Chapter 50: Rigged
I didn't want to sit down in a boring history class for two hours but what I didn't want to do even more was stand outside for that same amount of time. Though why was she the one taking us history, as far as I remember she's not our history instructor.
So I; "instructor Cromwell, please I would like to sincerely apologize, I assure you it won't happen again, it's just that I was up late training yesterday, hence the reason why I was late" I said in a sincere and elegant tone.
"Knowing not how to do the right thing at the wrong time is one of the reasons you're in this academy" she countered.
"I agree, so could you excuse this one time as it is my first" I asked. "But it isn't exactly your first, is it? Stop wasting my time and get out" she spat with annoyance. 'This bitch' I cursed inwardly and proceeded towards the door. I took a glance at Owen who was laughing his ass off. 'Fucker' I thought.
"Mr Hargreaves, would you perhaps like to join him outside?" asked the instructor making him almost fall of his seat. "Serves you right" I mouthed to him. After that I went outside and stood in the hallway. It wasn't until thirty minutes later that the doors swung open and a cold voice sounded.
"Come in" surprise surprise, it was Ms Evelyn. "Next time you're late to my class don't even bother to come" she said.
"Thank you for the pardon ins...." I started to speak but she cut me off. "Enough with that go to your seat" she said waving her hand.
I went to my seat at the last row just beside Owen. He tried talking to me, even going as far as to nudging me with his thigh but I ignored him completely. Soon the class was over. "Listen everyone, on this Thursday, that is the day after tomorrow, you'll be having a mock test and by that I mean the entire first year, including the normal, elite and special classes" said Ms Evelyn.
As soon as she said that, the class burst into chatter.
'Hmmm, entire first years, that makes the entire one thousand nine hundred and eighty four of us excluding the casualties during the attack' I thought.
"Can you tell us what the test is about" asked a cadet.
"No, you'll know about it on the day" she answered before taking her leave.
"The entire first year huh, this is going to be fun" Owen said turning to me. "How is it going to be fun" I asked. "You must have noticed that the ratio of nobles to commoners in the special class is much. For example there are roughly thirty something nobles in the special class" he said.
"And how is that not normal?" I asked. "From my family alone, there are five others in the first year excluding me, and also for other families with the Ashbourne family having around ten cadets" he answered.
"So? I asked before it hit me, "so you're saying none of those guys are in the special class?" I asked.
"Exactly, you see apart from me, no other cadet from my family is in the special class and the same goes for Aurora, Ashley, Quinn, Damien and Victor's families".
"So your point is?"
"It can't just be a coincidence, a coincidence might happen once or twice but for it to happen to all the seven big families, the entrance exam must have been..."
"Rigged" I cut him off. "But it's not possible, not unless they put all individuals in a specific location where they're certain about the number of beasts or other perticipants said individual will encounter".
"Exactly" he said. "So now you get why I said it'll be fun?
"Yeah, they will want to prove themselves by targeting all those in the special class except you guys in the top families".
"You got that right" he said. "You love chaos" I said to him, 'but so do I' I added in my mind.
"What's life without some chaos" he smirked.
Just then I felt a heated gaze at my back, I turned around only to see a furious clown sending me a hateful glare, but didn't dare to come closer, most likely because he still remembers the beating I gave him yesterday or because I was around Owen.
"Wow that's some hate" said Owen. "How and when did you guys get to know each other? he asked. "Fifteen slaps ago" I replied as I told him everything that happened yesterday.
"I didn't know you were this savage or this ruthless" he spoke with mock admonishment but the smirk on his face gave him away.
"Sigh Let's get going" I sighed as I knew it'll be another boring class. The combat class was unexpectedly....more boring than I thought. As expected, instructor Blake wasn't there, only his so called assistant. We just had to go through the same practices over and over again until it was time for lunch.
In the cafeteria, I once again felt the same hateful stare. "Dude if looks could kill, you'd have been dead over and over with the way that guy's staring at you" Owen said sitting across me. I looked back and met the clown's gaze but he quickly left the cafeteria.
The day passed faster than I could blink. Before I knew it, the classes were already over. I was very tired, more mentally than physically and the cause was boredom.
Beside me was an equally bored Owen. "Hey what say we race to the dorms?" he asked. "Hmmm nice idea but how about we fly there?" I said as I wanted to test my flying speed to Owen's. He was a full fledge gold rank after all.
"We're on" he said as we got out of the academic building. "So how do we this?"
"The same as the last time of course, we count down to zero from three, but we can start preparing and then blast off at zero" I said. Then we started, "3", we both said and our aura spread out like a tide, "2", and this time I used bloodline reinforcement, "1", I started to lower my gravity but still stayed on the ground and "0", we both blasted off with immense speed.
