Chapter 62: Chapter 62: The First Night
Surprisingly, the water level inside the cabin was shallow, only reaching Caleb's knees...
He rolled up his pants to his thighs and began searching for edible supplies.
Dragonite followed behind him, curiously looking around at their surroundings.
Caleb's luck was good. Just as he turned a corner, he spotted several vacuum-sealed bags of cheese crackers floating toward him on the water's surface.
Along with them came a cast-iron pot. He reached out and grabbed the pot, placing the bags of crackers inside.
After wading through the cabin for a while, the pot gradually filled with food; eight waterlogged potatoes, three unopened packs of ramen, two crates of canned malt beer, a few sandwiches in sealed bags, and an unopened jar of fermented bean paste.
Aside from these, he also found several sacks of soaked rice and flour in the storage room, along with a few crates of swollen waterlogged berries.
Looking at this chaotic assortment, Caleb suddenly felt like he had transmigrated into Robinson Crusoe...
So, was he supposed to hunt, build a house, farm, and then find a wild man to name Friday?
Caleb and Dragonite stood in the cabin, staring at each other with the iron pot between them.
Outside, the sky was growing dark. He needed to find a safe place to sleep, and soon. Frankly, the shipwreck didn't seem like a bad option.
He handed the pot to Dragonite and headed to the passenger cabins, lifting waterlogged beds out of the water.
Stacking two beds together, he created a makeshift resting spot.
Dragonite sighed softly while cradling the pot.
The two were so busy, that they didn't notice a dark streak of light flashing across the night sky outside...
....
Meanwhile, the other six players had found an open clearing to set up camp...
Though they had been ambushed by a swarm of Ekans on the way, they managed to fend them off without major incident, thanks to their battle experience.
Drake's Pokémon was a Bisharp, a Dark/Steel-type. While directing it to chop wood for a makeshift cabin, he ordered Tristan to gather dry grass, branches, and leaves for the roof.
With the combined effort of all six trainers and their Pokémon, a crude wooden hut was quickly assembled.
By then, night had fully fallen...
Hayate returned from the forest with an armful of dry firewood and commanded his Magmar to ignite it with a spark.
As the wood crackled and burned, the six exhausted players gathered around the campfire.
Once things settled, Luna's stomach let out a loud growl. Her beautiful face flushed with embarrassment, "Sorry, I didn't eat before entering the Instance..."
Drake frowned, glancing at the oppressive darkness surrounding them, "Alright, let's split into pairs to search for food. I saw a berry tree earlier, we can use those to fill our stomachs tonight. We'll figure out the rest tomorrow at dawn. Let's move!"
The moment he finished speaking, deafening roars erupted from deep within the forest, startling flocks of birds into flight and even causing the ground to tremble slightly.
"Wait… why are there two moons tonight?" Luna looked up in confusion.
The others immediately followed her gaze...
Across the fire, Walter's face paled as he saw it clearly under the firelight... those weren't moons. They were the eyes of a massive creature.
"Lulu! RUN!" he screamed.
A wave of icy air rushed from behind Luna, freezing her in place. The next second, two enormous jagged tusks emerged on either side of her.
The campfire's glow partially illuminated the colossal creature's form.
When Drake saw it clearly, his expression twisted in shock, "Why is there a Dynamaxed Mamoswine here?!"
Dynamax Pokémon were supposed to be exclusive to the Galar region...
...
Back in the shipwreck, Caleb and Dragonite had already finished dinner...
Since this Instance had no clear time limit for the main quest, he had no idea how long he would be stuck here.
To be safe, he decided to haul out the soaked sacks of rice tomorrow and dry them in the sun for future meals. The fermented bean paste would make a decent side dish.
The island's temperature dropped drastically at night. Without a blanket, Caleb could only huddle pitifully with Dragonite for warmth.
Just then, he felt the cabin tremble slightly. Before he could react, a strange noise echoed from outside.
"What was that?" he sat up halfway, straining his ears.
Dragonite's eyes snapped open, its brow furrowing as it listened intently.
Soon, the loud cry sounded again, clearly coming from the forest...
'See? I knew the forest was more dangerous than the beach!'
Caleb relaxed slightly, and was about to lie back down when a massive wave suddenly surged toward the ship.
"Crap! My pot!" His eyes widened in alarm.
He immediately flipped over, shielding the precious iron pot with his body.
The next second, the raging waves tore the ship free from the crevice between the reefs, dragging it into the open sea.
Seawater violently flooded Caleb's ears, instantly muting all sound, as if the world had been put on silent mode.
Dragonite clenched its jaws, determination flashing in its eyes as it tightly gripped its trainer.
With a single Hyper Beam, it blasted a massive hole through the rapidly sinking ship and swam out.
*Splash!*
Caleb surfaced, gasping for air with the pot of food still clutched in his arms. His chest heaved violently.
"Are you okay?" He turned to Dragonite.
"Wuu…" Dragonite frowned, its eyes full of concern.
"I'm fine too, don't worry!" Caleb clung to Dragonite's arm, but as he looked up, a sense of unease gripped him.
'Where's the moon?!'
The huge glowing moon, why had it suddenly vanished?!
"Wuu..." Dragonite let out a soft cry, pointing.
Caleb followed its gaze...
A colossal shadow loomed over the sea, blotting out the moonlight. Then, the shadow moved.
The sheer force of its motion sent towering waves crashing toward them.
"Wuuu!"
Dragonite cried out in alarm, its wings beating rapidly to stabilize itself midair as it carried Caleb to safety.
Under the moonlight, the shadow's outline became clear.
It was a Pokémon over a hundred feet tall. It had a long slender neck and a shell-covered back.
Around its body floated glowing white lines like musical staves that were dotted with shimmering ice crystals that glinted sharply under the moonlight.
Caleb's mind went blank...
'Isn't that a Gigantamax Lapras?! Why is it here?! Is this island actually in the Galar region?!'
