Chapter 744: Evidence
"Of course!" Liu Hao immediately nodded.
"Was it you who sabotaged our company last year, including severing the business ties with our collaborators?" Li Xiaoya asked.
Liu Hao hesitated for a moment, then hurriedly pleaded with an air of despair, "By heaven and earth, this... this was absolutely not my doing—it has nothing to do with me at all!"
Liu Hao was well aware of the seriousness of the matter. Once someone grasped this handle against him, he could very well end up in prison. Although his father was a member of the Political and Legal Committee, getting into trouble would still require someone to clean up the mess.
Li Xiaoya's lips curled into a smile, then she said, "Liu Hao, stop pretending."
"Pretending what?" Liu Hao asked.
"Hehe, you almost had me believing you with your earnest appearance," Li Xiaoya said as she crossed her legs and sat in a luxurious office chair. Her demeanor was imposing, akin to a queen making an entrance, making people feel they can only look up to her, not directly at her.
"You!" Liu Hao panicked upon hearing this, "Then what do you want me to do for you to believe me?"
"I just don't believe you!" Li Xiaoya shook her head.
"You don't believe me?" Liu Hao became anxious, "Then you should bring up some evidence at least, shouldn't you?"
Li Xiaoya frowned, feeling somewhat annoyed. In fact, she did not want to sour their relationship. She had already tucked away those pieces of evidence, stored in a safe. If necessary, she could produce them at any time, and these pieces of evidence were absolutely crucial, serving as her means to restrain Liu Hao.
Li Xiaoya's lips curled into a smile. She looked coldly at him, then said, "Are you sure you want them?"
"Yes!" Liu Hao nodded.
"Fine, then I'll give them to you!" Li Xiaoya wanted to completely cut ties with Liu Hao to prevent him from harassing her day after day. Therefore, she decided to produce the evidence, which would leave him utterly speechless henceforth.
Soon, Li Xiaoya retrieved a folder from the safe. It contained numerous photos, some documents, and a USB drive.
Thump...
Li Xiaoya threw the thick stack of documents and photos in front of Liu Hao but kept the USB drive in her hand.
Liu Hao initially did not believe Li Xiaoya had any evidence because, in his view, if anyone possessed such evidence, they would undoubtedly sue him and report the case. But, since Li Xiaoya hadn't, it meant that there was no evidence or that the evidence was insufficient.
However, as soon as Liu Hao opened the documents, his face turned pale. To him, the contents seemed somewhat terrifying. The information and photos all pointed directly at him, leaving him with no room for excuses.
"This..." Liu Hao was dumbfounded.
"What else do you have to say now?" Li Xiaoya sneered and said, "Liu Hao, sometimes I don't want to say anything. But, you always push too far, forcing me to remind you, is that it?"
"No, this is someone framing me!" Liu Hao shook his head.
"Hmph, these would be enough to convict you if submitted in court," Li Xiaoya scoffed and said, "Originally, I just wanted to find some evidence of your actions against Huihong Group, but I unexpectedly discovered something else!"
"What unexpected thing?" Liu Hao furrowed his brows.
"Early last year, a girl came to your house, remember?" Li Xiaoya smiled meaningfully at him, "The girl was quite pregnant."
"You!" Liu Hao was stunned upon hearing this.
This was a deep, dark secret of his heart, and now, this secret was suddenly exposed, as though his cover was ripped away. So, Liu Hao was instantly at a loss for words.
The girl was someone he had dated years ago, quite pretty. Although she was slightly less beautiful than Li Xiaoya, it was undeniable that she was beautiful. Liu Hao had played with her emotions and left her pregnant. Thus, the girl had come to his door, demanding he marry her.
Liu Hao tried to persuade her kindly to have an abortion. But the girl flatly refused. Eventually, she threatened Liu Hao that if he didn't marry her, she would give birth to the child and later claim his property.
This threat had made Liu Hao consider murder. So, in a subsequent argument driven by anger, Liu Hao ended up killing her, then dumped her body in Wangjiang. She was never found again. Since the girl was from out of town, no one knew about this incident.
However, Li Xiaoya knew about it.
"No!" Liu Hao shook his head and said, "Xiaoya, I don't know what you're talking about."
"I know the girl's last name, where she lived," Li Xiaoya said with a smile, "I also know you dumped her body in Wangjiang, and her body was never found again. Right?"
Upon hearing this, a hint of murderous intent flashed in Liu Hao's eyes.
Knowing such a colossal secret was too much for him to remain calm.
"Liu Hao, if you don't want others to know, you shouldn't have done it in the first place," Li Xiaoya sighed and said, "It was over the line for you to drive them away, but to kill them—that case is even worse than what you did to my company. I chose not to call the police out of respect for our past friendship. But if you continue to harass me, I will not let you off."
"You!" Liu Hao's face changed color, unable to settle on an expression.
At that moment, he felt an urge, but he was in Li Xiaoya's office, and making a move here would definitely bring trouble upon himself. So, Liu Hao calmed himself and controlled his impulse.
"Impossible, nonsense," Liu Hao shook his head and said, "I never did such things, Xiaoya, don't frame me wrongly!"
"I'm not," Li Xiaoya sneered, then added, "I dare to bring it up because I have evidence. Without evidence, do you think I'd recklessly make such accusations? You can sue me for defamation anytime!"
Li Xiaoya was calm, but she felt some regret after speaking out. She feared Liu Hao's retaliation. However, on further reflection, she felt there was nothing to fear. After all, holding the knife handle, what was there to fear from him?
Thus, Li Xiaoya appeared very composed.
Instead, Liu Hao was the one whose thoughts were in disarray, unsure of what to do.
"Right!" Li Xiaoya smiled and said, "Don't even think about killing me. I have saved the evidence and videos of your crimes in my email. If I do not access my email within forty-eight hours, it will automatically send the evidence and videos to various major media outlets."
Li Xiaoya was very calm solely because she felt no urgency. Holding leverage over Liu Hao, she naturally was not afraid.
"Don't scare me," Liu Hao said calmly, "I'm quite a coward."
"No worries," Li Xiaoya shook her head, then added, "I won't act rashly, so you have nothing to be afraid about."
"Fine," Liu Hao smiled, then stood up and said, "Since Director Li refuses to entertain my request and does not want to collaborate with my company, let it be. I have other matters to attend to, so I'm leaving now."
"Okay!" Li Xiaoya nodded.
Having said that, Liu Hao turned and left.
The moment he got up, his expression was distinctly off. He appeared exceptionally silent and calm, his face ghastly pale.
Leaving Huihong Group, Liu Hao stood dumbfounded at the entrance of Huihong Building, looking up at the glaring sun, feeling cold throughout his body for the first time, covered with a layer of cold sweat.
"Bitch, how dare she investigate me!" Liu Hao gritted his teeth, wishing he could crush Li Xiaoya to dust. However, with his vulnerability in her hands, he dared not act rashly. Liu Hao forced himself to calm down, muttering to himself: "I must... must kill you, otherwise... I might be threatened by you for the rest of my life!"
Liu Hao was terrified, fearing the threat from Li Xiaoya, which might leave him living a life neither human nor ghost.
Yet, if he killed Li Xiaoya, it would be tantamount to sending himself to prison, perhaps even to the firing squad. He absolutely could not act rashly. Liu Hao knew Li Xiaoya had many connections behind her. If it became known that Li Xiaoya died by his hand, even his father's influence might not save him.
"Director Liu, aren't you getting in the car?" the driver asked from a distance.
"Get in the car!" Liu Hao nodded.
Once in the car, Liu Hao was completely lost in his thoughts, oblivious to everything around him. It wasn't until the driver brought him back to the company that he finally snapped out of his daze.
After Liu Hao left, Li Xiaoya sat alone in her office, blankly staring at the glass opposite her, observing everything outside the window, which seemed very foreign to her. For someone always secluded in an office building, the outside world felt very unfamiliar, yet greatly desirable.
Having spoken out, Li Xiaoya also felt some worry internally. Thus, she continuously pondered over what she should do.
Even possessing leverage, if Liu Hao acted impulsively, it would be highly disadvantageous for her. Although sending him to prison was an option, it could cost her life. Hence, Li Xiaoya increasingly regretted her impulsive action of revealing Liu Hao's murderous act. In reality, homicide was a fairly normal event in the process of capital accumulation, with countless lives lost in its wake.
Li Xiaoya sighed, then stood up to pour herself a glass of water.
Knock, knock, knock...
Suddenly, a series of knocks sounded at the door.
"Come in!" Li Xiaoya called out.
Subsequently, Xiao Han pushed the door open and entered.
Xiao Han was the only person who did not need the secretary's permission to enter Li Xiaoya's office. Seeing Xiao Han come in, Li Xiaoya was initially startled, then her face lit up with a delighted smile, as if a beautiful girl had just seen her lover.
