Chapter 437: Mana Sight
Having been blasted and losing his reputation in front of Carmen, Zhao Kai clenched his fist.
If he failed to make an argument, then his position as Guild Commander might be demoted to Guild Captain.
"Then what about you, Guild Leader? You're a healer and can't do much in combat aside from buffing. Aren't you ashamed of yourself as well?" Zhao Kai rebuked, trying to push Xu Feng into the same category as him.
However, he was shut down almost instantaneously and Xu Feng's words made him regret everything.
"I'm the Raid Leader here, so naturally we can't be the same." Xu Feng shrugged.
"I have to plan everything and set up the foundation while you fool around. Can the same be said for me?"
"Agreed, Guild Leader worked hard." Carmen nodded, unaware that her words were equivalent to bullets that pierced through every organ of Zhao Kai.
Defeated and deflated like a balloon that had been popped by a needle, Zhao Kai no longer dared to speak up, afraid that Xu Feng might find more things to blast him with.
Though his sulking behavior didn't delay their journey one bit as they arrived at an almost flat land.
When Xu Feng halted his steps, the people who were following behind in an organized line also stopped in place, confused by the sudden pause.
"Um, did you feel unwell, Guild Leader?" Carmen asked in concern.
"I have a few remedies here that could help you if you need them." Vortex Viper offered up the items she gained from helping some of the NPCs within the beginner town.
Although she knew he probably had it anyway, it was the gesture that counted and truth be told, Vortex Viper didn't want to idle around. She might have been invited by Carmen, but being a freeloader wasn't her personality.
"Uh, thanks but no need." Xu Feng chuckled softly, amused by their response.
Did he really look like someone who was tired and needed rest by stopping?
"If you're not unwell, then why did we stop in this flat land?" Carmen knitted her brows. From her Void Grip skills, she didn't detect any monsters nearby, much less anything of significance.
She even had her map opened in case she missed something, but there was no indication of any sort.
Not to mention Carmen, the others were equally confused by the sudden pause.
"Did something happen to Guild Leader Lin Feng?" Blake raised an eyebrow.
"No, I doubt Guild Leader Lin Feng would be distracted at this time." Gentle Wind shook her head.
"The stream is ongoing, but even the cameraman is clueless." Iceheart suddenly chimed in, her slender finger pointing at OneManMedia.
Currently, OneManMedia was hit with a daze, clueless about the situation, especially when he was being bombarded by the comment sections. The viewers were already holding a grudge from his previous excuse to not stream Carmen, and now he even stopped making a commentary.
Who wouldn't riot at that point?
Unable to bear the bullet comments shooting his screen faster than the speed of light, OneManMedia gnashed his teeth and rushed toward Xu Feng.
"Guild Leader, is there some reason why we're pausing in the middle of the flatland?" OneManMedia smiled awkwardly. "Our viewers are dying from curiosity, with some even threatening to not drop any more Castle's gifts any longer."
"Haha, fret not, viewers. Vanguard is anything but a scammer guild." Xu Feng chuckled, interacting briefly with his audience as he surveyed the flat, barren land before him.
The sun hung low in the sky as it cast long, stretching shadows across the terrain. Sparse vegetation dotted the area, and the dry, cracked ground showed faint signs of wear.
However, amongst them, there were a few nearly invisible carvings etched into the earth, waiting for the perfect moment. Unless one paid close attention to them, it was easy for them to miss it.
As the sunlight dipped, it struck a specific section of the ground, illuminating a faded but intricate sigil that had been hidden in plain sight.
Of course, none of the people around Xu Feng detected the changes aside from him.
And no, it wasn't that their eyesight was bad, but merely the fact that they didn't know how to increase their perceptions using Mana Sight---another technique that one could learn if they had a manual similar to his Phantom Step.
"The time is ripe." He muttered, and under the watchful gazes of many, he stepped forward.
He positioned himself so that his shadow perfectly aligned with the glowing sigil which only he was able to perceive at the moment due to Mana Sight.
Shortly after, he raised his hand, channeling mana into his staff and guiding the sunlight's fading path with precision. Tracing the beams with a controlled gesture, he directed his mana into the pattern, creating a false sensation that the light was being drawn into the earth itself.
A few seconds later, a deep, resonant hum was omitted from the ground, followed by a subtle vibration as the hidden mechanism came to life.
"T-The land is shaking?" OneManMedia's mouth was left agape at the sudden change.
"Step back a little, OneManMedia." Carmen suddenly warned, her appearance instantly caused a riot among the viewers, simping and gasping for her close shot.
Little did these viewers know, she was instructed to distract them while Xu Feng secretly controlled a few more actions to open up the hidden large-scale dungeon.
Her decoy was nearly perception, with only a few individuals who wanted to glance at what Xu Feng was doing, but the dust created by the sudden change made it difficult for them to spot anything noticeable.
Meanwhile, Xu Feng breathed a sigh of relief as the carved sigil absorbed the mana like a key fitting into a lock, and the earth beneath them began to tremble.
Slowly, the flat surface split apart, revealing a descending stone staircase shrouded in darkness—a concealed entrance that only revealed itself under these exact conditions.
"Now, may I introduce you all to the dungeon that we will be raiding, the Fortress of the Fallen!" Xu Feng declared, his voice carrying an air of authority as the wind subtly fluttered his cloak.
