Revenge Heiress: Bow To My Reborn

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: A contract

I do, I deserve this much for letting myself drown in spite.

Fine, my health decline is on House Whitemore but I had a hand to play too. I can't erase the memories of me starving myself and hoping I'd die or faint and maybe then I'll get my Father's attention.

Harry was right, I wanted validation so bad, to the extent that putting my life at risk didn't seem like a bad idea. If I reported the maid's attics would things be different now?

If I had reported to Regulus how they used my stomach as a test for poisons and antidote, could the result in my hands have been avoided?

Maybe, just maybe if I didn't wallow in pain all night while hoping someone would knock on the door and find me. If I had told Frederick or even Harry about it, would the outcome have been different?

A drop of tears fell on the results and only then did I realize I was crying.

"Are you okay miss? Your situation isn't that bad. You have gastritis, as it is now, your case isn't chronic so we can provide you with the appropriate treatment for full recovery"

As a matter of fact, a bright smile suddenly appeared on my lips. Before I was reborn it would've been a miracle to catch a smile on my cheeks but now I smile at the little things that make my heart beat.

It feels good to move my face now that I'm not a vegetable but the doctor had no idea of the thought going on in my head, but from his expression, I could guess he's probably thinking of running a brain scan again. He must think I'm crazy! After all, it's not every day you see a patient who got diagnosed with gastritis smile so brightly.

"I'm okay, Doctor" I stated to dispel his imagination. "… I'm just happy"

"You're happy you have gastritis? Don't take this the wrong way but have you been psychologically tested? I noticed you didn't fill in a last name in the form and honestly, I shouldn't be speaking to you without a guardian because you're underage, I'm doing this because of George"

That's right, I'm happy I have gastritis, I was expecting a terminal disease with few months left to live so this is wonderful news! As for my name…

"I told you I'm an orphan, I have no one"

Our midst fell silent and I heard him mumble "There's still protocols for orphans"

I know he's only helping me because of George, my senior in school, although he's abroad now, he sometimes calls so I just had to ask him for this favor. I can't keep waiting till I clock eighteen to know the state of my health!

Who knows? I might not even be alive to see the results.

"Thank you" I made a slight bow and left, I looked down at myself and noticed I was still dressed up for the dinner.

Speaking of that godforsaken dinner, I thought no family had it worse than Whitemore but I was greatly mistaken.

So it seems me and Sebastian are caught in a similar situation. I don't know the details but he fervently refuses that marriage alliance.

What could be the reason though?

Aren't all wealthy marriages already arranged? Surely he must be aware of that yet, he's adamant, why?

He doesn't even strike me as the type to wait for true love.

Oh shit! What if it's because of his dead ex?

I quickly brought out my phone to make some adjustments to my plans. Now that I know his ex was a very sweet summer child, I have to shift my attitude toward that, also I need to cry more in front of him, and uhm… oh yes! Helen called her a name, what was it?

[Little Flower!]

I think I'm starting to see the use of you. Little Flower… does this mean she was petite as well? Probably but why do I feel like something is missing? I just can't place my finger on it!

"Miss! Miss!"

I turned around and saw a nurse running towards me. "You forgot to sign you r consent form, please follow me"

I felt lightheaded as I walked behind her and reached her office.

"Just sign here and here" She gestured and I didn't think twice before inscribing my initials.

"Thank you, you may leave now"

I wonder what drama awaits me at home tonight, I'm coming home at the latest tonight and all dressed up even.

Would Sir Regulus flare up like a raging bull?

Would I throw my result in their faces and yell out my frustration for all the negligence I've had to suffer?

To my surprise, none of that happened, when I arrived home I discovered Regulus was out on a business trip so that meant no one else was around, well, except for…

"You must be having a blast going out dressed like that and coming home so late!" Carla's voice intruded my ears and destroyed my moment of peace and quiet.

It's not like I couldn't walk away but by habitual instinct I found my feet stopping as she sashayed towards me with a mocking smile tugging her lips.

"Why are you so bothered? In a little while I'd be out of your skin to be married off, can't you just ignore me till then?"

Her smirk only broadened at my words and she tilted her head to say "Even if you leave in an hour, that's just another hour for me to torment you! Three months is far too much, don't you agree?"

A scoff escaped my lips involuntarily. What was I expecting from a sociopath? Carla would never let me off easily even if I grovel and beg!

Then she leaves me no choice but to bring out the big guns!

"I know it all" I stated with unbelievable certainty.

"What?" Her brows cocked in curiosity. Exactly the face she needed to have while I lean closer to her ear and whisper.

"I know that you're Mr. Mallow's real bride and I'm just a substitute" I retracted to see horror clearly written on her face.

"You! -"

"I already agreed, didn't I? So refrain from getting on my nerves during this period, who knows? The table might just turn for your worst" I smiled and walked away leaving her stupefied face behind.

It feels nice to sleep and wake up knowing I don't have a terminal disease.

It was morning and I needed to get ready to head to Sebastian's House for the second phase of my plan.

Just then, my phone rang, it was an unknown caller.

"Hello?" I replied skeptically. Could it be the wrong number? I really don't know many people.

"Are you Lyla?"

Now I was even more worried. "…Yes"

"We need to have a meeting, will this morning be convenient for you?"

Huh? What the hell is going on? "I'm sorry, what's this about? Who are you?"

"Oh, my bad" the male voice apologized "Last night you signed a contract, correct?"

What in the world? When did I sign a contract. I only remember… "I signed a consent form" I affirmed.

"Well, there's been a mistake. You signed a contract to be Princess Isla's babysitter"

[What in the freaking world is he talking about?!]
