Root Of Life

Chapter 5: First Day In Power Division

In the main ground of the hostels, there were gates for each and every department. Each gate looked like a passage leading into a very dark room. The name of each department was written at the top in different colors, which also represented the color of their uniforms. Cristerfor's department was marked with black.

As soon as a student entered through their respective gate, their uniform automatically changed. Their name appeared on the back of their outfit. The uniform for boys was a coat and pants, while for girls, it was a bodycon with a coat. Each coat had the student's name printed on it.

The main school building was enormous. Cristerfor entered the building, and he was immediately overwhelmed by fear. Everything looked unfamiliar and intimidating. Inside, there were many magical animals locked in cells. These creatures screamed constantly as students walked past them, trying to attack from within their cages. They were displayed like a showcase in the hallway.

Above the creatures, magical photo frames hung on the walls. The pictures moved like video clips, capturing moments of people performing magic, as if frozen in time but alive. There were countless staircases, cleverly designed so that from every level, one could see the hallway of every floor.

In each corner of the hallways, stood giant guards. They were massive, nearly touching the ceiling, and they never spoke to anyone, even if someone teased or provoked them. Their faces were usually hidden in the shadows, adding to their mystery.

Cristerfor stepped into the first-floor hallway. At first, it was so noisy that it was hard to hear anyone speak. But as soon as he entered, everything fell silent. Every creature are silents now and student turned their attention to him. A strange tension filled the air like something is wrong. For their protection some raised their heads, others gathered their strength, and some began to run away.

The guards only moved slightly when a soft sound echoed, like something slipping. Cristerfor kept walking with his head lowered. Every eye in the hallway was on him. As he passed, the magical creatures bowed their heads down, as if he were a king. The silence was heavy, and everyone whispered in confusion.

"Who is he?"

"Is he a teacher?"

"Why are the creatures bowing to him?"

Whispers spread like wildfire, yet no one dared to lift their head.

Then a boy approached him it was Desart, the same one he had met in the hostel. His gang was also there. Desart came closer, observing Cristerfor's clothes. Cristerfor was a little shorter than him.

Desart asked with suspicion, "Who are you?"

Cristerfor stayed quiet.

"Who is your father?" Desart demanded.

"I don't know my parents," Cristerfor replied. "I was raised on the streets."

Desart burst into loud laughter. "Hahaha! He's no king. He's a pig raised by dogs!"

Everyone around laughed with him. Then Desart used magic and struck one of the creature's cells with a powerful beam.

"Get up, you damn beasts! He's not your king! He's just a pig!" he shouted.

As Desart laughed, he pushed Cristerfor.

But the creatures suddenly turned furious. Their eyes blazed with anger. One almost broke through its cell. Just then, a sharp green beam shot from the shadows fired by one of the guards. Only the guard's fingertip was visible. The beam calmed the creature, and the broken cell automatically repaired itself.

Desart grew pale and backed away. "See you at the hostel," he muttered before quickly leaving.

Cristerfor stood there, confused. Suddenly, a girl approached him. She took his hand and turned him around.

"What's your name?" she asked.

She read the name printed on his coat Cristerfor and below it were six colorful beams arranged in a symbol. Each beam represented something unknown.

In this world, when a student entered through their department gate, the gate predicted their future. That prediction, whatever it was, was documented in the legendary book "Nothing Can Be Changed." Each prediction was known to stir controversy and influence the school's history.

But this time, something strange had happened. The prediction wasn't words it was the six colored beams. This had never happened before. Everyone began to pay attention to Cristerfor, including the girl.

She looked at him and asked, "What's your name?"

With a warm smile, she replied, "Oh hi, I'm Cristerfor."

 Her name is cristi nevson.

She continued, "Are you new here? Which window do you belong to?"

In this magical world, "window" was another word for "classroom."

"I don't know," Cristerfor answered. "I'm new here."

"You're new? Let me check," she said, raising her index finger and casting a spell. "Window Splitter!"

A light appeared in front of them, revealing Cristerfor's class: A4033.

Cristi looked at him and said, "There's one good news and one bad news. Which do you want first?"

Cristerfor smiled and said, "I'm always ready for the bad one first."

She hesitated for a moment. "Desart is also in your class."

Cristerfor's smile faded.

He sighed. "So… what's the good news?"

She beamed. "I'm in your class too!"

Though she tried to comfort him, Cristerfor still seemed uneasy. "Come on," she said. "I'll take you to class."

As they walked, she noticed his worried face. "Cristerfor," she said softly.

He didn't respond.

"Cristerfor," she repeated, gently shaking his arm. On the third try, he looked at her.

She smiled and cast another spell. A book appeared in her hands, and she flipped to page 8.

"Look at number 2—that's me," she said proudly. "I'm the second most powerful magician in the Power Division."

"What is this?" Cristerfor asked.

"This is the book of A4033. It contains everything about our window," she replied.

"You didn't know that? You can just use magic to get it!"

"I don't know how to do magic," Cristerfor admitted.

Cristi looked confused for a moment but quickly smiled. "That's okay. You'll learn. I'll give you this book."

She used magic again and handed him a copy. Cristerfor opened it and flipped to the back.

His name was listed at the very bottom.

Desart and his gang were all in the top ten. All of them were together.

There were 4033 students in the class, desart is in top of the list.

Cristi looked at him and said gently, "You don't have to be afraid. I will protect you."

They entered the classroom—called a window in this magical world. It looked like a huge football stadium with seating platforms all around and a wooden roof on top.

Desart, who had feelings for Cristi, became even more furious when he saw her walk in with Cristerfor.

Cristi led Cristerfor to her bench, and they sat together.
