So I Became a Witch and Started Doing Daily Quests

Chapter 22

Chapter 22: Partial Transfiguration

Janna gently moved her hands, and as she exited the state of mental suggestion, the black feathers that had previously appeared on the backs of her hands vanished instantly.

“Janna, please stand up and share your insights on transfiguration with everyone.”

Upon hearing her name called, Janna felt quite surprised internally at her success on the first attempt.

However, seeing Professor Lilith Mage’s hopeful gaze and the attentive eyes of the surrounding apprentices, Janna pondered for a moment before smiling and addressing everyone:

“While casting the spell, I kept imagining that I had already grown wings and could fly freely... Perhaps it was this intense desire that allowed me to harness the 'power of the mind' that Professor Mage mentioned.”

“Excellent response! Please take your seat, Janna.”

“Thank you, Professor.”

Building upon Janna’s words, Professor Lilith Mage, now in a noticeably better mood than at the start of the class, continued to elaborate on the so-called “power of the mind” based on the premise of psychological suggestion.

“Janna, what exactly is the power of the mind? I was also suggesting to myself that I was a rook just now, but nothing happened.”

Vivian gently nudged Janna with her elbow, her cute round face filled with helplessness.

“Perhaps you mispronounced the incantation. Using the spell to activate the power of mysticism before self-suggestion is also a crucial step.”

“Really? I thought my incantation was quite accurate...”

As the first transfiguration class gradually drew to a close, by the end of the session, no one else in the classroom, apart from Janna, had successfully made feathers grow on the backs of their hands.

“That’s all for today’s class. See you next week.”

“Goodbye, Professor Mage.”

...

“Miss Janna, could you please listen to my mysticism incantation to see if I pronounced it correctly?”

“May I ask you, what exactly is the 'power of the mind'?”

“Miss Janna, does mental suggestion require immersing oneself in the emotions of a rook? I mean... do I need to act like a rook?”

No sooner had Professor Lilith Mage left the classroom than Janna, regarded by everyone as a “transfiguration genius,” was surrounded by several familiar apprentices, all eagerly seeking her guidance on various basic transfiguration questions.

“So, my personal suggestion is to relax your mind and deepen your self-suggestion in a relatively quiet environment...”

Janna’s calm yet earnest responses prompted the apprentices around her to nod thoughtfully and sincerely express their gratitude to her.

“Being your friend must be exhausting. If I were surrounded by so many people, I’d be annoyed to death.”

Feeling the admiring and grateful gazes directed at Janna, Vivian, who had been listlessly accompanying her, also felt a bit overwhelmed.

“You’ll get used to it.”

Listening to Janna’s light response beneath her gentle smile, Vivian could only shrug.

“This kind of attention isn’t something one can easily get used to... Let’s go quickly; it’s almost dark.”

“Mm, let’s go together.”

...

After leaving the classroom, Vivian, who usually disliked eating dinner in the cafeteria, unusually accompanied Janna for a quick meal before parting ways at the dormitory entrance.

Upon returning to her dormitory, Janna immediately opened her skill panel.

[Wizard Skills: Contract Summoning (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Spirit Summoning (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Soul Lash (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Vine Bind (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Acid Spray (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Soul Chain (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Siren Chanting (Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade), Basic Transfiguration (Partial Transfiguration: Level 1 - Upgrade Available)]

“System, upgrade Basic Transfiguration to the current level cap.”

Shua—

Following Janna’s command, 1800 skill experience points were deducted and added to Basic Transfiguration.

As the skill entry flickered continuously, Basic Transfiguration on the skill panel changed to [Basic Transfiguration (Partial Transfiguration: Level 19 - Temporarily Unavailable for Upgrade)].

Boom—

As with previous upgrades, the moment Janna completed the skill upgrade, various knowledge and details about Basic Transfiguration appeared in her mind out of nowhere.

It felt as if she had practiced it thousands of times; at this moment, Janna had a natural familiarity with the use of transfiguration.

“I command you by my will—Summon, Celestial Finch.”

“Master, you called me again.”

Looking at the familiar dormitory surroundings, the shadow of being used as a practice dummy last time still lingered in Aph’s heart, the Celestial Finch, and had not dissipated.

“Don’t worry, this time I called you purely to observe you more closely and seek inspiration for transfiguration.”

“So, Master wants me to be a model? No problem!”

Hearing that she wouldn’t be used for sparring, Aph finally relaxed.

She then flapped her wings and found a relatively clean spot on the experimental table to perch.

“Very good, just stand there and try not to move.”

“Understood, Master.”

Like a statue, Aph strictly followed Janna’s every command. So much so that Janna felt a bit guilty.

“Aph, you can relax a bit; it’s okay even if you move.”

“It’s fine, Master. Serving you is Aph’s honor.”

Seeing Aph’s innocent and adorable demeanor, Janna’s originally serious expression softened into a smile.

It was indeed peculiar.

Despite being a Spirit Realm creature bound to Janna through an equal contract, Aph exhibited extraordinary loyalty towards her.

Even compared to the Thornflower Sprite bound by a forced contract, Aph was no less devoted.

“Rooks have relatively mean personalities. Instead of observing them, it’s better to carefully study the form and structure of the Celestial Finch.”

Having made up her mind, Janna covered her eyes with spiritual power, activating her spiritual vision to observe the wing structure of the Celestial Finch.

“Like the rook, the Celestial Finch has lightweight skeletal wings, and its body is streamlined, resulting in lower air resistance and faster flight speed.”

While pondering, Janna began reciting the mysticism incantation.

As she quickly entered a state of mental suggestion, the magical fluctuations in her arms grew increasingly rapid.

“Ever-changing—”

White feathers covered her arms, wings spread out, and in an instant, Janna’s arms transformed into two snow-white wings.

A rich, sacred aura danced between each feather.

“So this is Level 19 Partial Transfiguration...”

Magic power rapidly drained, and as a First Tier Wizard Apprentice, Janna soon exited the partial transfiguration state.

“This isn’t right. Normally, transfiguration is a type of witchcraft that consumes very little magic power. So why is my magic power depleting so quickly...”
