Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Chunin Exam
"I want a big iron ball, this big!"
"And it'd be better if it has some iron spikes on it for added lethality!"
The pink-haired girl gestured energetically as she described her weapon, causing the bun-haired girl taking notes to feel a chill run down her spine.
If she remembered correctly, this person was supposed to be her teammate's opponent in the next match.
Was this pink-haired girl planning to kill Lee...?
It couldn't possibly go that far, right?!
Lee only liked her; how could she want to kill him~~~
Tenten, drenched in cold sweat, continued to jot down Sakura's weapon specifications in her notebook.
Looking at the details, she couldn't help but fall silent.
Was this thing even usable by a human being?
Two solid iron balls, each with a diameter of 3.5 meters, adorned with multiple spikes for enhanced damage. The two balls were to be linked by a chain made of high-grade steel.
Was this a weapon for fighting humans, or for battling monsters?
Tenten glanced at the pink-haired girl in front of her, who was a year younger than herself.
It was hard to imagine that such slender arms and legs could wield something like this.
"…Um, can I ask something?"
Hesitantly, Tenten met the eager gaze of the girl in front of her.
"Hmm? What is it?"
Sakura tilted her head in confusion, looking at her.
"Sakura, you're not planning to use this... to deal with Lee, are you?"
Tenten felt it necessary to be concerned for her teammate's safety.
If Sakura really could handle a weapon like that, and if Lee were to be hit by it, there was no way he'd survive!
"Uh…"
Sakura looked at Tenten and immediately understood what she meant.
The third stage of the Chūnin Exams was only ten days away.
Now, here she was ordering such a fearsome-sounding weapon.
And her opponent in the third round was indeed Tenten's teammate, Rock Lee. It was reasonable for Tenten to be worried.
"It's not like that. I wouldn't use this weapon against a comrade from the village."
"Don't worry."
Sakura smiled gently, signaling for Tenten to relax.
In truth, Sakura intended to use this weapon in conjunction with the Giant Shuriken Technique, leveraging her monstrous strength to smash through the Sound Four's Four Violet Flames Formation in one strike.
Originally, if Rasa weren't present, she had planned to stay by Hiruzen Sarutobi's side to fight Orochimaru together.
Now that Rasa was involved, breaking the Four Violet Flames Formation directly was necessary. That way, Sarutobi and Jiraiya could gang up on Orochimaru for a decisive beatdown.
Oh, and there was Rasa too.
Rasa... Kakashi should be able to handle him, right?
After all, he's Hatake "50-50"!
"Phew, if that's the case, then I'm relieved."
Tenten patted her chest, breathing a sigh of relief. She had genuinely been worried that her teammate would be flattened by that monstrosity.
"Alright then, that'll be 300,000 ryō in total."
The bun-haired girl gave Sakura a warm and cheerful smile.
So expensive~~~
Reluctantly, Sakura pulled all the cash from her wallet.
Meanwhile, Tenten, her eyes sparkling with the glint of money, cheerfully accepted the payment in full.
"It'll be ready in ten days. At Tenten's Ninja Tools Shop, our prices are fair, and quality is guaranteed."
"Come pick it up at ten in the morning, okay?"
After bidding farewell to Tenten, Sakura gazed wistfully at the ninja tools shop behind her before leaving.
The Four Violet Flames Formation may seem like a lackluster barrier, but its advanced version, the Four Crimson Ray Formation, requires four Kage-level shinobi to execute and can withstand even the Ten-Tails' Tailed Beast Bomb.
If a single Heavenly Obstruction Iron Ball couldn't break through the Four Violet Flames Formation, Sakura was prepared to tear down the entire exam arena, leaving the Sound Four without a foothold and disrupting their balance to break the formation.
Time passed peacefully, like the calm before a storm.
Finally, the last round of the Chūnin Exams officially began.
Amid the fireworks bursting in the sky, this Chūnin Exam, which had drawn the attention of three major nations, commenced.
The dignitaries of the three great nations had all gathered in Konoha, seated in the grandstands.
The venue, capable of holding tens of thousands of spectators, was nearly packed to capacity.
Clearly, this was a rare spectacle in the ninja world.
At the highest platform stood three stone chairs, each engraved with a different kanji representing Fire, Wind, and Earth.
The Hokage sat in the center, flanked by the Kazekage and the Tsuchikage.
Hiruzen Sarutobi gazed calmly at the participants below, his face betraying no emotion.
"I heard Hokage-sama has taken on another talented student."
"Where is she?"
Ōnoki of Both Scales surveyed the participants and spoke.
"A young girl might want to dress up before appearing in front of so many people," Hiruzen replied mildly. The event was heavily guarded, prepared for any emergencies.
"Heh, since when do ninjas concern themselves with such trivialities?"
"Maybe she's afraid of facing my Iwagakure's Kurotsuchi and didn't dare show up," Ōnoki teased, though he knew it was nonsense. He just wanted to stir the pot.
"Tsuchikage-sama, that's quite unfair to say. As Hokage's pupil, why would she be afraid?" Rasa interjected.
"When seniors are talking, juniors should quietly listen," Ōnoki retorted, silencing Rasa.
Rasa's expression darkened, his eyes narrowing at the old man.
If not for the delicate political balance, he'd bury both these old fools in sand.
---
"Sakura! Why aren't you leaving yet?!"
"Isn't your exam today?"
Haruno Meiko, sitting in the living room, called out while watching TV.
If not for Sakura's insistence, she would've already rushed to the Chūnin Exams to watch the matches.
What was the point of sitting at home, watching it on TV?
Sakura stood in front of the mirror, her emerald green eyes taking in her reflection.
Pink ponytail, forehead protector around her neck, a green flak jacket symbolizing her status as a jōnin, black ninja attire underneath, and the signature spiral emblem on her left arm.
Everything was ready. All she needed to do now was head to Tenten's shop to pick up her weapon.
With that thought, Sakura bit her finger and performed the Summoning Jutsu, calling forth a small slug.
"Sakura, do you need something?"
The palm-sized slug looked at the fully geared girl in front of it, ready for battle.
"Lady Katsuyu, please stay at my house for now. If there's any danger, use reverse summoning to summon me back immediately."
Although Katsuyu didn't understand Sakura's reasoning, she gently agreed.
"Don't worry, Sakura."
"Leave everything to me."
