Chapter 43: Chapter -43 Ye Chen Got Caught.
Chapter -43.
After finalizing plans with students from various academies to launch the dog-hunting initiative the next day, Ye Chen finally found a moment to relax.
As he returned to the villa courtyard, Flender, Zhao Wujie, and the others seemed to have been waiting for him. Dai Mubai was the first to approach, his expression quite serious.
"Ye Chen, why not come back to the Star Luo Empire with me? At least there you'd be safer."
"Am I in danger?" Ye Chen chuckled, giving Dai Mubai a friendly pat on the shoulder. He smiled reassuringly at everyone, saying, "Don't worry, it's just a prince; killing him is just that—killing him. What trouble can a dead person cause?"
"That's true, but remember, he's the son of the Snow Night Emperor. Offing Xu Bing will likely lead to some backlash."
Zhu Zhuqing moved closer to Ye Chen, wrapping her arms around his, worry etched on her face. She felt powerless, like an ordinary woman without any strength or connections, only able to watch as the person she cared for faced potential danger.
Suddenly, a large hand rested on her head, and Ye Chen's gentle voice reached her ears: "Don't worry, just trust me, okay?"
"Mm."
She nodded obediently, clinging tightly to Ye Chen's arm, her emotions surging as she gazed up at the towering peaks surrounding them.
Though Ye Chen reassured everyone, the atmosphere in the villa remained tense, and the feeling of danger lingered.
"Ye Chen, there's something I need to tell you."
Hu Liena pulled him aside into a room on the west side and continued, "Master sent a letter saying that recently, two Great Douluos came to the Wuhun Temple Academy. They're both at least level 95 and have captured some students to ask about someone. However, those who were freed lost their memories. Master wants me to find out if this is related to you."
"If it's unrelated, Master will send a Great Douluo to investigate further to keep the Wuhun Temple's secrets safe. If it is connected to you, Master won't pursue the investigation."
Ye Chen stroked his chin and nodded, "It must just be my Master and the others. They're probably just concerned about my safety, which is why they went to the Wuhun Temple."
"Okay, I'll respond as you suggested."
Hu Liena pulled out a piece of paper and a pen to write, but Ye Chen interrupted, "Are those two Great Douluos okay? We have many experts at the Wuhun Temple; nothing unexpected happened, did it?"
"There shouldn't be any major issues; the Elder Hall sent four Great Douluos to take care of them for a bit."
"Hiss!"
Ye Chen couldn't help but gasp. Four Great Douluos battling at once wasn't considered a big deal?
Glancing out the window, he thought about how Master Gu and Senior Jian were doing, hoping they were alright.
The next morning marked the official start of the 'Dog Hunting Plan.'
From his experiences with the big yellow dog, Ye Chen knew that fellow was tricky. Since it had taken an interest in him and once caused a ruckus at the Royal Academy, it clearly had him in its sights.
One had to admit, the big yellow dog was quite clever—it even manipulated others into doing its dirty work. Ye Chen couldn't help but wonder what was going on in its head.
That early morning, everyone tormented by the big yellow dog gathered in the square outside Ye Chen's villa.
Looking at the crowd, Ye Chen exclaimed: Wow, today the turn-out is over twice as large as yesterday; there are almost 300 people here!
"What's our slogan?"
Ye Chen raised his arm and shouted, igniting the crowd's enthusiasm in the square.
"Our slogan is: Beastly big yellow dog, better to kill wrongly than to let go, see the yellow fur, blow the iron whistle loudly!"
"Beastly big yellow dog, better to kill wrongly than to let go, see the yellow fur, blow the iron whistle loudly!"
"Beastly big yellow dog, better to kill wrongly than to let go, see the yellow fur, blow the iron whistle loudly!"
Seeing the energetic crowd, Ye Chen felt a thrill himself. It surprised him that he was actually excited about hunting a dog.
"Let's go, to the South Mountain Forest!"
He waved the 'Dog Slayer' flag and led the charge toward South Mountain, the nearest forest to the Tiandou Royal Academy and a great hideout for the big yellow dog.
There had been numerous sightings of it running in that direction after tricking people.
The South Mountain was filled with dense trees and proximity to the academy, making it perfect for the sly big yellow dog to execute its guerrilla tactics, scaring people and fleeing. Just the thought of it sounded like classic dog behavior.
With nearly 300 spirited masters, the group moved swiftly and soon reached the edge of the South Mountain Forest.
Looking at the thick underbrush, Ye Chen waved his hand, "Stick to the plan: ten people per group, search thoroughly. If you spot the big yellow dog, blow the iron whistle to alert everyone for support. Remember, don't get overconfident; that dog is incredibly fast."
"Don't worry, we know what to do."
With smiles, the group split into dozens of teams, branching out from the forest's edge to cover more ground.
However, it wasn't long before the teams got fully dispersed when a whistle blew from the left. When Ye Chen hurried there with others, he was left speechless by what he saw.
This team of ten had somehow fallen into a cesspit used by soul beasts for waste. The smell was so unbearable that getting close required squinting ones eyes. Ye Chen couldn't comprehend how they ended up here.
"You guys stay and help them out; I'll check elsewhere."
Casually saying this, Ye Chen hurried off. However, he soon heard several whistles from the right, indicating more teams had encountered trouble.
Not wanting to overthink it, Ye Chen just focused on catching the big yellow dog and dashed over. But upon reaching several team locations that had signaled, he soon realized he had been outsmarted by the big yellow dog's cleverness.
Every team, made up of around ten people, had fallen for the big yellow dog's tricks. Some stirred up a hornet's nest, others accidentally broke a soul beast egg, and there was even one group that foolishly chased after a young soul beast with yellow fur, starting to beat it up.
Thus, the poor souls in those teams either got their faces completely wrecked by poisonous bee stings or were chased down by ferocious spirit beasts. Those who had chased the ten-thousand-year-old young spirit beasts fared even worse, getting squished into meat patties by a powerful mother beast.
Rubbing his temples, Ye Chen realized that going about things blindly wasn't effective. He reached into his bag and pulled out a pet spirit beast: an Ice Crystal White Wolf. He'd swiped it from someone unfortunate and thought it'd be just the right bait for the big yellow dog.
Originally, Ye Chen had hoped to lure the big yellow dog with "beauty," but that plan was thwarted by pet lovers, so he prepared a backup strategy.
Gently stroking the fur of the Ice Crystal White Wolf, which was only at level 10, Ye Chen thought, "It's your turn now, 'big sister.' If that silly dog dares to mess with you, I'm certain I'll catch it."
Grinning, he placed the white wolf inside a tree hollow and sprinkled some spirit beast female hormone he had collected around the area. Once finished, Ye Chen climbed onto a large tree branch to wait patiently.
The sounds of "teammates" blowing their iron whistles blended with continuous screams floated through the air, but Ye Chen paid them no mind; these nearly 300 people were just a smokescreen he'd set up.
Rustling sounds emerged nearby. Ye Chen quickly focused, and suddenly, a yellow figure peeked out from the grass, appearing quite alert. The entrance to the white wolf's den released a strong scent of female hormone, irresistibly drawing the big yellow dog's attention.
Out of nowhere, two tall forest grass wolves stepped into view, drawn nearer to the white wolf's den by the enticing scent.
As if sensing competition, the big yellow dog, about one meter tall, sprung from the grass and lunged at the two wolves. The size difference didn't faze it; it moved like a streak of yellow lightning, swiftly dispatching the level 30 forest grass wolves with a single blow.
"Damn, what a fierce dog!"
Ye Chen was surprised. Even though he had suspected the dog was no ordinary beast, its strength still took him aback.
"Awwoo!"
With that, Ye Chen smiled. He knew that the thorny trap he'd set for the Ice Crystal White Wolf was working. Approaching swiftly, he unsheathed his sword and, with a single strike, split the "injured" big yellow dog in two.
Watching the blood pool beneath the wicked creature, Ye Chen couldn't help but feel a surge of joy, the frustrations from being tricked earlier melting away.
Just as Ye Chen was basking in the moment, three powerful presences suddenly descended from the sky, radiating hostility.
Before he could fully assess the situation, three old men exuding formidable spirit power appeared in front of him. One of them grabbed Ye Chen's shoulder and, in the blink of an eye, whisked him skyward, vanishing above the southern mountain forest.
