Chapter 20
The banquet at the Count’s residence was luxurious.
Of course, since we were extras, we were leisurely enjoying our meal.
“Sarina, do you not need to greet anyone?”
“I am a noble from another country, so I will do it later. But I was surprised to become acquainted with His Royal Highness.”
“It was a chance encounter. He seemed troubled about not being able to return to Raad, so I agreed to help him.”
“His Royal Highness is kind, which is fortunate, but you have to be careful. The noble society can be terrifying.”
“I’ll be more careful next time.”
While Sarina gave me a warning, I continued to enjoy the meal.
“So you were here. May we talk for a bit?”
Louise approached us.
Then, as we were having a light conversation, a man appeared.
“Princess Louise, I am Horn. How about we talk while feeling the night breeze together?”
He had a sweet expression, trying to entice Louise…
“I’m sorry. I can’t be alone with someone I don’t know. So, please excuse me.”
Louise declined and turned back to us, but the man seemed infuriated by the rejection.
“Instead of talking with me, you prefer to talk with a man of unknown origin?”
The man was glaring at us, seemingly holding back his anger. Maybe he was mad to get rejected.
“How can you be so rude? I don’t know who you are, and this person is my benefactor. It is clear who is more important.”
Louise made a logical argument, but it seemed to have the opposite effect on the angry man.
“Just come with me. I’ll make you feel good right away.”
The man tried to pull Louise’s hand, so I pinned him down.
Ever since I awakened the skill, I had become somewhat capable in martial arts. I think it might be related to the self-defense techniques of the military.
“Do you think you can get away with that kind of behavior with me, Horn?”
“You’re the one who’s being disrespectful. A gentleman should show proper manners to a cute lady.”
“Cute, you say…”
Louise blushed and seemed somewhat flustered.
The first to arrive on the scene of this commotion was Count’s daughter, Anna.
“What are you doing? Let go of him!”
Anna pushed me aside and helped Horn.
Hesitating to use force against a woman, I released Horn without resistance.
“I apologize, Anna. I let my guard down.”
“How rude of you. That’s why I can’t stand commoners.”
Looking at the two of them, I remembered. These were the people I encountered when I first arrived in this world. He is the adventurer who took credit for defeating bandits I had actually defeated.
“Ah~ so you are the adventurer who took credit for defeating the bandits I defeated six months ago?”
“What! Took credit? Don’t say such a nonsense!”
Horn was flustered.
He got his current position as a knight here due to saving Anna. However, he didn’t defeat any bandits and only managed to save her when the bandits were already defeated, so…
“Well, that was the truth? You claimed credit for defeating the bandits I actually defeated.”
“No way! How can you say that I…”
“How did you manage to defeat them without cutting them with your sword?”
The surrounding people started to murmur.
Even the knights who knew the situation were suspicious of the way he defeated the bandits.
Horn was a swordsman who couldn’t use magic. And he only carried a regular longsword. But the bandits he supposedly defeated only had small holes in them.
Anna was infatuated with Horn and wouldn’t question him, but there were indeed many suspicious points.
Furthermore, Horn’s attitude was terrible. He used his position as Anna’s crush to his advantage and was arrogant toward his senior knights and superiors.
As a result, there was no one willing to defend Horn.
