Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Never do that again.
The red sun rose. Handeron was quick to notice his sudden loss of energy. He could also felt like he was ill, the weakness started to catch up to him. His body became heavier, his eyelids could close at any moment. He knew that if he closes his eyes, he will lose. He wouldn't be standing if it weren't for his gauntlets, though.
- Woah, you are still standing? Great, seems like I need to put you down.
His opponent then dashed towards him, and with a barrage of attacks, sent Handeron across the empty floor. Not soon after it, chains started to dance around his body, weakening him even more.
Handeron was near losing his consciousness, and that would be an instant defeat. The sun was a big problem, but still, even against all those odds, he teared down the chains that were subdueing him and quickly dashed to dodge.
You need to close the distance as fast as possible, only 30 seconds left.
- Yeah, I know.
He started moving towards the ball, but was interrupted by his opponent, that appeared almost instantly near him. He tried blocking, but was once again sent flying.
[Seems like this will be a loss, but maybe, even if there is a small chance of this happening.. hm.. he is at 45%.. it's high, but could he... no, he grew as much as he could... or maybe? He needs to try at least.]
This time Handeron was standing, and was able to block incoming chains, but more problems were on the way. His opponent didn't really care about the crystal anymore, as it was left behind, and wanted an exchange of blows. Handeron was fast to notice, but there wasn't any moment for him to make a run to break the crystal. They started attacking eachother, but his opponent was definitely faster, hit stronger, and wasn't budged by Handeron's hits. As the exchange of blows was happening, Handeron was being damaged more and more, when he heard the last message.
Truly, you were a disappointmemt.
- Huh?
I thought I finally found a host good enough, it was 2000 years since I had one with such potential... No, you even have higher, but you are not what I was looking for...
- What? We didn't lose, there is still chan-..
Give up.
Handeron at these words felt... weird. When he lost he could always tell himself that he really gave his all, that he had done everything he could to win. But now? Now he is being told that he wasn't good enough. He was the cause. The power he was given was a letdown? No. The opponent was too strong? Nope. It was his fault. It hit him, that even though this guy is supposed to be the one that is resilient, told him to give up.
He was being hit countless times now. His opponent face was very brightly smiling, but he caught up to the situation. Handeron didn't defend. He was just being hit, more and more. As his opponent was considering stopping his attacks. he realized that it didn't matter for him. He was content with that fight. At least until that point...
[Am I, not good enough? What did I do wrong? I tried, I really did, but it wasn't enough?...]
He was sad. He didn't really let his emotions take control, but it struck him now. It was even stronger than hits taken from his opponent. He was outmatched... wait... outmatched? His opponent was stronger? By how much? How much would he need to get stronger to actually match him?
***
This world is all about the weapons and your potential with them. If you bring more out of your weapon, then the stronger you are. At this moment, you are about
40%. That is a small number now, maybe. But if you were to train, you could easily reach the 80%, no... even 85% mark. And don't even think that you are weak now. 40% for somebody that just equipped his weapon, is a prodigy level material. Remember, I am tenacity, resilience. I am not giving up, and so, didn't you, and I know that you won't still... Now, go and win!
***
As he the barrage of attack continued, Handeron didn't even keep his guard up. He was just standing there.
His opponemt kept his attacks at the same level.
But Handeron had only one thought on his mind.
[Haha, I understand now, I figured it out!]
Handeron quickly put his guard up. As his opponents attack were coming, he diverted them as quickly as he could, leaned to the side and hit him with all of his power.
- Augh! You...
He couldn't countinue, because there were more attacks coming. But that didn't mean he couldn't fight back. As they exchanged blows, nobody cared about defence. All that was was to take your opponent down, amd they focused solely on that. Handeron was a little behind, but that didn't matter.
As his opponent found an opening, the decesive blow was hit. A crucial hit to the right side of stomach. Handeron didn't resist, he couldn't. He was out of stamina once more....
- Brat... You.. were the best.... opponent... I ever had... in this kind of fight. You were truly, the best. I owe you one for that.
His opponent was smiling from ear to ear. His chains were slowly patching him up. He then turned around and slowly went the other way.
- Now, now... 15 seconds left, woah, that last exchange really felt like it stopped time. It's probably gonna be real pain to recover from that attacking without a host, but-...
As he said that, he sensed something. His opponent was still conscious. After all that. As he turned around, resdy for more, he saw Handeron standing. Standing as strong as ever.
- Never do that again.
I won't.
- Now, what should I do?
Just say it.
- Got it.
He put his right arm up, and he squeezed his hand like he wanted to catch a star. He then bringed it closer, his hand at the level of his shoulder and shouted:
- Last Stand!
He then started emitting a strong aura, like his power was at maximum output. He then rushed towards his opponent, and started hitting him. It sure was fast, because he was faster than his opponents block. He started to absolutely demolish his opponent, but he didn't fall. Instead, he found an opening, and took his chance to counter.
Dodge! One hit and you are out.
- Got it!
He dodged every counter that was aimed at him, still hitting back to back. His opponent didn't seem like he was totally weaker, but the chance of winning were now on Handeron's side.
5 seconds, kid, just go for the crystal!
- Not yet!
Kid, come on, just...
- I know what I am doing!
Handeron's attack were heavy, so heavy that his opponent started using chains to block. Handeron then used that to his advantage, fixed his pose and aimed to finish it.
His lower back turned 90⁰ sideways, with his left leg a little closer to the enemy than his right. He untwisted his spine, and thus, final punch was heading for his opponent.
- Crap!
His opponent in the last act of defence made a wall out of his chains and crossed his arms to take that hit.
But it never reached it's recipent...
As Handeron faked that last hit, he rushed towards the crystal. His opponent couldn't catch up to him, his chains were used as a wall, but they still tried to get him. The crystal was near, so near.
You are too far away.
- I'm not!
You are.
- Shut it.
The crystal wasn't that far away. Even so, only a second remained. It sure was a loss of a man who tried till his end...
And even tried beyond it! As Handeron took off one of his Gauntlets, as the finale, he threw it straight into the crystals' center. It crushed beautifully, a red light could be seen coming out of it.
Handeron felt relieved, as he knew he did it.
As the construct was gone, and he came back to reality, he saw the chains from earlier falling apart, and the last link of the chain, a little broken, sitting in the same place. Soon enough, a familiar face came.
- Hey, you good?
As Handeron saw him, he smiled a little. His pierced earlier body was slowly patching itself up, due to regeneration.
- Yeah, I think.
He then fell on the floor face front, and passed out.
***
Monadias took care of everything. He made a fireplace inside the room the link of the chain was, and found some ducks at a nearby lake to cook. They would be useful, if he, of course, knew how to cook. As he realized that leaving the cooking to him isn't the best idea, he decided to find something else to eat. He found some rather unusual fact, stuff here is the same as in their original world, just in different colours, like orange blueberries. Good thing Irse was with him, because he would sure pass up on them.
The room that Handeron fought earlier had a big hole on the top, and up there was the entrance to the mountain. When Monadias was flying towards the loud noise, that the gauntlets made, he chose left, while the entrance was on the right. The entrance had a tunnel, the one that was going for the top of the mountain, and a hole, which led to this room. As Monadias was back, he sat next to Handeron, that was still unconscious, lying against a wall.
[Do you know who is that?]
Monadias looked at the link of chain. He knew that it was indeed a weapon. A strong one at that. It would be good to know what even was it.
Yeah, he is a rival. An old one at that.
[Oh, and how that came to be?]
That's a long story.
[Yep, I won't be remembering any of it, so you don't need to tell me.]
Monadias was silent for a while, but soon asked again.
[What about the gauntlets?]
I don't know who is that, so be wary of them.
[Okay.]
Handeron, that was sleeping, slowly woke up. It was slowly getting dark outside, so they decided to stay the night.
***
- And now I am here, end.
- Why did you already have an full-fledged battle when I only had training arc?
- It wasn't easy.
- But you still fought, and probably were badass.
- I would if somebody besides an old man and a fight psycho saw me.
- Oh, and also. I never said hi, sorry.
Monadias then waved at the gauntlets. To no reaction.
They both fell silemt at that.
- What?
- Why would you do that?
- Just wanted to greet the person I see for the first time. Anyways, what are we going to do now?
- The stuff that teenagers do when they get transported to another world like us, we-
Handeron realized that he maybe shouldn't have told his weapon about the another world and stuff, but Monadias replied.
- Why did you stop?
- Huh?
- You stopped speaking in the middle of the sentence.
- I don't want to talk about that stuff, they are hearing.
What stuff?
[I don't know what is he talking about, maybe that we are from another world?]
Oh this. I still hear mumbling so I don't know.
- Are you talking about our old world?
- Um, no.
- You do, you are a bad liar. They can't hear it.
- How do you know?
- I told you I have a woman inside me, just like you have the oldy. She hears my thoughts. I was thinking about it earlier and she said that I was talking gibberish.
- Ah, okay.
Handeron stayed in silence, but soon enough he countinued.
- So yeah, how about we do stuff that teenagers in anime do when they are transported to another world?
- Like what?
- Become an adventurer, help people, get girls and stuff like that.
- I don't have anything better in mind besides travelling through the world, so okay.
- We will try to find a city tomorrow. So, go to sleep.
- Why me?
- I already did when I passed out.
Monadias sighed, and as a joke, Handeron sang him a goodnight song, which he probably didn't like, considering the fact that Handeron was hit with a dead duck, that was thrown by Monadias at him. Soon enough, he was sleeping...
[So you can hear my thoughts...]
Yes, indeed.
[First things first, what is your name?]
Righneas.
[Reaghnia-...Ry-... Okay whatever, can I call you Neas?]
No.
[Ehh, okay...]
After learning the pronuncatiom of his name in his head, he started slowly approaching the link of the chain.
[First, what was that last attack?]
It was Last Stand, a technique that you can unlock at the 50% potential. You are able to use maximum output of the increased strength due to the damage taken, but you will be knocked out with one hit. The healing is stopped for ten seconds when it is activared, and you can, for now, use it once per day. I told you you were 40% when you equipped me, and you managed to grow so much in just a moment.
[Ooh, nice. So how strong am I now?]
About 52%. You really are a prodigy material.
A moment passed, Handeron then looked over at the link of chain, glowing like a pulse does.
[So what do we do about him?]
I would ignore that. He probably wants to take my spot as your host.
[But you feel it too?]
Yeah... and that bothers me.
[Maybe there is a way for both of you to cooperate?]
There wasn't anybody in history that would wield two weapons with high percentage of potential and even so, a weapon with a conscious representation in their mind construct is even stronger, and we both have one, so you will probably explode from all of this.
[Well, then maybe if I come a little closer, he will be able to communicate with me or something.]
That doesn't work like that.
[But still, I want to get closer.]
He then approached the link of the chain, and as he it was at arms reach, the link moved towards him very fast and sunk inside his chest. Handeron then passed out.
