Chapter 92: Between Truth and Manipulation [92]
Smallville Police Station
The cold wind of Smallville blew strongly, kicking up dust in the empty parking lot of the police station. Kyla and Chloe stepped out through the heavy door, their footsteps echoing on the concrete. Chloe adjusted her bag on her shoulder, looking at the ground with her mind in turmoil. Kyla, beside her, seemed distant, her face marked by worry.
Vruuum.
The sound of a truck engine caught the attention of the two. Chloe raised her head, recognizing the vehicle before it even stopped. Her heart tightened as she saw Clark getting out of the car, his figure as familiar as it was disconcerting. Right behind him, Diana stepped out with the grace of a warrior, her hair tossed back by the wind.
Kyla stopped instantly, unable to look away. The world seemed to slow down. 'Who is he?' Every movement Clark made seemed like a living painting, the way he closed the car door, adjusted his jacket, and walked calmly toward the entrance.
Chloe glanced briefly at Diana and felt her discomfort grow. Being next to Clark was one thing, but with Diana there, everything seemed more intense. She tried to maintain her composure, but Diana's calm gaze made her feel small.
Clark stopped in front of them, his gentle smile lighting up his face.
"Chloe. Looks like you started investigating before me."
Chloe looked away, trying to ignore Diana's presence. "Yeah. Ethan isn't exactly cooperating."
Kyla remained silent, her hands gripping her bag tightly. Her heart was racing, every word Clark spoke seemed to resonate more than it should.
'He's... perfect.'
Diana tilted her head slightly, her eyes calmly assessing Chloe and Kyla. "I hope he was at least polite."
Chloe stammered for a moment, disconcerted by Diana's casual tone. "Well... he wasn't exactly gentle."
Clark, sensing the tension, stepped forward. He leaned slightly toward Chloe, gently holding her chin, and before she could react, his lips touched hers.
The kiss was quick, but enough to make Chloe freeze in place. She pulled away, her cheeks burning intensely.
"Clark! What are you doing?"
Clark just smiled, as if nothing were out of the ordinary. He turned to Diana and repeated the gesture, this time with even more ease. Diana accepted the kiss without hesitation, as if it were routine.
Kyla held her breath. The shock left her motionless, her eyes wide as she watched the scene. 'He kissed... both of them?'
Chloe covered her mouth with her hand, her face still burning with embarrassment. "You're impossible, Clark."
Diana looked at her with a small smile. "It's no big deal, Chloe. Don't let it distract you."
Clark adjusted his jacket, looking at the three women with serenity. "I'll talk to Ethan. You stay here. Try to get to know each other better."
He walked into the police station, leaving an awkward silence in the air. Kyla looked at Diana and Chloe, still processing what had just happened. 'He left these two together... why?'
Diana crossed her arms, calmly observing Chloe. "Seems like he enjoys testing your limits."
Chloe shook her head, still embarrassed. "I just... didn't expect him to do that in front of you."
Diana shrugged. "I don't mind. There are more important things right now."
Kyla finally found her voice. "Sorry... but you two... who exactly are you to him?"
Diana looked at Kyla, studying her for a moment before answering. "We're his women. Both of us."
Kyla felt the ground disappear for a moment. 'His women? What does that mean?'
Chloe's eyes widened, her voice nervous. "Well, I... I'm his lover, but... it's not exactly what it seems."
Diana raised an eyebrow, as if Chloe's explanation were unnecessary. "You overcomplicate things, Chloe. It's simple: Clark is Clark. And we're with him."
Kyla looked away, her thoughts confused. 'How can they accept this so easily? And why does it bother me so much?'
She took a deep breath, trying to sort out her emotions. "He seems... special. I've never seen anyone like him."
Diana smiled slightly, tilting her head. "He is special. But don't get caught up in that. What matters now is what's happening with your grandfather."
Chloe crossed her arms, finally regaining some of her composure. "Diana's right. We need to figure out what's going on here. Clark might be... intense, but he knows what he's doing."
Kyla looked at both of them, trying to understand the strange dynamic between them. 'These two are completely different. But somehow, he seems to be the common thread.'
Diana looked toward the police station door, her expression serious. "Let's wait for Clark to finish. After that, we can decide the next step."
Kyla nodded slowly, still processing what she had just witnessed. 'Maybe I'm in something much bigger than I thought.' She looked at Chloe, who seemed equally uncomfortable, and at Diana, who seemed completely at ease.
The wind blew again, carrying leaves around as the three waited in silence.

Ethan's Office
Ethan was sitting in his chair, elbows on the desk, his hands rubbing his face forcefully. His mind was overwhelmed by the pressures of the case, Lionel's insistence, and the shadow of his own choices.
'What am I doing? This isn't justice, it's fear.' The air in the room seemed heavier with each passing second.
The firm sound of footsteps in the hallway brought him back to reality. He looked up at the door, which slowly opened. Clark entered, his expression calm, but with a presence that seemed to fill the room.
"Ethan."
"Kent, what do you want now? I don't have time for sermons."
Clark took a few steps forward, stopping right in the center of the room. His eyes fixed on Ethan's, with an intensity that made the sheriff lean back slightly in his chair.
"I'm not here to argue, Ethan. I'm here to help you do the right thing."
Ethan scoffed, crossing his arms. "The right thing? Do you know how many complicated decisions I have to make every day, Kent? It's not as simple as it seems."
Clark gave a slight smile, tilting his head. "But it can be. If you just trust me."
Clark's eyes glowed for a moment, and Ethan felt something shift. A strange calm washed over him, as if his worries had been momentarily erased.
"You're going to release Joseph Willowbrook. There's no evidence against him, and keeping him here only serves the interests of those trying to cover up the truth."
Ethan blinked, confused, but Clark's words seemed unquestionable. "Release Joseph? But... what about Lionel?"
"Don't worry about Lionel. He can't control you. From now on, you'll let Diana and Chloe investigate whatever they need without interference. And, more importantly, you'll obey my orders, Ethan. Always."
Ethan nodded slowly, as if Clark's words were the only truth in the world. "Understood, Kent. Joseph will be released. Diana and Chloe have free rein."
Clark stepped back slightly, the glow in his eyes fading. "Good. Now let's go to the cells."
Ethan stood up, his movements almost mechanical. "This way."

Joseph's Cell
The hallways of the police station were silent, except for the firm footsteps of Clark and Ethan. The sheriff stopped in front of the cell, grabbing the keys with an automatic gesture. Joseph was sitting on the bench, his serene gaze fixed on the floor.
"Joseph Willowbrook, you're being released due to lack of evidence."
Joseph slowly looked up, his eyes studying Ethan and then Clark, who stood just behind. "Released? Why?"
Ethan unlocked the cell, pushing the door open with a metallic creak. "There's not enough evidence to keep you here. You're a free man."
Joseph stepped out of the cell with calm steps, but his eyes remained fixed on Clark. Something about the young man seemed... different. "And you, who are you?"
Clark extended his hand, a calm smile on his lips. "Clark Kent. Just someone who believes the truth should prevail."
Joseph shook Clark's hand, feeling an unusual energy in that simple gesture. 'He has something... something beyond what I can understand.'
"I don't know what you did, but thank you, Clark Kent."
Clark shook his head slightly. "No need to thank me. Just take care of your granddaughter. She needs you more than you realize."
Joseph frowned but said nothing. He knew there was more to those words than met the eye.
Ethan, still standing to the side, watched the scene with a calm that seemed artificial. "Everything settled, Kent?"
Clark took a step back, looking at Ethan with approval. "For now, yes. Just keep doing as instructed."
Ethan nodded. "Understood."
Clark turned to Joseph, his eyes firm. "Now go home. And stay out of trouble. There's still a lot to be done."
Joseph didn't respond, just nodded and walked slowly down the hallway, as if carrying more than just his newfound freedom.
