Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead

Chapter 5: Chapter 4: The First Quest

Eleanore's hands flew to her hair, clutching the golden strands as the horror of her fate washed over her.

"That damned author! What on earth was he thinking, sticking me with a villainess's role?" She clenched her fist and slammed it onto the vanity table, sending a scattering of glass bottles and delicate trinkets crashing to the floor. "Of all the characters, he just had to make me the one that gets killed off, in the first chapter, at that!"

The unfairness of it all burned in her chest. She could have been the heroine, Stella, and lived a life of love and happiness with the main villain, Caelestis. But no, she had been saddled with Eleanore Sinclair's tragic role, forced into a script she never wanted to be a part of.

"Elle!" a voice called out urgently, cutting through her frustrated muttering. She turned sharply, her heart still racing, to see a man entering the room with a look of deep concern etched across his handsome features. He had the same striking golden hair as hers, though a shade more muted, and his eyes, a soft pinkish-red, held a warmth that made her pause.

He strode toward her and caught her gently by her arms, searching for any injuries with worry. "Are you all right, Elle?" he asked, his gaze drifting over the broken glass and scattered perfumes at their feet. "Did you hurt yourself?"

Before Eleanore could respond, he turned to the staff who had followed him in and ordered firmly, "Everyone, leave." The room emptied in an instant, Marina among the others also complied with the order by leaving just the two of them.

He guided Eleanore back to the couch, sitting down beside her, his hands enveloping hers with a gentle warmth. "Elle, are you upset?"

"Why would you ask that?" she asked, genuinely confused.

Her brother, as she now realized him to be, gave her a concerned look. "Is this about Caelestis refusing to be your partner for the upcoming ball?" His expression softened, and he stroked her hand reassuringly. "I know it hurts, but it's alright. You're the most beautiful woman in the Seraphine Kingdom. You can pick anyone as your partner. There's no reason to waste your time on a man like him."

Eleanore blinked, trying to process his words. He was talking as if she were actually heartbroken over Caelestis Lancaster! In the web novel, the owner of this body had indeed been fixated on Caelestis, becoming increasingly jealous of his closeness to Stella, which ultimately led to her doom. But she, Eleanore, had no such feelings. She had never wanted Caelestis in the first place!

A bit of nausea welled up at the idea of having romantic intentions toward the man who was supposed to kill her. "Brother," she said finally, pulling her hands from his grasp, "I have no interest in Caelestis Lancaster anymore. Believe me."

An awkward silence hung between them, both surprised by her blunt declaration.

"What?" he asked, his brows knitting in confusion. "Really?"

"Wait," she interrupted, a thought dawning on her, "which ball are you talking about?"

Her brother's confusion deepened. "Elle, don't you remember? You've been preparing for the Crown Prince's birthday banquet for weeks now." He watched her closely, as if searching for a flicker of recognition. "You've been so excited about it that you've already chosen your dress and accessories. You were heartbroken last night when Caelestis's letter arrived, rejecting your invitation for him to accompany you."

Eleanore took a deep breath, feeling a cold sweat break out on her forehead. Her fingers began to tremble slightly as a familiar blue window materialized in front of her, its glowing letters hauntingly familiar.

Eleanore felt her pulse quicken. Her mind raced as she considered the implications of the quest in front of her. This was a turning point in the story, one that would decide her fate. If she could keep Stella safe, perhaps she could avert her own doom. She needed a plan—something that would keep her alive while preserving Stella's safety.

Turning to her brother, she forced a steady expression. "Brother, I need some time alone." She said,

"But Elle-"

"Please, I just need a moment to organize my thoughts."

He hesitated but ultimately nodded, his concern still evident. "Very well, but if you need anything, I'll be close by." With one last worried glance, he turned and left the room, closing the door quietly behind him.

As soon as he was gone, Eleanore exhaled deeply, her mind spinning. 'With god's grace I have this system,' she thought. 'If it's willing to work with me, I just might be able to rewrite this story and save myself and Caelestis.'

A plan began to form in her mind. She would meet with Stella, apologize, and stay far from Caelestis during the ball. If she could keep things civil, perhaps she could avoid the dark ending that awaited her.
