Soul Reforged: The Rise of Sword God Chen Xin

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Shattered Bonds

The first hammer strike echoed like thunder, reverberating through the cavernous forge. Sparks flew as Chen Xin brought steel to steel, the shards of Gu Jian reacting with a brilliance that lit the chamber in silver flame. It was a beginning—but also a reckoning.

With every swing of the hammer, memories surfaced.

He remembered the moment Gu Jian had shattered—beneath the weight of failure, in the battle that should have been his triumph. He remembered standing amid the rubble of comrades lost, honor bruised, spirit bent. The blade had broken not only under force, but under doubt.

Now, as molten spirit alloy flowed across the anvil, the fractures of his past bled into each motion. His strikes weren't just for reforging metal—they were an exorcism of guilt.

Rongrong remained by his side, her hand occasionally casting protective seals as runes pulsed faintly over the fragments. But her presence wasn't just supportive; it was grounding. She knew what Chen Xin didn't say aloud.

"Your bond with the blade was forged in youth," she said quietly. "But time has changed both of you. What if the spirit of the sword no longer answers?"

Chen Xin paused. That fear had gnawed at him for days.

"Then I will meet it as I am now," he answered, sweat beading on his brow. "If I must begin again, I will."

The silence that followed was heavy. It was Mira who broke it, her voice low and almost hesitant.

"The blade may accept you. But what of the Assembly? What of those you left behind—who see your path as betrayal?"

That question lingered longer than the smoke from the forge.

Chen Xin didn't respond. Not immediately. He let the hammer speak, each strike resonating deeper. Then, in a moment of stillness, he looked up—his eyes clear.

"Let them see," he said. "I no longer walk the path for their approval."

Outside the chamber, the storm clouds gathered. Unseen forces stirred.

Within, Gu Jian began to hum—softly, but unmistakably. The bond was not shattered. Only dormant.

And now, it was beginning to awaken.
