Chapter 86: Chapter 86: The Calamity of Deep Blue
In the villa of Deep Blue City, Li Shutong was guiding Xia Youwei and Li Lingzhen in their cultivation.
Both of them were sweating profusely, not daring to slack off in the slightest.
Their strength had been advancing rapidly, already at the peak of the fourth stage, showing signs of breaking through to the fifth stage.
"We're cultivating so fast, could we surpass Ah Zhen?"
"Wouldn't that be great? Then at night, he won't be able to fight back and will have to let us do whatever we want." Li Lingzhen's words made Xia Youwei's eyes light up.
After so much "instruction," Xia Youwei had transformed from an innocent, naive university student into a qualified "veteran."
A mischievous smile appeared on her face, and she couldn't wait to see Han Zhan's surprised expression when he came out of the Bodhi Treasure Tree and found that their cultivation levels had surpassed his.
"When that time comes, I want to be on top!" Xia Youwei clenched her fist, as if this thought gave her a unique motivation.
"What are you two chatting about? No slacking during cultivation." Li Shutong's voice interrupted, and the two immediately fell silent, standing upright and continuing their practice diligently.
At this moment, Li Shutong suddenly sensed something. He looked into the distance as if perceiving something there.
His expression turned extremely grim, and he immediately took out his communicator and dialed a number.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
No one answered.
Li Shutong furrowed his brows tightly and murmured, "A storm is coming."
———
[Qingteng Academy, Deep Blue City]
Today, Chen Guangpu was leading the students on a one-day autumn excursion to the beach.
Behind him was a group of youthful students, chatting and laughing as they followed the group to the beach in Deep Blue City.
"Once the new year is over, we'll be taking the graduation awakening exams."
"Yeah, I wonder what kind of talent I'll awaken and what kind of spirit contract I'll make."
"I must awaken an SSS-level talent and become a great hero like Senior Han Zhan."
"Ha! You? Dream on. Senior Han Zhan is the pride of Qingteng Academy."
"If anyone is the proudest, it must be Principal Chen Guangpu. He gambled everything and led the whole academy to support Senior Han Zhan back then. Now, he's truly basking in glory."
Listening to the chatter behind him, Chen Guangpu, at the front of the group, felt a surge of pride.
Middle-aged, with sparse hair, the few strands he had swayed in the wind, reflecting his inner joy and contentment.
"That brat Han Zhan hasn't come to visit Qingteng Academy or me, his principal, in ages. If he showed up more, it'd help our academy's enrollment efforts."
"How many students will enroll next year because of his reputation? Just thinking about it makes me happy."
Chen Guangpu's thoughts wandered wildly, soon drifting to his late wife who had lost her life on the battlefield. His face showed a relieved smile.
Suddenly, his smile disappeared.
Chen Guangpu looked warily toward the sea. On the once-glimmering surface, something strange appeared.
It was a horn.
The next second, the full form of the horn revealed itself to Chen Guangpu.
A menacing insectoid creature, much larger than a small villa, appeared on the surface of the sea.
It walked as though on flat ground, each step causing tremors, as it advanced toward the coastline.
"All Qingteng Academy students, retreat into Deep Blue City!" Chen Guangpu, experienced and familiar with dealing with insectoids, quickly gave the command.
Although his heart wasn't flustered, his expression was grave as he organized the students to retreat in an orderly manner.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, countless horns began emerging from the water one after another, densely packed.
One, two, three, countless!
The sea was filled with insectoids, turning the water pitch black and making the scene terrifying to behold.
Chen Guangpu's heart sank.
"Insectoid invasion," was the first thought that crossed his mind.
'How did they cross the sea? It's impossible!'
Before Chen Guangpu could figure it out, the sea erupted with towering waves, crashing toward the coastline.
The terrified students of Qingteng Academy were on the verge of being swept away by the massive waves.
Suddenly, a pale green translucent barrier appeared in front of them, enveloping everyone and blocking the impact of the waves.
"Hmph," Chen Guangpu grunted, pressing his lips tightly to keep blood from spilling out.
Though old, he was still a Spirit Contractor. "What are you all standing around for? Run! The fastest among you, contact the City Guardians and report the situation."
"Principal Chen, what about you?"
"I can still hold on. Hurry and go, before they all make it ashore."
While speaking, Chen Guangpu expanded the barrier to its maximum, fending off wave after wave of attacks.
Despite his unassuming demeanor, his strength, suddenly revealed, was impressive—a fifth-stage cultivator.
"This won't do; their focus is still on these kids. I must draw them away. Though they're numerous, their highest power is only third stage—not unbeatable. I just need to hold them off until reinforcements arrive."
Resolute, Chen Guangpu sighed. "No choice, I'll have to trouble you once more, my dear."
Green light radiated from his hands, growing denser. With a forceful strike to his head, a small clover sprouted from atop it.
For a fleeting moment, the sea fell silent.
Then, Chen Guangpu sprinted across the waves, heading deeper into the ocean.
The insectoids, enraged, fixated on him, abandoning their pursuit of the students.
"Principal Chen, you're amazing!" shouted students as they watched.
But in the next instant, a monstrous maw emerged from the depths, swallowing Chen Guangpu whole.
And in the sky above, countless blades rained down, slaughtering the fleeing students.
Blood stained the sand in river of blood.
