Chapter 47: One Step Closer To The Truth.
He stopped in front of a small café and decided to go inside. He ordered a cup of coffee and sat down at a table by the window.
As he sipped his coffee, Carlson noticed a woman sitting across from him. She was typing away on her laptop, but every so often, she would glance up and catch his eye.
Carlson felt a sense of unease, but he couldn't help but wonder if this woman might know something about his baby's disappearance.
He got up and walked over to her table. "Mind if I join you?" he asked.
The woman looked up, started, and then smiled. "Not at all," she said, gesturing to the empty chair a cross from her. "Please, have a seat."
As they introduced themselves, Carlson learned that the woman's name was Laura Victoria, and she was a manager at Telkom, one of the largest communications companies in the country.
Laura seemed friendly and approachable, but Carlson couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to her than met the eye. He found himself wondering if she might know something about his baby's disappearance.
As they chatted, Carlson tried to steer the conversation towards his baby, but Laura seemed hesitant to discuss the topic. Carlson's curiosity was piqued. What did Laura know, and why wasn't she telling him?
Carlson decided to take a more direct approach." Laura, can I ask you something?" he said, his eyes locking onto hers.
Laura looked up from her laptop, a hint of wariness in her expression. "Of course, Carlson. What is it?"
Carlson took a deep breath. "Iam looking for my baby," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "She disappeared from the hospital a few weeks ago, and I have no idea what happened to her."
Laura's expression changed from wariness to surprise, and then to something that looked almost like guilt?
I am so sorry, Carlson, "Laura said, her voice soft and sympathetic. " I had no idea. But I think I might know something that could help you."
Carlson's heart skipped a beat. " What is it?" he asked, his voice urgent.
Laura hesitated, looking around the coffee shop nervously." I don't think I should say anything more here "she said. " Can we go somewhere more private?"
Carlson nodded, his mind racing with possibilities. What did Laura know, and was it connected to her baby's disappearance?
When Laura and Carlson arrived at the private office, a secure and secluded location that Laura had chosen for their meetings, Laura closed the door behind them and motioned for Carlson to take a seat.
" Okay, Carlson," Laura said, her eyes locked on his. "I need you to give me the names of the people you suspect might be involved in your baby's disappearance.
Carlson hesitated for a moment, collecting his thoughts. "Okay," he said finally. "I suspect my personal driver Samuel, my personal assistant Rayan and my ex-girlfriend stessy."
Laura nodded, her expression serious. I will follow up on their communication records at the telecom center." She said. " I will see if I can find any suspicious patterns or connections."
Carlson's eyes narrowed. " Can you do that without them finding out? He asked.
Laura nodded. "I have access to the telecom center's database," she said. I can do a secret search and get you the information you need."
Carlson felt a surge of hope. Maybe, just may be, they would finally uncover the truth about his baby's disappearance.
"Thank you, Laura," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "I owe you one."
Laura smiled. "You don't owe me anything, Carlson," she said. I am just doing my job.
But I promise you will get to the bottom of this.
After finalizing the plan to track the suspects' communication records, Carlson and Laura prepared to part ways.
" I will get started on this right away," Laura said, gathering her things. "I will be in touch as soon as I find anything."
Carlson nodded, feeling a sense of hope. " Thanks, Laura," he said. I really appreciate your help."
Laura smiled. " No problem, Carlson. I am just glad I can help."
As they walked out of the private office, Laura handed Carlson a small business card.
"Here is my card," she said. "If you need to reach me, just call or text me."
Carlson took the card, tucking it into his pocket. "Thanks," he said.
Laura nodded. "Be careful, Carlson, and don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything."
Carlson nodded, watching as Laura walked away. He felt a sense of gratitude towards her. She was an available ally in his quest for the truth.
As he walked towards his car, Carlson couldn't help but feel a sense of determination. He was going to find out who was behind his baby's disappearance, no matter what it took.
He got into his car and started the engine, his mind racing with possibilities. He was one step closer to the truth, and he was ready to take on whatever came next.
The next day, Carlson's phone rang, shrill in the silence of his living room. He picked it up, glancing at the screen to see his father-in-law's name flashing on the display.
David, "Carlson said, answering the call." How are you?"
"I am worried sick, Carlson," David replied, his voice rigid with anxiety. " I haven't heard from you in days. What's going on with the investigation? Are the police doing their job to find my granddaughter?"
Carlson took a deep breath, trying to reassure David. " I know it feels like nothing on a lead, "he said.
" What kind of leas?" David asked, his curiosity piqued.
Carlson hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But something about David's tone put him at ease. I have been working with a telecom company," he said. "We are tracking some suspicious phone activity that might be connected to the baby's disappearance."
There was a pause at the other end of the line, and for a moment, Carlson wondered if David was still there.
But then David's voice came back on the line, filled with a sense of hope. "That's great news, Carlson, "he said. "I am so glad you are doing something. Keep me posted, okay?".
