Riches and Bitches: I have a gate to an isekai and leveling-up system!

Chapter 455: It might explode!

The first series Banjay unleashed was that of a complete amateur.

Not only did he allow the barrel to ride up on the recoil, but he also allowed the gun to slide on the smooth stones of the wall's walkway, fucking up any semblance of consistent accuracy that I've set up for him.

Still, that was just his first attempt at shooting the gun, so I could hardly blame him or be hardly surprised about the results.

As for the results, although extremely bad when compared to what he should have been able to do with this gun, they were still solid enough to put all of the ongoing fighting to a stop.

There wasn't a single soul on either side that could refuse the call of the void at a moment when a new, explosive, and extremely lethal force got introduced to their battlefield.

Still, this was all just the result of the first salvo, be it a bloody cut in the forces of the attackers or the silence that followed when Banjay struggled to bring the gun back under his control.

In the end, though, it was the second salvo of the man that managed to catch me by surprise.

'Hmm?'

Banjay pulled the triggers only when he ensured he was now properly braced against the ground. He even made sure Isera's hands were in the right spots to support him in his efforts. And upon unleashing the might of modern military technique upon the poor bastards below, he made sure not to waste the ammunition again by shooting at a spot he had cleared long ago.

Banjay gripped the handles of the gun so hard, that the white of his knuckle-bones appeared from underneath his skin. Yet, for how tense the man himself was… It couldn't compare to the hell he unleashed on the invading force below.

The first shots of his second series were aimed right at the same place as before. And for the second time, all those who either dared to were forced to approach the foot of the massive wall ended up falling prey to the scattered shots from the heavy machine gun.

No armor, no obstacle, no shield, and no helmet could help those poor folks survive the machine-gun fire. Not even the fortifications they established on the approach to the gate could serve as a cover, as with the exception of a huge pile of bricks, the standard high-powered ammunition could cut through wood or thin steel as easily as it did through human flesh.

And this time, Banjay didn't limit his attack to just the foot of the wall.

No, this time, it was merely where he started.

With his position braced and body used to the kick of the recoil, the middle-aged man held the gun firmly, leading it up and following the path of the wall only to then pull the gun to the side, sending a few tens of shots right into where the crowd of the enemies was the thickest.

In reality, the only way to track where the man was shooting was to look out for his victims, all falling prey to the modern weapon as if they were a little more than slightly moving targets.

"It's perfectly okay if you guys don't want to watch it, you know?" I muttered as I turned round to look at Fay first and then turned my eyes over to Claudy when I realized this entire thing, Fay couldn't care less about. Yet, when it came to our imperial friend…

"I'm sorry, but I need a moment," Claudy muttered, his face as stoic as it usually was - with the exception of when he was in the air - and with only a slight twitch in the corner of his eye indicating there was something wrong with him.

"It's fine," I nodded my head and even made the effort to take a step, reach out and pat the man on his shoulder. "No one will think less of you for that."

In this one, rare moment, I genuinely sympathized with the man. He was on the receiving end of this kind of attack, so I could only imagine what was going through his head when he saw it in action once more.

"Alright then, stop," I turned back to Banjay and called out, daring not to approach the active gun directly.

Who knew if, in the heat of the moment, he wouldn't try to do something stupid with the power of a modern weapon firmly in his hands…

"Whoa…" Banjay released a small moan of astonishment as he released the triggers before slowly pulling his hands away from the machine gun's handles.

His face was still, his eyes zeroed in on the smoking-hot weapon. And for the first time, instead of the perfect mask of calm expression, I could see awe and fear dancing in his eyes as he simply couldn't look away from the powerful gun.

"Every shot heats up the barrel here," I explained, pointing my hand over to the corresponding part of the gun. "If you keep spraying and praying, it's only a matter of time before it will explode."

In an instant, everyone jumped away from the gun, taking my words a little bit more seriously than I expected them to.

Surprisingly, though, Fay was among those who retreated, instantly turning her back to the gun while hiding behind my own body and even putting her hands between us, as if to put as much of our own flesh as she could between the potential hazard and the kid inside of her womb.

"Why didn't you tell me that sooner?!" Banjay erupted the very moment he retreated a safe distance from the gun, only to cast sneaky, fearful glances toward it.

"I stopped you before it could happen, didn't I?" I countered, only to shake my head as I moved over to the ammo case and pulled out a fresh barrel from the compartment hidden right by the box's side.

Moving over to the gun, I pressed one of the buttons on its body located in a place one could never reach while behind the gun.

"It might be a killing tool, but it's made to be as safe as it is physically possible," I explained, kicking the used-up barrel aside while I already latched the inner end of the new one onto place before pressing the button again to release the metal mouth that held it in place.

With enough slack, I pushed the barrel down, all the way to the point where the entire thing clicked and the button forcefully released from underneath my finger.

"Now, you can shoot again. This time, however, try to shoot in a short series," I advised. "As in, shoot for a second, give it a second or two of break. Then shoot again and give it some time again. In this way," I smiled, "you won't run out of fresh barrels before using up all the ammunition within the case."

Banjay stared right at my face for a while, before gulping his saliva down and returning to his spot behind the gun.

A glance over his shoulder later, Isera joined behind the man, once again assuming her role of a support-bracer.

"Is there anything else I should know about this... weapon?" Banjay asked, looking up at my face once more.

"Nothing much," I replied while shrugging my shoulders. "Oh, the first case of ammunition is free, for the three others I have on hand, you guys will have to pay."
