34: The Game of Life 2
“Yeling, you’re awake.”
Wimia greeted the cream-haired girl with twin tails. Bumansha then introduced this roommate to Loranhil.
Yeling, from the Eastern Continent, had an Eastern father and a Western mother. She had now returned to Emenas in the Western Continent for school. She spoke very little but was well-behaved.
The girl nodded slightly at the remaining new faces in the room, saying, “Hello, everyone.” Then she fell silent.
By this time, Alena, Nya, and Lily had gone out to chase the cat. The remaining people in the room couldn’t continue the game, so it was temporarily paused. Bumansha said she would go reheat some pastries she had baked in the afternoon, leaving Loranhil, Leticia, Wimia, and Yeling to chat.
Although Leticia was talkative when bantering with Alena, she now seemed unsure how to start a conversation. Wimia, wearing her veil, appeared to be thinking about other things. The newly emerged cream-haired girl quietly knelt on the cushion, looking at the scattered cards, showing no desire to speak.
Finally, Loranhil broke the silence, wanting to learn about the situation in the Eastern Continent.
“Hello, I’m Loran, from Cransia.”
Hearing the voice from across, Yeling looked up and nodded.
“I’m Yeling,” she said briefly.
“Did you grow up in the Eastern Continent?”
“Yes, Sister Loran.” She tilted her head, looking at Loranhil with slightly widened silver eyes.
“Well, because of my hair color and appearance, I’m often mistaken for someone from the Eastern Continent, but I don’t actually know much about it…”
Loranhil explained the reason, feeling a strange sensation. She had always conversed with people older than her or peers, and suddenly being called “sister” made her feel a bit uncomfortable.
“Mm.” Yeling nodded, then stood up and returned to the bedroom. She came back a moment later, carrying a stack of books.
“Here.” She placed about ten books in front of Loranhil. The book covers all had square characters. Wait a minute…
“Are these for me to read?” Loranhil accepted the books, realizing from the titles that they must all be classic works.
Yeling nodded again, then knelt down. Her cream-colored Eastern-style dress had silver edges on the sleeves, and her hairstyle was more Western-style twin tails rather than Eastern hairpins and flowing hair. This blend of Eastern and Western styles wasn’t jarring at all, but rather had a unique beauty.
The half-closed door was pushed open as Alena, Nya, and Lily returned with the tabby cat.
“Fortunately, it didn’t run into someone else’s dorm.”
“But the dorm supervisor said we still need to register tomorrow.”
Alena sighed, then lifted the tabby cat high, watching it meow uneasily.
“Silly kitty, if you run away again, I’ll have to tie you up with a rope.”
“That would make the kitty very sad,” Nya said from the side.
“So don’t make me worry, you silly cat.”
Alena sat down again, hugging the orange tabby, and only then noticed the additional person in the room.
“Oh, Yeling is up,” Lily ran over and hugged the petite girl.
Although Yeling didn’t speak, she pushed a little, seemingly displeased, trying to break free from Lily’s embrace.
“Just a moment, Yeling is too cute!” Lily let out an affectionate laugh.
Then Bumansha introduced Yeling to Nya and Alena. After they got acquainted, the game resumed.
“Where were we?”
“You’ve already forgotten? It was Loran being pursued by the prince,” Leticia answered Alena’s question with a hint of mockery.
“What was the dice roll?” Lily looked curiously at Bumansha.
Bumansha didn’t answer immediately, but looked at Loranhil, “I found the dice. Loran, do you want to roll again, or use the number I found?”
“Hmm… let’s roll again.”
“Alright.”
So the dice were once again spinning in a small wooden bowl.
“Does this mean Loran is marrying the prince?” Alena speculated.
“Well, I remember the rules say…”
“If the result is 01, it represents the number 1. If the result is 00, it doesn’t represent 0, but the maximum value of 100,” Bumansha explained the game’s setup. Since there were only two ten-sided dice, each face numbered 0-9, to express numbers from 1-100, 00 naturally had to represent 100.
“So Loran rolled a 100, meaning she doesn’t have to marry the prince?” Nya asked, sounding a bit happy.
“That’s right.”
“Why make such a rule? It would be better if it meant zero according to the original meaning. I was imagining Loran becoming queen and giving me a leg up,” Alena said softly, resting her chin on her hand.
The game continued. As the rounds progressed, Leticia opened more and more shops, constantly developing new products to make money, then using her vast wealth to buy up pieces of land.
Although Alena failed in breeding the leopard, her subsequent breeding of the Sequence 2 · Black Mountain Boar was a great success. Now she had several hundred Black Mountain Boars, giving her the highest overall combat power.
Wimia continued to perform as a diva in various squares along her journey, slowly expanding her fame. Finally, she advanced to Ocean Sequence 5 · Ocean Diva, accumulating very high prestige.
Nya continued to wage wars in the north and south, expanding her territory, seemingly intent on establishing a beast-folk nation on the grasslands.
Loranhil established schools on the squares she passed, gradually collecting hero cards.
Lily continued to tirelessly use various tactics to pursue the prince, but unfortunately made little progress.
“Dice result: Check failed. The prince ignored you and wasn’t moved.”
“Ugh, even though my character’s charm isn’t low, why does the prince always look down on me?” Lily lay on the cushion, pounding it in frustration.
“Perhaps it’s racial difference? Or cultural reasons?” Wimia guessed softly.
“I don’t want to play anymore.”
“Yeling, do you want to play? You can take over from here. As long as you can marry the prince, it’s fine. I’m going to eat something,” Lily said.
Yeling nodded. Receiving the agreement, Lily jumped up and ran to the kitchen to sneak some snacks.
“Don’t eat it all, leave some for everyone as a midnight snack,” Bumansha reminded helplessly, watching Lily’s retreating figure.
“No problem…” came a muffled response.
“Now then, it’s Yeling’s turn to roll the dice.”
Yeling rolled the dice and advanced, this time entering a big city square.
“What action do you want to take?” Bumansha asked.
“Brothel,” Yeling said concisely, then pointed to an ability in the setting book.
“Do you want to learn this?”
Yeling nodded.
“Alright, Yeling learns seduction,” Bumansha announced.
“No.” Yeling shook her head, pointing towards the kitchen. “It’s her.”
“I see, I understand,” Bumansha also revealed a knowing smile.
“Lily learns seduction.”
Only then did Yeling nod with satisfaction.
In the following rounds, Yeling manipulated the character named Lily, learning all kinds of charm skills, then sought an audience with the king. After a successful check, she enchanted the old king and directly became the queen, that is, the prince’s stepmother. She then gave birth to a child and used schemes to hasten the old king’s demise.
After the king’s death, Lily suppressed the original prince and put her own child on the throne. She then imprisoned the prince and employed various tactics.
“Dice result: Check successful. You’ve successfully tamed the prince, making him your most loyal lover.”
After more than a dozen rounds, Bumansha and the others watched Yeling’s series of amazing operations, successfully bringing Lily and the prince together.
“I’m full and feeling a bit sleepy. How did Yeling play? Did she marry the prince?” Lily walked out of the kitchen at this moment.
“Yes, she did,” the others chorused in affirmation. Only Yeling stood up slightly, and though she didn’t speak, she looked every bit like someone cute trying to flee from guilt.
“Really? Let me see.”
Lily ran over happily, followed by a surprised cry of dismay.
“Why? How could you do this, Yeling?”
Lily turned around, wanting to catch Yeling and give her a good ‘caress’, but by then Yeling had already hidden behind Loranhil, only her long twin tails visible.
