Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Chapter 75: The Web Unravels

Chapter 75: The Web Unravels

The room shuddered with an energy unlike anything Peter had ever felt. The hum of the device was growing louder, reverberating through the air, sending ripples across the walls. For a split second, everything felt as though it were teetering on the edge of collapse, like a fragile thread that was about to snap.

Peter's heart raced as he kept his grip on the device, his focus narrowed solely on Morlun. The dark entity before him was still reeling from the disruption. His glowing eyes were wide with fury, and his body shifted uneasily as if trying to resist the force Peter had unleashed.

"What have you done?" Morlun's voice cracked with rage. "You think you can sever my connection to the web? You are nothing but a fool!"

Peter didn't flinch. His mind was calculating, moving faster than his body could keep up. The device in his hand was designed to disrupt magical energies, to sever unnatural bonds. But Morlun wasn't just some dark sorcerer or magic-wielder. He was tied to something much deeper—something primal, something that transcended the physical world. Could this device really affect him?

Morlun's eyes began to glow brighter, and Peter could feel the temperature in the room spike as the villain drew in energy, as if preparing for a final, devastating strike. "You think I am bound by your toys? You think you can destroy what is eternal?"

Peter's spider-sense flared, warning him of the impending danger. Morlun's power was escalating, his figure warping in and out of focus as if he were becoming part of the very shadows themselves. Peter knew he couldn't stay in one place for too long. He had to keep moving, keep attacking, keep the pressure on.

His webs shot out with precision, attaching themselves to the remnants of the broken pillars around them. With a powerful yank, he swung himself toward Morlun, aiming for the villain's head. He landed with a crash, sending webs flying in every direction. The device continued to hum, its energy flaring brighter with each passing second.

Morlun snarled and swiped at Peter, the force of his strike sending shockwaves through the room. But Peter had anticipated it. He ducked just in time, narrowly avoiding the blow and webbing Morlun's arm to the ground. The villain growled, pulling against the webs with unnatural strength, his muscles bulging with dark power.

"This is futile!" Morlun roared, his voice shaking the very foundation of the chamber. "You cannot stop me. I have been here for eons, and I will endure long after you are dust. You are nothing."

Peter felt a surge of doubt creep into his chest, but he immediately pushed it aside. He wasn't going to give up. Not now. Not when the stakes were this high. Morlun was right about one thing—he wasn't just fighting for his own survival. He was fighting for the entire web of life, for every Spider-Totem who had ever existed.

"You're wrong, Morlun," Peter said through gritted teeth. "I'm not just a 'thread' in your web. I'm the one who's going to stop you."

With a sudden burst of strength, Peter pulled Morlun's arm completely free from the ground, using his webbing to swing behind the villain. Before Morlun could react, Peter pressed the device directly against the back of his neck, activating the full power of the stabilizer.

Morlun's body jerked, a flash of white-hot light erupting from the contact point. The energy from the device collided with the dark force surrounding Morlun, causing a cascade of energy that ripped through the air, warping reality itself.

Morlun screamed in agony as the device's energy tore at the connection he had to the web of life. The air crackled with raw, unbridled power. Peter could see Morlun's form flickering, his body distorting as the essence that made him who he was began to fracture.

"This… cannot be…" Morlun gasped, his voice strained as he fought against the force that was tearing him apart. "You… you cannot end me. I am eternal. I—"

The room exploded in a blinding flash of light.

Peter threw himself to the ground, covering his head with his arms as the blast rocked the chamber. When the light finally faded and the world settled, all that remained was a lingering silence. Peter dared to open his eyes.

The energy in the room was gone. The heavy, oppressive air had lifted, replaced by an eerie calm. And standing in the center of the room, surrounded by the aftermath of the battle, was nothing. No Morlun. No sign of the ancient predator who had hunted him across time.

Peter stood shakily, his breath ragged as he scanned the room. It felt like everything had just… stopped. He reached out, testing the air with his webs, but there was no sign of the dark energy that had been so overwhelming just moments ago.

Was it over? Had he really done it?

Then, just as Peter began to relax, his spider-sense flared once more. But this time, it wasn't a warning of an immediate threat. It was a deep, unsettling feeling, as though something far darker and more dangerous was waiting just beyond the edges of his perception.

"No," Peter whispered. "It's not over."

The silence that followed was deafening. The only sound was the faint hum of the stabilizer still in Peter's hand, now dimmed but not completely gone. Something was wrong. Morlun might have been defeated—at least for now—but Peter could feel the weight of something much larger on the horizon.

Peter's mind raced. He couldn't afford to let his guard down. Morlun had been just one piece of a much larger puzzle. The rift, the ancient evil, the creatures from another world—it was all connected. And as much as Peter hated to admit it, he had a feeling that this was only the beginning.

His phone buzzed in his pocket, snapping him out of his thoughts. With a sigh, he pulled it out. It was a message from MJ.

"Hey, you okay? Just heard about the explosion near the docks. Let me know if you need anything."

Peter stared at the message for a long moment. His friends, his family, his life—he'd been so consumed with the chaos of being Spider-Man that he hadn't stopped to appreciate what he was fighting for. He didn't want them to get caught in the crossfire of whatever was coming next.

With a final glance around the room, Peter turned and shot a web to the ceiling, swinging out of the chamber. He didn't know what lay ahead, but one thing was certain—he wasn't going to face it alone.
