Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Black Spirit Soul, Golden-Plumed Crimson Luan!
Leng Yaozhu and Jing Shaoyu stood motionless as the source of the oppressive aura appeared before them.
It was an enormous spherical creature, over five meters in diameter, with ten thick, flexible tentacles writhing around its form. What made it truly grotesque was its appearance—it was a massive, malevolent eye. The entire sphere was essentially one monstrous eyeball, with a dark purple iris filled with nightmarish, hypnotic images. The twisting tentacles only added to its sinister demeanor.
"Evil-Eyed Tyrant!" Jing Shaoyu exclaimed in shock. "What's going on? How could an Evil-Eyed Tyrant exist in the Spirit Ascension Platform modeled after the Star Dou Forest?"
"This is the guardian of the Advanced Spirit Ascension Platform," Leng Yaozhu explained calmly. "Its essence is derived from the skull of a hundred-thousand-year Evil-Eyed Tyrant."
"Ah, I see…" Jing Shaoyu muttered, his expression a mix of understanding and exasperation. The Spirit Pagoda's methods were undeniably shameless. Despite knowing the Evil-Eyed Tyrant clan was a sworn enemy of the soul beasts in the Star Dou Forest, they still made one a guardian of the platform. If Di Tian and the others knew, they'd probably be enraged enough to cough up blood!
"Although the guardian isn't supposed to be killed, since it's presenting itself to us, it can't complain if it meets its end," Leng Yaozhu said with a light chuckle as she eyed the creature.
The Evil-Eyed Tyrant seemed to sense the mocking tone in her voice. Its massive eye flashed with anger, and a dark purple beam of energy shot straight toward Leng Yaozhu.
Leng Yaozhu raised her hand lightly, and a golden-red flame emerged, taking the form of a lifelike phoenix. The fiery bird collided with the purple beam and effortlessly devoured it before charging toward the Evil-Eyed Tyrant.
The creature panicked and quickly crossed its ten tentacles before its eye, forming an intricate sigil. A black barrier of spiritual energy materialized to block the phoenix. The fiery bird shattered upon impact, dissolving into countless embers. However, cracks began spreading across the barrier, and it shattered as well. The glittering fragments pierced the Evil-Eyed Tyrant's massive eye, causing it to weep blood.
Leng Yaozhu wasted no time. She leapt into the air, her hands forming a bow and arrow motion. A blazing arrow of golden-red fire appeared in her grasp and, with unerring precision, pierced straight through the Evil-Eyed Tyrant's pupil.
The massive eyeball fell lifelessly to the ground, its body motionless. For the Evil-Eyed Tyrant, its eye was as vital as the brain for other soul beasts.
Landing gracefully beside Jing Shaoyu, Leng Yaozhu patted his shoulder and said, "Go ahead. The energy from this hundred-thousand-year Evil-Eyed Tyrant is more than enough to evolve your spirit soul into a black spirit soul."
"Understood, Teacher!" Jing Shaoyu exclaimed, his excitement clear. Without hesitation, he led Red Ruby to the corpse of the Evil-Eyed Tyrant. Despite knowing the blood-red spirit ring above the corpse was an illusion, he couldn't help feeling exhilarated.
Sitting cross-legged, he formed a series of hand seals, drawing the red spirit ring toward him. Red Ruby flapped its wings excitedly, circling the spirit ring a few times before diving into it.
In an instant, both the spirit ring and Red Ruby vanished. Three deep purple spirit rings appeared behind Jing Shaoyu, pulsating rhythmically. Within the rings, a crimson bird seemed to take shape, flitting and soaring gracefully.
Jing Shaoyu, eyes closed and breathing steady, appeared to be in a deep sleep.
Leng Yaozhu glanced at him, a faint smile of exasperation on her face. "This boy really has a big heart," she thought. "He's just sleeping through the process! Well, if he can wake up to a ten-thousand-year spirit soul, that's not a bad deal."
While Jing Shaoyu slept, significant changes were taking place within him. His martial soul resonated, his soul power flowed, and his mental strength surged. Red Ruby had transformed into a crimson cocoon, radiating flickers of red light as it underwent evolution. The purple spirit rings behind him began to darken, shifting irreversibly toward black.
---
About three hours later, Jing Shaoyu slowly opened his eyes. He instinctively reached out to sense Red Ruby but found nothing. A pang of panic crossed his face.
"Don't worry," Leng Yaozhu said gently. "Your spirit soul is still evolving."
Her reassuring smile immediately calmed him. "Teacher, how long will the evolution take?" Jing Shaoyu asked.
"It's hard to say," Leng Yaozhu replied, shaking her head. "When my first spirit soul evolved from purple to black, it took two hours. But this process varies for everyone. Your martial soul is of a higher quality than your spirit soul, which means it will take time for the spirit soul to restructure and elevate its bloodline. Be patient."
"Alright," Jing Shaoyu sighed. "I didn't expect having a high-quality martial soul would have its downsides."
"Brat!" Leng Yaozhu rolled her eyes. "You're complaining about something most people would kill for."
An hour later, the evolution finally neared its conclusion.
Behind Jing Shaoyu, the three spirit rings reappeared, now emitting a profound black glow. The sight carried an air of solemnity and majesty.
"Ten-thousand-year spirit rings!" Jing Shaoyu beamed with pride. In the current age, where soul beasts were nearly extinct and spirit souls reigned supreme, black spirit rings symbolized unparalleled strength and status.
"Chirp—!"
A sharp, resounding cry echoed as a majestic bird emerged from one of the black spirit rings. Its body was a brilliant crimson with three golden plumes on its tail. The bird spread its crimson wings, patterned with golden streaks, to a span of five meters. Its sharp talons were a surprising pink hue, exuding a strange mix of power and delicacy.
Atop its head was a green-gold crest feather, and its piercing eyes radiated vitality and a proud spirit.
The bird was none other than Red Ruby, now evolved into a black spirit soul. Its transformation had taken it beyond the lineage of the Scarlet Jade Spirit Bird, forming a new bloodline—the Golden-Plumed Crimson Luan.
"Impressive," Leng Yaozhu remarked with admiration. "It's even refined a trace of phoenix bloodline. This little one truly has the potential to evolve into a genuine phoenix."
"Phoenix bloodline?" Jing Shaoyu's curiosity was piqued. "Teacher, is a trace of phoenix bloodline a lot? Does your Blazing Flame Eagle Emperor have phoenix bloodline too?"
"The amount isn't what matters," Leng Yaozhu explained. "What's important is having it at all. Everything starts from nothing. Once you achieve that leap from zero to one, the rest is possible."
"I see," Jing Shaoyu nodded thoughtfully.
"As for my Blazing Flame Eagle Emperor," Leng Yaozhu added, "it has about ninety percent phoenix bloodline."
"Ninety percent?!" Jing Shaoyu exclaimed. "Doesn't that make it almost indistinguishable from a phoenix? Does it need to reach the level of a Beast King to be considered a true phoenix?"
"Precisely," Leng Yaozhu confirmed. "Without the foundation
of a Beast King's power, how can it claim the title of the King of Birds?"
