Shattered Veil: Rise Of The New Gods

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Trial of Sky 4- So The King Moves

A single wolf approached, it blue eyes shining in the shadows as it was sniffing the air, it was moving cautiously, looking around like it was expecting an attack. He waited patiently until it was only 20 metres away from his position then he attacked.

His dart flew silently between the trees, the wolf reacted a bit too late, it struck it neck, it thick hide offered no resistance to the essence enhanced dart, the attack caused the wolf to jump and yelp in pain.

It ran, he jumped down from the tree and chased after it making sure to keep a safe distance. He went back to his hiding spot and got lost in his thoughts. 5 minutes, it took 5 minutes for the wolf to die and 3 of those minutes it was barely effected by poison.

That too long, with their speed and numbers, I don't even know how many times they could kill me in that time period. I need a stronger poison but where will I get it?

Adding more of the snakes poison will just increase the quantity not the quality unless I can find a way to inject all of that poison into them which I don't.

He sank into his memories, remembering all those passages he read about plants. The only problem though, none of the plants here resembled anything he had ever read about.

He sighed, this was way too much work, why can't things just be easy for once. When he get out of here he will find a lot of subordinates to do his bidding and he will sleep all day.

That thought brought a smile to his face. Okay Morpheus, you can do this. He stood up and walked in a certain direction. He didn't know how to spot poisonous plants and had no way to check if they are so he didn't even try.

After walking for a few kilometres he came out to a small pond with trees and flowers. What was he doing here? Well it simple, if you looking for a poisonous creature, search for a wetland, or atleast that what he learnt, did I learn that? He doesn't remember but this was the closest thing to a wetland here.

He was proven right, it didn't take long for him to find what he was looking for, it was a beautiful frog with different colours adorning it skin, especially it back, purple being the most prominent.

He ripped out his shirt and rapped it around his hand, he was not touching that thing with his bare hands. He sneaked up behind the frog and snatched it before could react. It croaked loudly but he squashed it, killing it instantly.

He drained the poison from it body and mixed it with the snake venom, the results was a purplish black liquid that just screamed death.

He tested his new poison on a tree, the area around the dart did not just turn black or purple, it withered at a visible rate. He pitied whatever would have to deal with that.

Done with his super poison .2, it was time to hunt. If he had any hope to rest, he would need to eliminate the entire pack then kill their stupid leader.

He went on his way, the wolves were still actively searching for him but without his scent they had to track him with only their eyes which they weren't used to and obviously not good at.

This worked perfectly in his favour, he started picking them out one by one. The new poison was more effective. Each wolf died within 2 minutes but it was the new paralysis aspect that impressed him, it took only 3 seconds for the target to slow down and within 30 they could nolonger move.

Within 5 hours he had killed over 7 wolves that were traveling alone but finding those was becoming harder. Most he had seen were traveling in groups of 2 or more.

So he had no other choise but to go for them, he would start with the groups that had the lowest numbers. He found 2 wolves busy sniffing the air with vigilant looks in their eyes.

It was strange how these wolves were so ardent on finding him, was the trial making them seek him out as a target? If so then killing them first was definitely a good idea or he wouldn't be able to rest in this place.

He shot one with a dart, it jumped, startling the other, before the second one could discover his position he shot it as well and left them both there without waiting to see them die, he knew they would anyways.

He continued this a few more times until he couldn't find another ground of two. He started searching for those in groups of three but found none.

Infact he could nolonger see any wolf at all, he was certain there were more of them so for them to just disappear was very suspicious. This made him nervous.

He continued searching and still found nothing, just as he was about to leave he heard a deafening howl that reverberated across the forest.

He knew this howl, it was the same as the one before which he assumed was from the leader of this pack and his target for this challenge.

He wasn't ready to face it yet, he didn't want to face it while it still had it pack. For the creature to be a prime target of a trial it must be powerful, not to mention intelligent.

It realised it subordinates were dying and called them back, that probably why he couldn't see any wolf. While lost in his thoughts he heard them.

Multiple creatures were running towards him, their steps shook the ground. He ran faster and when he realised he couldn't outrun them he climbed on top of a tree to hide.

Unfortunately unlike before, he was discovered pretty quickly but they were still spread out which made the situation less hopeless, before the wolf could call the others he shot it with a dart.

Unfortunately for him though, the wolves were no longer traveling alone, a few others were relatively close to it so they heard it painful yelp.

Multiple howls reverberated across the entire forest. Even more followed, he had been discovered. I have to move, if they get to me I won't stand a chance.

He moved, however he did not jump down, instead he started jumping from tree to tree, which was easy considering how close the trees were.

He once read that dogs couldn't climb so he shouldn't be in trouble unless he jumped down, just as that thought appeared in his mind his instincts warned him of tremendous danger, that if he didn't move, he would die.

Instinctively he jumped down and rolled on the ground and a moment later a beam of cold blue energy hit the tree he was in freezing it instantly from it leaves down to it roots.

He turned his head and he was immediately faced with multiple pairs of blue eyes that glaring at him with uncontrollable hunger and savagery, with them came came maws drooling with salava, their fangs gleaming in the moon light like polished daggers. Ohhh hell nah.
