Chapter 25: Chapter 25: I’ve been caught!
I struggled to peel my eyes from the photo and locked his heavily darkened gaze.
His eyes only said one thing, he wanted an answer!
No, he wanted more than an answer, like hell he needed a full-blown documentary on the subject and my dear brain happened to leave me hanging.
In fact, I suddenly developed a hiccup and I croaked like a frog. The sharp sound scared the shit out of me and I quickly covered my mouth in shame.
How cornered must I be to revive my childhood habit? This only happened when I was extremely nervous as a child or placed in a mentally draining situation, which by the way happened quite often!
"Have some water" He instructed, his voice still icy despite the hospitable meaning of his words. Come to think of it, why wouldn't he offer me water when he needed my words on this ridiculous issue?!
I gulped down the entire glass and used that split second to think of an excuse but nothing was forthcoming!
The photos clearly captured me coming in and out of Whitemore's Mansion! The only thought that keeps ringing in my head is.
'I've been caught!'
"Speak" He voiced again, the impatience in his tone was undisguised and I placed the cup on the dispenser.
"Mr. Sebastian, I'd like to ask you a question before I explain this photo"
He didn't reply but he didn't object either so I took it as my cue to say "Why were you keeping tabs on me? That goes against our confidentiality guidelines in the contract so why do you feel so bold to stalk, take pictures of me, and openly question me?"
He readjusted his posture by carefully resting his elbows on the desk and placing his chin against his slender fingers.
"Rest assured, I can compensate you for the breach in the contract but whether or not you end up behind bars would depend on your answer… How are you affiliated with the Whitemore family? Are you a spy for them?"
I took a breath of frustration. The first impression he had of me hasn't changed. He still thinks I'm a spy from a rich family. All my efforts are in vain!
I saw it coming from the start that he would keep tabs on me but I didn't think of a counterattack. How foolish!
How do I get out of this mess? I'm not a freaking spy!
I got it!
"Mr. Sebastian, I'm afraid you really crossed the line this time around, I told you I'm not a spy. The reason I was in Whitemore's House is because… I went for a Family dinner!"
His brows furrowed dangerously and I quickly added.
"A dinner with my boyfriend's family!"
I dropped the bomb right off my lips and pinched my side to keep calm. This was the only excuse I could freaking think of!
It's either I claim one of my brothers as my boyfriend or I become the spy of the Whitemore family.
In my opinion, relying on one of the triple threats is my best bet!
[Is this the best you can think of?! I can already see how this ends! - Disastrous ]
"You mean your boyfriend is one of the three sons of the Whitemore family?" He asked with a raised brow and I nodded in response because I feared that if I said a word, laughter would come out instead. The voice in my head was making me have outrageous thoughts!
Surely, I already knew this route would lead to my downfall. None of my brothers are reliable!
"Which one of them?" He suddenly asked.
"What?" I blurted out.
"Which one is your boyfriend?"
Why the hell does he want to know that? I don't even know the answer to that! But I needed to answer.
[I knew things would only get worse]
Can you just help me out? Even if it's just once, try to be useful!
[Fine, Basil is your best bet. He's anti-social so there shouldn't be many rumors about his love life]
Right!
"My boyfriend is the third son, Basil Whitemore"
It felt like my mouth burned after saying these words but I had to flash a blissful smile nonetheless and Sebastian finally let it go.
"It seems I was wrong, The fine attached to the breach of confidentiality will be sent to you tomorrow morning. You may leave now"
Not even a word of apology! I didn't stick around and exited the room, the rest of my shift went well with Suzy, some time later she had a hair appointment and I left but I wasn't heading home.
Not even close, I was headed to my soon-to-be second job.
This is absurd, I know but from the explanation of the spokesman, I wasn't given much of a choice! Plus, I could use a couple of millions!
Fine, I'll just treat this job as my retirement plan, I'll save up this money for when I successfully escape The Whitemore's' , that's a pretty good idea.
"Can I see your pass?" The person at the huge gate inquired and I quickly fetched the card I was given.
I was allowed in and can I just take a moment to bask in the glorious structure of this castle-like existence of a building?! Truly befitting of a princess.
The butler that ushered me in disappeared, leaving me alone in my majestic surroundings.
One glance and I could tell the owner of this place was an art lover. I couldn't count the amount of paintings and antiques my eyes caught lying around.
"Just a little peek," I told myself and ventured into sightseeing while killing my waiting time.
From looking to touching, from touching to feeling and holding, I was engrossed in my new found addiction that a voice from behind scared the shit from me!
"Are you a thief?"
Why did that sound awfully familiar?! I turned around and my gaze settled on a little girl with an attitude problem. For a hot second I was reminded of the crossroad guy. That's crazy!
"How are you? -"
"You didn't answer me. Are you a thief?!" I was taken aback for a moment. What about me gave off the impression of a thief? Do I need to get myself checked?
"I'm not a thief, I was looking at the paintings because I liked it, that's all" I said in resignation and she finally relaxed.
"Then you must be my new nanny"
Nanny sounds a little too serious, I think the caregiver works fine in my opinion.
"Yes, I'm you're new nanny" I breathed with a smile and she suddenly stretched out her right leg.
"I've been trying to lace these shoes but I can't seem to get it right, I think the lace is broken"
I chuckled slightly and lowered myself to help her out but I only began when my shoulder was suddenly pushed. I almost landed on my butt while Princess Isla was pulled away.
"Get away from my daughter!" A woman's loud voice intruded my ears while I struggled to stand to my full height.
I finally stared the lady in the eye but I didn't expect her reaction. She looked beyond terrified to see me, to the extent she staggered and almost tripped herself.
"You!…Daisy! How?!" She shouted with a pointed finger and I calmly replied.
"My name is Lyla, I'm Princess Isla's new nanny"
At that moment my phone rang a message. I should've ignored it given the situation but I never get a message so it must be super important.
I pulled out my phone and indeed it was from the maid I blackmailed with her secret relationship. She was proving herself useful.
I tapped the message and my frame froze. Whatever the yelling lady was saying faded into the background. A bigger and more deadly issue was staring me right in the f*cking face! The text read,
(Sir Regulus is back! Also, There's going to be a family dinner this evening. The Spencer family was invited, I overheard the maids close to Miss Carla say that tonight was going to make their relationship official between both families. You should hurry back)
[This is bad. This is really bad!]
