Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Veil of Deception
This revelation brought a huge burden on the system that occupied Aiden's thoughts. What was in front of him was out of measure, M-rank, God-rank… Still, a vision of his mother's thin, delicate shape forced everything away and made the boy think only of power.
He had to grow muscled, yes, but the reasons for growing muscles where evident, it was for his family. His mother sickness was escalating and no physician had been able to cure her. If there is one thing that she could not afford to lose it is time.
Aiden was in his small, poorly lit apartment stalking like a caged up animal. There were so many ideas in his head he did not even know how to begin. If the system knew so much about his future powers then it must surely be able to do something about his mother's sickness?
"System," Aiden said louder, his voice shaking as he tried to keep it under control, "Can she be healed, my mother, is there a cure for her Health?"
The system answered at once and its steady, emotionless tone echoed in his thoughts.
[Analytics of the subject request:.. ].
Then I saw her take a moment, before a small, melodious tone rang out in the air.
[Subject's mother caught a disease more familiar to them as "Void Corrosion", a sickness brought by long exposure to unstable dimensional energy cannot be treated through traditional medicine but it has a holistic cure that is residing in some special dungeons.]
Aiden's heart pounded. "A dungeon?"
[Right. The entity of life necessary to cure your mother is detected in the heart of some of these dungeons, and this is called the "Heart of the Void. " This is hidden in an apparent A-ranked dungeon. ]
Aiden's brows furrowed. "Disguised?"
The system elaborated.
The New Arcadia is surrounded by E-rank dungeon but there is actually an A-rank dungeon in truth, full of strong monsters and traps, and the dungeon is concealed as unstable until it is activated by someone or something powerful The target is at the Heart of void.
A sour pain settled in Aiden's stomach as he considered it. An A-rank dungeon? Now he was a man only one rank above H and practically at the start of it all. Any hunter would not dare to approach such a dungeon without them being at least B-rank hunters. But his mother's life was in danger [350], due to the nefarious activities of his stepfather.
If he did wait until he had gotten stronger then it would be too late.
"Can I... survive that dungeon?" He asked the system, almost in hushed tones. He was not sure if he was up to such a task but there was no other thing that he could do.
The system interrupted his hesitations with its voice.
[Your current rank and abilities are not enough for A-rank dungeon. However, as the system develops your strength and skills will rapidly increase. Every day there will be a specific mission for the preparation for the forthcoming trial. ]
Another message flashed before Aiden's eyes: Another message flashed before Aiden's eyes:
[New Quest Assigned: Obtain the Heart of the Void. Get ready for combat inside the A rank dungeon. Rewards: Cure for subject's mother, 50000EXP, New Skill.
Aiden clenched his fists. He understood this was risky, but the system has already passed the test, and he believed in the suggestions that it provided. He would had to use his brains, muscles and the system in order to survive in the facility.
Therefore, with a little bit of courage, Aiden breathed in deeply to open the map on his phone. By the system it was stated that the dungeon was in the outskirts of New Arcadia, though in a portion of the small forest that the hunters seldom ventured into. E-rank dungeons were always avoided by the upper- ranking hunters because they were said to be particularly designed to be a training ground for the weaklings. There was nothing which would make anyone who passed over this path think that there was any great peril lurking just beyond.
There was no use arguing with him when he got like this, so with a sigh I watched him put on his jacket and open the door. He could not afford to wait for more signals and indications of what he has to do next. It was worse because every morning that he woke up knowing his mother was alive meant that he was still a day away from losing her for good.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was windy and still Aiden stood at the beginning of the dungeon he was about to embark. To an observer it must have been the most nominal and innocuous structure that one could ever imagine. A group of black sharp looking rocks made up of some kind of cave opening was surrounded by trees that were dancing in the wind. The hum of dimensional energy was audible at this level but it could hardly be said it posed a threat.
Aiden exhaled and moved forward placing his feet on the cave mouth. He was no longer in the office environment the moment he crossed the door step. There was a moment of suspense and it became extremely dark before changing to red; the colour of mischief.
Before his eyes the las-grey walls of the cave Illuminate in the darkness and the rank of the dungeon is shown.
[Dungeon Rank: A-Rank. Difficulty level:High.
The system's calm voice came back.
[Warning: [ Dungeon has entered its activated state. Beware. ]
The stallion's eyes widened and the environment of the cave changed entirely, when Aiden's senses reacted to what was going on around them. E-rank which was harmless dungeon had changed and the shadow in that dungeon moved as if alive. The air was cooler and the earth below was shaking as though something primordial had roused itself to life.
"This, I think, this is it," I heard Aiden muttering to himself with the sounds of a rushing adrenaline pumping inside of him. He had thought that he was in for it, but this was something else only. The system had alerted him, but what was in front of him was the real form of the dungeon and he was overwhelmed.
However, now it has become inevitable to look forward for the action.
He used to have his own dreams, his own goals But for his mother, for his family – he would continue. His life was in danger, and a mission to rescue her life had started.
