Chapter 21: Chapter 21: The Takeover
---
The silence in the boardroom was suffocating.
For a long moment, no one moved. No one dared. Every pair of eyes was locked on the ten-year-old seated at the head of the long obsidian conference table, flanked not by adults, but by evidence—digital projections of every crime, every shady transaction, and every black tie betrayal.
The boy who should have been grieving.
The boy who should have been too young.
The boy who now held all the power.
Asher Raven sat back, his fingers lightly drumming the polished surface. The air conditioning hummed faintly overhead, like the breath of a watchful predator.
"You have five minutes," he said, "to make a decision. Either walk away, or be dragged into the light."
Across the table, the oldest shareholder—a man in his seventies named Gerald Marsten—swallowed hard. He had once been a friend to Asher's grandfather. "Asher... this is a lot for you to handle. You don't need to fight us. We can help guide you."
Asher's eyes sharpened. "Help? Like how you helped hide the money funnelling through Raven Tech's R\&D department? Or how you conveniently forgot to declare a 12% stake in competitor startups?"
The screen behind him flashed again, data cascading like a digital storm.
"This company is mine now," Asher said. "It belongs to the Raven legacy—and to Cain and Ellen. I won't let any of you leech off it any longer."
The lawyers whispered more urgently now. Someone stood to leave. Another followed. It was happening—just as he'd planned.
But he wasn't finished.
Asher stood, his small frame casting a surprisingly long shadow beneath the conference lights.
"Effective immediately, all contracts are to be re-evaluated. Departments engaging in dual-accounting or product duplication will be audited. Every employee will be vetted—personally, if I have to."
He paused, then added, "And for the record, I'm not just watching. I'm building."
A final press of his tablet sent the room into stunned silence once more.
> [System Notice: Raven Enterprise Security Protocol Engaged]
> – Real-time monitoring activated
> – Internal AI Firewall Deployment Complete
> – Encryption Architecture Phase I live
Behind him, the conference room's central screen lit up with the emblem of the Raven family crest, stylised in clean, sharp vectors.
Then Asher walked out. Calm. Unshaken. The boy with the system. The heir with a plan.
---
Back in his private penthouse office, Asher unbuttoned the cuffs of his black shirt and stared out at the evening skyline. The sun dipped behind the steel horizon, golden light filtering through tall glass.
"System," he murmured.
> [Awaiting commands.]

He turned as Cain's soft cry echoed from the nursery room. Asher was already walking before the second cry came.
Cain was awake. Ellen too, blinking up with her usual calm.
"You heard me on the news, didn't you?" Asher smiled softly, kneeling by their crib. "Don't worry. Big brother's got this."
He sat down in the armchair beside them, pulling his datapad close. Work never really ended. But tonight, for just a while, he read his twin siblings a story.
About a young prince who took on an empire. Alone.
And won.
