Son of darkness

Dmitry, seeing his attribute, was in shock.

"A supreme attribute… Only ten people in the world have one. Supreme attributes… That means… David, tell me, do you have a title?"

"Yes."

"What is your title?"

"Lord of Darkness."

"Hmph. Titles and attributes are always connected," Dmitry muttered. "If that's the case, David's power must be… control over darkness."

"You're free to go. I've checked everything. Soon the student power rankings will be posted."

"Alright," David replied calmly and left the room, heading back to his quarters. Entering his room, he looked around.

"So this is my room… Well, it's definitely better than the slums." He sighed. "In a month, on the night of the full moon, we'll be sent into the Trial of Fate. I need to prepare."

David thought for a while about what he might lack for survival in the wild. Then he remembered something: while walking around the academy, he saw a sign.

"Survival Course."

Recalling this, he quickly headed there. When he arrived, he knocked on the door. Hearing a voice say "Come in," David stepped inside.

Opening the door, he saw a tall man in his thirties with chestnut hair.

Upon seeing David, the man greeted him.

"Hello. My name is Bean. You can call me Mr. Bean. I teach the survival course."

"I'm David."

"Alright, have a seat."

"Let me tell you about the world of Fate. It's divided into three stages: the Prologue, the Trial of Fate, and finally, the Demon World."

"There are a hundred levels in the Trial of Fate. Only after clearing them can one enter the Demon World."

"Hah, but unfortunately, we know almost nothing about the Demon World. Our strongest man is only on the 99th level."

"Wait, if he's on level 99, there's just one left. Why can't he finish it?"

"Hmph. Think of it this way: the final level is as hard as completing all the previous ninety-nine levels together. Now do you see how insane that is?"

Hearing that, David was surprised.

"I see," he said quietly.

"Alright then. Let me teach you the art of survival. First off, in the world of Fate, everything is different."

"You won't be able to navigate by stars there. Everything is much more complicated."

Mr. Bean then began teaching David how to orient himself in the world of Fate.

Later, David left the classroom and headed to the cafeteria. Grabbing some food, he sat down beside a girl with a bandage over her eyes and quietly began eating.

Suddenly, a screen lit up, showing the rankings of the academy's strongest students. David glanced at it and noticed the girl's name.

"So her name is Emma... But why is she sitting next to me?"

Then, the attributes of the students appeared on the screen. Everyone stared, shocked. Two students had titles — one was "Lord of Darkness", and the other "Child of the Stars".

From afar, Emma looked at David and thought to herself,

"Lord of Darkness… That means he possesses a supreme attribute too? I never expected anyone else to have power like mine."

Everyone in the cafeteria continued watching Emma and David. It was the first time in history that two people with supreme attributes and titles had appeared at the same time.

Some teachers took notice as well. Even Vincent, one of the higher-ranked instructors, watched with both surprise and anticipation. If they survived the Trial, he planned to take both of them to the Southeastern Division.

As David finished eating and got up to leave, a few students tried to stop him and ask what he had gone through to gain such power.

Fed up with the attention, David shoved them aside and walked out.
