Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Digesting Task Rewards and the New Traits of the Star Skeleton Dragon Martial Spirit
When You Chen saw the form of the Stardust Dragon, he belatedly realized that he had regained his "vision."
Immediately afterward, he noticed his current form—the form of the Star Skeleton Dragon.
However, he could sense not only his state as the Star Skeleton Dragon but also faintly feel his essence as a soul master.
This perception seemed entirely reversed from normal.
Usually, the soul master perceives the state of the martial spirit, but now it was as if the soul master had become the martial spirit, and the soul master was perceived as one typically senses their martial spirit.
It was as if... the martial spirit had become the main body, and the soul master had become the martial spirit.
This peculiar situation blurred the lines between martial spirit and soul master, blurring the boundary of identity.
A human transformed into a dragon, and a dragon transformed into a human...
Even soul beasts that transform into humans would not experience such a wondrous realization.
In this marvelous experience, You Chen's understanding and control over the martial spirit's original power rapidly increased.
At a certain moment, he saw that beautiful white dragon once more.
This time, however, it charged straight toward You Chen, as if to merge with him.
In the instant that he locked eyes with its golden gaze, time seemed to slow to a crawl, almost to the point of stasis... You Chen could even perceive the intent within those vibrant golden eyes...
What seemed like a fleeting dream could have been days or nights, but when You Chen returned to his senses, he found himself detached from that esoteric state, reverting to his soul master-dominated mode.
Then, he naturally realized he was maintaining the martial spirit embodiment state, absorbing the starlight from above with perfect ease.
As if by instinct, he guided and condensed the pure energy drawn from the starlight, and with just a thought, his right leg, which was primarily human with draconic features, transformed into a robust and powerful dragon's leg, complete with a dark cyan horn at the knee!
Over a month ago, when his martial spirit had just evolved, You Chen sensed that the martial spirit's traits or special abilities had changed, but without confirmation, he had simply marked this aspect with a question mark.
Since then, he had certainly conducted research and assessments on this matter.
He was not unfamiliar with the ability to draw in starlight, storing this capability within his martial spirit as a reserve of spirit power, which could also be used to heal himself. He termed this ability "Starlight Charging."
However, it seemed that he had only achieved the most basic development of this ability.
With this latest "Insight into Essence," You Chen gained a deeper understanding of his martial spirit's original power, finally grasping and mastering the essence of his martial spirit's new traits.
Thus, he naturally learned how to transform other parts of his body into dragon form.
Moreover, like the dragon wings, this ability wasn't one of "consumption."
Although this dragon transformation ability doesn't seem to grant specific soul skills for each transformed part like the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon's transformations, it compensates by not having a limitation of adding a new part every 10 levels.
As You Chen uses Starlight Charging to gradually solidify the full body dragon transformation ability, he will be able to achieve a "miniature martial spirit true form" even before reaching Soul Saint!
Furthermore, You Chen's martial spirit is currently only the "Star Skeleton Dragon," not the "Stardust Dragon." Whether additional special abilities will emerge with further evolution remains unknown!
If "Dragonizing Wings" is considered a 2-point ability, then this ability of "autonomous dragon transformation" surely counts as a 3-point ability!
Currently, the highest stated special abilities are at 3 points.
The difference between 2 points and 3 points, and how it's calculated, ties back to the criteria You Chen laid out for special ability scoring.
These criteria don't directly relate to the five dimensions in the six-dimensional chart, and even abilities unrelated to combat can score highly, which is why these are considered "additional points"!
The evaluation dimensions roughly categorize into four: functional and supportive, combat enhancement, targeted abilities, and everything else falls under "other."
1 point (weak performance) denotes special abilities that are nice to have but not essential, or abilities with clear targeting.
2 points (general performance) indicate abilities that significantly enhance combat, good supportive functional abilities, abilities targeting more general attributes, or extremely targeted specific abilities.
Alternatively, a martial spirit with multiple "weak performance" abilities might also be rated at 2 points.
3 points (top performance) are for abilities that drastically enhance combat to an extent similar to improving martial spirit quality, highly functional abilities, or extremely targeted general attributes.
Like the 2-point metric, possessing multiple general performance abilities might also rate at 3 points.
But beyond this, the criteria shift. It's not about 4 points being a step above, categorizing multiple top performances together, and continuing this way to 5 points, 6 points.
4 points (top all-rounder) indicate multiple top performance abilities.
5 points (super performance) denote at least one ability with near-absolute competency in some aspect.
6 points (god-level performance) involve having multiple super performances, or a single super performance that holds substantial advantages over most other super performances.
This classification arises because, in You Chen's perspective, abilities reaching super performance levels are essentially the pinnacle within the Douluo world's ceiling, with top performance abilities, no matter how numerous, often having a dimension-reducing strike effect.
Among similar super performances, there might seem to be differences in strength, but it's less about the abilities and more about the soul masters wielding them.
In other words... there's no such thing as a useless super performance, only soul masters who can't utilize them effectively.
Naturally, different abilities have countering relationships, which is expected.
Why specifically note that "a single super performance with significant advantages over most others is rated as god-level performance"?
The reason is simple: if an ability can counter nearly all other comparable abilities, even if numerically it matches others, it's fair to consider it a superior ability.
While You Chen doesn't know if such an ability exists, he leaves room for it in his scoring system.
Currently, You Chen's special abilities are divided into two categories: Dragon Transformation and Starlight Charging.
Dragon Transformation, or complete Dragon Transformation, counts as top performance, while Starlight Charging is considered general performance, summing up to a 3-point range.
The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon's "enhanced effect dragon transformation" can be seen as a growth skill with phased characteristics.
If a Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon soul master reaches the Title Douluo level, gaining nine soul skills whose strength increases with the soul master's growth, and among them, a continually improving amplification skill... it's deserving of the title of the strongest assault-type beast martial spirit.
The comprehensive strength is undeniable, and You Chen would rate it as 5 points, placing it in the super performance category. However, if someone argues it's not strong enough and is just a special "top all-rounder," You Chen wouldn't disagree.
