Soul Reforged: The Rise of Sword God Chen Xin

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Whisper of the First Sword

As the fires of the soul-forge dimmed behind him, Chen Xin descended the hill, stepping into a vast plateau ringed by ghostly trees. Each branch shimmered with particles of sword energy — old, silent, dormant.

In the center stood a single figure.

A man, old beyond reckoning, dressed in tattered robes. His beard flowed like silver threads, his back slightly hunched. In his lap lay a single wooden scabbard.

He looked up slowly as Chen Xin approached, and the look in his eyes was not of surprise — but recognition.

"You came further than I expected."

Chen Xin bowed respectfully. "You were waiting for someone."

The old man chuckled, low and dry. "Not someone. Anyone. But none lasted long enough."

He tapped the scabbard lightly.

"This held my first sword. I forged it when I still believed perfection was real."

There was no weapon inside. Only the outline of what had once been.

"But perfection betrayed me. My sword failed me… or I failed it."

He looked up, eyes glazed with the weight of millennia.

"I spent my entire life chasing a single technique. A slash so fast it could not be seen. So quiet it made no sound. So perfect that not even the gods could guard against it."

Chen Xin stepped closer, breath held.

"And you never completed it."

The man's smile was broken. "No. Because it required something I never had. Regret."

Silence stretched between them.

Then the old swordsman extended the empty scabbard. "But maybe you do."

When Chen Xin grasped it, his mind flooded.

Memories that weren't his. Dozens of failed attempts. Broken bones. Shattered friends. Screams of loss. Moments of hesitation.

He saw the technique—not complete, but almost.

He understood then.

This wasn't a gift of power.

It was a burden.

A path left incomplete, waiting for someone with pain deep enough to finish it.

In the silence of the plateau, the incomplete move etched itself into his soul:

Shadowless Horizon — the unseen slash.

Not yet usable.

But his now to finish.
