prisoners, making notes on each and every one of them.
She had to make sure to somehow connect to them and find a way to talk and make a plan with them in some manner that could be feasible.
The guards were busy with the party, but Forenus was smart enough to leave a few behind soldiers to guard those cells and to report any strange ongoings.
Myrym did not want to be suspected of anything that would be considered strange, so she avoided it. If she was going to need anyone, it was her son to help, masking the desire to head into the cells to ask questions.
Nasiah waved his hand to his mother, heading in her direction with a smile. "Mother! Are you enjoying the party?"
Myrym patted her son's head and gave him a nod. "I am, but I think we need to spread this joy to others."
She pointed towards the cells holding the prisoners. "Like the ones you put away. They need this joy as well, don't you think?"
It was a small plan: get him to go to the prisoners and distract all of the guards there.
Nasiah gave a sharp nod. "They do! And as their king, I'll make sure to give it to all of them."
The young boy gave a nod and a thumbs up before running to his mother's maids and butlers to get to food before heading over to the building, holding the prisoners with a massive cart just as tall as him filled with delicacies and refreshments.
It was a rather stout building made of sandstone. It would have been filled with guards beforehand but now only had a handful that were spread out.
They looked in surprise towards Nasiah, who strolled on seemingly without a care in the world. "Good evening! I'm delivering these to the prisoners to help bring them joy!"
The guards raised their eyebrows at that. They were told to report anything suspicious, but Nasiah would often do things like give out food to even the guards, so it was alright to let him in.
"Alright, these will be their final days here after all."
Nasiah walked in with the cart, turning around with an expression of wonder on his face that caused the guards to gaze. "Final days? What will happen to them next?"
The guards shrugged after snapping out. "They're being sent to the capital of Nahar, the heart of the region itself, Zerem, in three days. We can't hold them all here for now, and they're still our prisoners."
Nasiah nodded, understanding that the holdings were already filled up to the brim. "Got it! I will make their last days here great then!"
He ran across the hallways, passing each cell and handing them warm food, a cold drink, and a joy-filled greeting.
He made sure to try and exchange pleasantries with them, even if they said nothing or just yelled at him to stay away. A few even tried to throw food at him, which he caught and neatly placed back into the cell.
To those who would greet him and acknowledge him, he would strike up a small conversation with them about the weather or the time right now, and he would always ask how to make them feel better, of course, anything but to release them.
Many of them were enamored by this mysterious and beautiful child; some even called him a girl, to which he responded that he was a son to his mother, although if she wanted a daughter, he could be one as well. This confused them, but they still humored him.
A few were determined to say that it was a trick, that this child was sent to distract them from their true cause. But this did not matter to Nasiah in the slightest. What mattered was that they at least had time to spend together, for a king needs to understand and aid his subjects, after all.
He tried his best to provide, racing around the prison to help each one until, of course, he stopped by one of two high-class security cells that were underground and away from the rest.
They were guarded by ten different men, all specially trained and armed with their weapons and armor enchanted with strong Alchemy.
The cells themselves were enchanted to help bind together their composition so that it would be harder to break.
On top of this, only very few with proper clearance would ever even be able to get this far. Nasiah was one of them, as he brought the prisoners here.
The prisoners are General Jaguar, the Earth Shaker, and Knight Jossel, the Wind Cleaver.
The former was a giant who had its limbs cut off and was hung in the air. The remaining parts of his body were in another cell, also suspended in the air with chains.
He would be nourished and refreshed with a special pole that would allow others to keep their distance from him since he would sometimes become violent.
Jossel, on the other hand, was much more calm. He would act as Jaguar's superior even in prison and would sit still and be quiet a majority of the time he was in his cell.
Of course, nobody trusted him ever to go outside, so that's where he sat for the few hours he was there.
Both of their equipment was confiscated and placed far from them. This was in an attempt to ensure that no possible breakouts would occur.
Nasiah however, continued on his journey, walking to both cells without a care in the world as he decided to spend some time with them.
