32: The Board Game
“Aren’t we going to call Yeling?” asked the other girl sitting on the cushion. She had sea-blue long hair and wore a thin veil. Although her face wasn’t visible, from her clear voice like flowing water and azure eyes, one could guess she was also an extraordinarily beautiful girl.
It must be said that among this year’s new female students at Emenas, there were indeed more top-tier beauties in terms of appearance and figure compared to previous years. If this girl were to remove her veil, it would probably cause quite a stir.
“I’ll go check,” Bumansha said, then opened the bedroom door nearby. The room was dark. She went in for a moment and came back out.
“Yeling says she wants to sleep and doesn’t want to get up.”
“Little sister Yeling isn’t coming?”
“If she wants to sleep, let her sleep well,” Bumansha shook her head.
“Never mind, let’s start quickly,” Lily said excitedly, then began to explain the rules.
First was choosing a race. Each character had three attributes: Attack, Life, and Charm, and four skills: Mathematics, Literature, Law, and Combat. Different races had different initial bonuses, and depending on the race, they would have different reactions and outcomes when facing events.
Human——Attack 5 Life 5 Charm 5, Mathematics 10, Literature 10, Law 15
Beast-folk——Attack 7 Life 8 Charm 4, Combat 30
Elf——Attack 6 Life 6 Charm 7, Literature 20, Law 5, Combat 15
“How does this look? Humans seem to be at a disadvantage at the start,” Alena looked at the introduction booklet.
“But humans have more room for development in the later stages, so choosing human isn’t bad,” Lily explained.
“Are there subdivisions for beast-folk?” Nya asked softly.
“Yes, there are. Let me find it. Here’s the chart for you,” Lily said, handing a chart to Nya.
“I’ll still choose human. I prefer it,” Loranhil said after some thought. She wanted to play for the late game and have more possibilities.
After discussing, everyone began to fill out their character cards and handed them to the host, Bumansha.
“Alright, now that everyone has created their characters, let’s start entering the academy map. After five rounds on the academy map, there will be a graduation exam. You need all four skills to be above 30 to graduate steadily; otherwise, there’s a chance of failing and being held back,” Bumansha explained.
Alena——Silver Elf, Attack 6 Life 6 Charm 7, Mathematics 0, Literature 10, Law 15, Combat 15
Lily——Ice Elf, Attack 6 Life 6 Charm 7, Mathematics 0, Literature 30, Law 0, Combat 15
Loranhil——Human, Attack 5 Life 5 Charm 5, Mathematics 10, Literature 10, Law 15, Combat 0
Nya——Beast-folk, Attack 8 Life 8 Charm 3, Mathematics 0, Literature 0, Law 0, Combat 35
Leticia——Human, Attack 5 Life 5 Charm 5, Mathematics 10, Literature 10, Law 15, Combat 0
Wimia——Special Race, Attack 4 Life 4, Charm 9, Mathematics 0, Literature 20, Law 10, Combat 5
“What’s this special race about?” Alena asked curiously.
“It’s a rare race from other regions. According to the game rules, it’s kept secret and will be revealed later,” Bumansha explained, winking. The blue-haired girl with the veil was Wimia.
“I see,” Alena nodded.
“Why did you choose to be a Silver Elf?” Leticia asked from the side.
“Because it seemed powerful at the start,” Alena replied frankly.
“Hehe, you’ll regret it later,” Leticia laughed maliciously.
“But elves are really beautiful,” Lily expressed her own opinion.
“Alright, let’s start now,” Bumansha announced.
Alena rolled the dice first.
Alena moved 3 spaces, entering a classroom square. “Choose a skill and roll the dice for a check.”
“I choose Literature.”
Dice result: Check successful, Literature +5. Bumansha announced from the side.
Then it was Lily’s turn. She rolled the dice, moved 2 spaces, and landed on an event square: Someone is being bullied.
“Of course I’ll help. There must be benefits,” Lily answered, then rolled the dice.
Dice result: Check failed. Lily was also beaten up along with the victim. Life -1.
“Sigh, am I that weak?”
Next was Loranhil. She rolled the dice, moved 2 spaces, and landed on an event square: Someone is being bullied.
“Well, I’ll help,” Loranhil chose with interest.
Dice result: Check successful. Loranhil rescued her classmate and taught the bullies a lesson. Gained 5 Reputation and 5 Combat skill.
“Why couldn’t I do that?” Lily mumbled to herself, resting her chin on her hand.
Then it was Nya’s turn. She rolled the dice, moved 5 spaces, and landed on a duel square: You’ve had a conflict with a classmate who wants to duel you.
“Should I fight?” Nya looked at Bumansha curiously.
Dice result: Check successful. Nya caught her opponent off guard and knocked them out with one punch. Looted 20 coins, gained 5 Reputation.
“Wow, we can get money too?” Nya cheered softly, and Bumansha handed her two paper rolls representing coins.
It was Leticia’s turn. She rolled the dice, moved 4 spaces, and landed on a cafeteria square: Do you want to buy something? You start with 10 coins.
“I’ll buy some bread.” Acquired.
Finally, it was Wimia’s turn. She rolled the dice, moved 1 space, and landed on an opportunity square: Draw a card. You found a magical seed.
The game continued with cycles of dice rolling, moving forward, encountering events, experiencing adventures, and making choices.
After several rounds:
Alena landed on an event square. Due to an argument with a classmate, Alena chose to duel, injured the classmate, gained Reputation, was confined for two turns, missed classes, and gained 5 Law skill.
“Haha, Alena, you’ll just have to wait,” Leticia laughed.
As the game progressed, everyone had completed over 4 rounds. At this point, Loranhil, Leticia, Wimia, and Lily were likely to graduate without issues, but Alena and Nya’s situations were more precarious.
Nya’s problem was her unbalanced development. Other skills improved very slowly, with only her Combat skill reaching 75.
Nya rolled the dice and landed on an opportunity square. Due to having 30 Reputation and 80 Combat, she gained the title ‘Academy Tyrant’. From now on, she would receive 5 coins each turn and additional rewards when leaving school.
“Wow, Nya is amazing,” Lily said enviously.
“But I want to graduate properly,” Nya lowered her head and continued moving her character token helplessly.
“It’s my turn!” Leticia seemed to be addicted to the game, exclaiming happily before rolling the dice.
Leticia passed the starting square. Having met all requirements, she was allowed to graduate and received 200 coins and 150 followers.
Bumansha announced this and moved her character token to the world map on the side.
Next, the blue-haired girl Wimia rolled the dice and moved forward. She landed on an event square: Wimia participates in the graduation party and sings.
Dice result: Check successful, points exceeded double. Wimia’s performance was a great success. She gained the title ‘Diva’. After leaving school, she would gain 20 followers each turn.
Then it was Loranhil’s turn. She rolled the dice and moved forward, landing on a classroom square. Because her Literature, Mathematics, and Law skills all reached 80, she gained the title ‘Sage’. After leaving school, she would gain 5 Reputation every 2 turns.
After a few more rounds, only Alena and Nya remained on the academy map.
Nya attempted her third graduation check.
Dice result: Check failed. Nya couldn’t graduate normally and left the school map. She couldn’t receive graduation rewards, but due to her ‘Academy Tyrant’ title, she gained 300 followers.
Alena attempted her third graduation check.
Dice result: Check successful. Alena graduated and received 200 coins and 150 followers.
“Now everyone has entered the world map,” Bumansha announced.
“You’re so slow, Alena. I’ve already gone around the world map once and even bought a house,” Leticia looked at her roommate across from her and boasted.
