Chapter 28: The Truth Unveiled.
Carlson chuckled and sat down beside her, pulling her into a warm embrace. I am glad you enjoyed tonight," he said, his voice filled with love. " You deserve all the happiness in the world."
As they hugged, Rita felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew she had found her soulmate in Carlson, and she was grateful for every moment they shared together.
After a while, they pulled back and looked into each other's eyes. "I think I am ready for bed," Rita said, yawning.
Carlson nodded and stood up, helping Rita to her feet. " Me too," he said, smiling. Let's get some rest."
Hand in hand, they headed to their bedroom, ready to end their wonderful evening and start a new day.
One day, while Rayan, Carlson's personal assistant, was out in the morning jogging, he was noticed by Stessy, Carlson's ex-girlfriend. She was driving by and pulled over, stopping her car as she caught sight of Rayan. She looked at him with a mixture of surprise and curiosity, wondering what he was doing in the area.
Stessy's eyes lingered on Rayan for a moment, her expression unreadable. Rayan, oblivious to her gaze, continued his jog, his feet pounding the pave at a steady rhythm. Stessy's eyes followed him, her mind racing with those of the past.
She hadn't seen Rayan in years, not since her breakup with Carlson. She had often wondered what had become of him. If he was still working for Carlson. And now, here he was jogging through the streets like a ghost from his past.
Stessy's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone buzzing. She glanced down, her eyes scanning the screen before returning to Rayan. She hesitated for a moment, then Stessy pulled over and called out to Rayan, who approached her car with a curious expression. "Hey, stessy! Long time no see!" he said, his friendly demeanor a stark contrast to the awkwardness that suddenly filled the air.
"Rayan, how's Carlson?" Stessy asked, her voice laced with a hint of nervousness.
Ryan's expression turned sympathetic. "He is doing well, Stessy. He is currently married now."
The words hit stessy like a ton of bricks. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out her. " Married?" She repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rayan nodded, his eyes filled with compassion.
"Yes, he and Rita are really happy together."
Stessy's heart sank, her hopes and dreams shattered in an instant. She had always held onto the possibility that Carlson would come looking for her, that he would realize his mistake and want her back. But now, that possibility was gone.
"Oh," she said, her voice cracking. That's great. I am really happy for him."
Ryan's expression softened," stessy, l am so sorry. I know this must be hard for you.'
Stessy forced a smile, trying to hide her devastation. "It's okay, Rayan. I am fine.
Stessy's curiosity got the better of her, and she asked Rayan, "so, who is Rita? How did they meet?"
Rayan hesitated for a moment before responding. " They met at the vintage-themed café, Rita was working there as a waitress and Carlson was the manager. Rita and Carlson struck up a conversation, and well, the rest is history.
Rayan continued, a vintage themed café is Carlson's other business in Gulu city. And that's where he hid himself from you for all these three years. Stessy's eyes widened in disbelief. "A waitress? And now she's his secretary?"
Rayan nodded. " Yes, that's right. Rita is really smart and capable. She quickly proved herself to be an invaluable asset to Carlson's team."
Stessy's head began to ache as she processed this information. She couldn't believe that Carlson had married someone he met at a café, someone who was working as his secretary. It all seemed so ordinary.
Ryan's expression turned gentle as he added, "And there is more good news, stessy, Rita is also well. She is six months pregnant now. So, Carlson's going to be a dad soon!"
Stessy's eyes widened in Shock, her mind reeling from the news. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her "pregnant?" She repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rayan nodded, his smile softening. "Yes, they are both happy about the baby. It's a new chapter in their lives, and they can't wait to meet their little one."
Stessy's head spun as she tried to process this information. Carlson, the man she once loved, was not only married but also having a baby with his wife? It was too much to take in. She felt like her world was crashing down round her.
" I need to go, "stessy stammered, her voice shaking. " Congratulations to them, Rayan, please give them my best wishes."
Ryan's expression turned sympathetic as he nodded "of course, stessy. Take care of yourself.
Stessy asked Rayan for his phone number, trying to sound casual despite her inner turmoil. "Her Rayan, can I get your contact? I would love to stay in touch."
Rayan smiled and rattled off his number, which stessy quickly typed into her phone. " Thanks stessy! It was great catching up with you.
Stessy forced a smile and nodded. "Yeah, same to you, Rayan. Take care."
With that, stessy got into her car and drove away, leaving Rayan and the past behind. But as she drove, the reality of what she had just learned sank in. Carlson was married, having a baby soon, and moving on with his life. She felt a stinging sensation in her eyes as tears began to form.
She pulled over to the side of the road, allowing herself to cry. Heartbreak washed over her like a wave, and she let it consume her for a moment. She thought she had moved on, but this news brought up all sorts of emotions she thought she would lie buried. After a few minutes, stessy took a deep breath and wiped away the tears. She knew she would get through this, but for now, she just needed to process her emotions. She drove home in Silence lost in thought.
