Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Yes, a fight for our lives.
The situation was bad. He has been locked here for quite some time now. Why didn't they stop, and gave up at the rock? They both underestimated monster's intelligence. If he knew that they would be waiting for them to approach that rock, and that this place is so big, he would immidiately leave. Well, a man is smarter after bad stuff happens.
They gave him food and water, and the accomodation wasn't all that bad, considering he is used to sleeping on hay, but he knew his moment will come any time soon. He heard the roars of monsters, most of the time they were muffled but sometimes they were louder than that. They were shaking the walls.
It seems like Donall was here somewhere, too. If he weren't, then why would he still be alive? He was stronger than him, so...
Steps could be heard. Heavy ones, at that. They were closer and closer. Cuimin stared behind the bars of his cell, waiting for an answer. Will his final moments arrive today?
An orc stopped right in front of his cell. A rattling, at first inaudible due to the orc's steps, but now clear as a sunny day, were coming, too. A skeleton with a key in his arm, opened the cell, and waved his hand at Cuimin, to signal him to follow them. Cuimin didn't object, as he slowly came out of his cell. He was walking side by side with the orc and the skeleton. As they were going through a maze of corridors, he found himself near a staircase. He was handed a weapon, which he recognized in an instant.
[My ring? Why would they...]
He then was pushed away, and the skeleton pointed towards the top of the stairs, where bars covered the exit. He looked at the orc. He had his mace ready to beat him to bits, and Cuimin also felt like they weren't there alone. He soon went up, and as he stared through the cage's bars, he saw a colloseum, filled with all kinds of monsters. They were roaring, drinking, and cheering on the gladiators. The fight was happening between an werewolf, and a wraith of some sort. Cuimin saw that creatures first time in his life.
He then heard some loud male voice.
- Let me go! You piece of meat! I want to get out!
He recongized that voice. It was Donall. He was in a bad state, probably due to his temperamental character, as his, infamous in the village, double-handed axe was given to him. He was confused at first, but as he understanded the situation, he tried attacking the orc. He was quickly overpowered, but not wounded heavily. He clenched his teeth, wanting to attack again, but soon, he also heard a familiar voice.
- Stop it Donall, he knows what he is doing.
He looked over at the top of the staircase.
- Cuimin! So you are not dead? Wow, that's a relief! I thought when we were seperated, that they were just messing with me, giving me all this food and stuff, but here we are!
- It's not something to be happy about. Look.
Donall peeked through the cage, he saw the fight, that was ending right in front of his eyes. The wraith slowly ended the werewolf's life, descending from the highground it could get by flying, and slowly, attack by attack, finishing the werewiolf. The arena was cleared from the battle. A goblin shaman, took the wraith with him, not by force. They were walking side by side, enjoying a conversation, at least it looked like one.
- Are we going to...
- Yes, a fight for our lives.
Donall fell to his knees in front of Cuimin. He then put his head on the floor, and said.
- I'm sorry I dragged you into this. I didn't know...
- Yeah, yeah I know. Now, let's just win and go home.
The cage opened. The orc from earlier had now two friends that pushed them out, and soon, the cage closed again.
The arena was filled with shouts, roars of hatred. It seems like everybody here had one thing in common, hate for humans.
The arena had sand on the floor, slowing down the movements. It was already a little red, probably from human, and monster blood. The colloseum had three more entrances, two of which were unusally bigger then the rest. Two smaller ones were opened, one by one, from which a beastman and an elf emerged. The other one, on the opposite side of the arena, from Cuimin and Donall's perspective, was still closed.
The arena then suddenly went silent. A goblin shaman from earlier started talking through a magic command that enhanced his voices strength. It was, of course, all gibberish for non monsters, but from the moves of his hands, he was talking about the unopened cage. As he raised his voice, it opened, and a giant stone golem could be seen going out. It was probably six times larger than them. The roaring was in it's peak.
Cuimin looked around the arena, and felt the beastman's sight on him. The elf was a calm, but it was only posed. Soon, the stone golem was slowly coming towards him. He responsed with a barrage of stones flying towards him, which were shooted from his sling. He dodged as much as he could, the sand didn't help at all, but it was also not helping the stone golem. Uneasy ground made him straigthen up twice already.
- Come on, we have to help...
- No! Stop!
Donall stopped Cuimin, his face angered.
- It's everybody for themselves... We should wait, and attack when he is weakend.
Cuimin smashed his hand away, and looked at Donall with a furious face.
- You know what? I don't care about your opinion. The last time I trusted you we ended up here, so now you listen to me.
Donall frowned at that response, but he followed him regardless. The golem had a pefect chance to squash the elf, that tripped, his stamina drained, and it took it's chance.
But it was stopped. Donall hit the arm of the golem just when it was about to hit the elf, changing the course of the attack. When the golem saw that, he aimed with his other arm at him, but Cuimin was already at his neck, attacking relentlessly with his fists. As it didn't really make a difference, he decided to block golems vision with his body. He then, as he wrapped his hands around him, said.
- Unbroken!
He had a dark blue outline around him. The golem tried taking him off, to no result. He was unbudged. He did receive some damage, but it was reduced. It was the power of his ring. He has increased defence, but his body can't move at any rate. Nor he nor anybody else can change the position he was staying in.. He didn't see many uses to it, but it was a lifesaver now.
Cuimin saw Donall attack the golem's feet, leaving visible cracks, but it wasn't enough. Soon, the golem started rampaging, attacking left and right. Donall wasn't ready for that, and as the golems arm was coming towards him, he was pushed away. He looked over, and it was the beastman, that wasn't fighting.
He took the golems punch, and was sent flying. He made a crater in the floor. It seemed like he was dead, but his eyes were looking straigtht at Donall. He knew he had something up his sleeve.
- Are you charged up?
- Not fully, but I think it will be enough!
He then took a stance, and soon, started running towards the golem. It was still unable to see anything, and as he was distracted thtough elves' attacks, he was hit from the back.
- Release!
Donall's axe charged over time, with any movement. It was quite a good power-up, especially for a 40% potential warrior like him.
The golem was hit directly. The attack made a giant cut in his torso. He started turning into pieces. With his last resort, he fell on his back, trying to crush Donall, but Cuimin was faster to rescue him. They emerged victorious from this battle, and as they looked over to the beastman, he was alresdy on his feet.
The arena fell silent for a second, but soon, the crowds went wild. They didn't like humans, but they loved a good fight. The goblin shaman emerged, and extended three of his fingers. He then put down one of them
- Seems like it's not the only thing we will be fighting...
- Yeah...
The elf, and beastman approached them. They had their differences, but in a desperate situation, you gather all help you can, so they found common language. The beastman was disowned from his family, bevause of his inability to speak, and as he travelled, he was captured. The elf was supposed to be a slave for the capital's noblesmen. He avoided that fate, due to the fact that the carraige that he was transported in, was attacked, and thus, he is here.
A loud horn could be heard. It signalized the second round. The crowd went wild again, and all of them readied themselves.
***
[This place is huge! I need to find a way inside though...]
Monadias sneaked through the area quite smoothly, but the problem was with the colloseum. It had a big empty space around it. The roof is closed, so no flying inside.
As he was watching the entrances, he saw a group of orcs, with a orc mage at the center. He was quite a big guy, and he had a big robe, too...
Monadias swallowed his pride, distracted the orcs, and hid under the robe. At least he had some underwear....

The giant rats were all defeated. As more were killed, the four gladiators of the arena were having an easier time against them. The third round was just around the corner. The lack of stamina was more and more visible.
- If we want to win against the last monster, we need to work more as a team! The rats would have been easier if we communicated from the very beggining!
- We met eachother just now, don't expect wonders, human!
The elf was right, but well, there was no time for more arguing. The gate opened, and a unusually big fly flew through the sky. It was slowly making it's way into the middle of the arena, when it was suddenly shot with a handful of web. It was completely covered within a second. Then, a spider was slowly entering the arena. It was big, had a multitude of legs, and was black as night itself. It left the adventurers shivering.
- How did they manage to bring a spider of Southern Dark Forest?! This should be impossible!
- Dark Forest? Isn't that in the land of elves?
- Exactly! They were rampaging beasts in the old times, but the Queen brought them to be peaceful... This guy is probably enraged though... My 20% potential sling won't even make a scratch on it!
- Don't worry, we got this... We have to believe in ourselves!
They rushed forward, making their way to the giant spider's legs. It didn't react at first, focused on it's earlier prey, but as Donall got rid of one lf it's legs, it did notice them.
The gladiators attacked relentlessly. It used it's legs to pierce enemies, and it shot webs all around As it only had one target at a time, it was easy for them to attack, by taking the tactic of target switching. The idea is, when one of them is attacked, the rest counterattacks, and tries to switch the opponent's attention to someone else.
The most suitable targets for this tactic were the beastman, and Cuimin. The beastman could take a lot more hits than regular human, and Cuimin was agile enough to dodge most attacks. He, however, nearly lost his leg, when the giant spider attacked him now.
As they slowly put him down, all they had do to is to watch if it's not attacking with it's mouth or shooting the web, and they were going to win.
When it has fallen on it's two remaining legs, the battle was finished. It seemed like it wasn't that hard at all, but the teamwork really made a difference.
But the spider suddenly started wiggling, and soon, it was cut from the inside. From the cut body, four smaller spiders emerged.
- That is one wierd way to have kids...
- Focus, Donall!
These spiders were more agile, and the web seemed, like it could stay on forever. The giant spider used his web, but it dissolved nearly instantly, when it hit the sand.
The crowd was happy. The spiders were winning at all fronts, and the gladiators have been backed into a wall.
- Any ideas how to get out of here?
- I'm not charged... This may be our last...
- Come on, don't lose hope! To be honest, I was very sad and angered about myself being here, because my mother was probably crushed by my disappearance, and I wanted to tell her I was okay, but now... I think I had fun here, fighting by your side. And I am talking to the beastman and elf too!
They had no space behind them. They were being squashed together.
- Sorry again, Cuimin.
- Seriously, no problem, Do-
His arm was pierced with a spiders leg, but soon, they stopped.
- Huh? What they are-
Donall had his mouth closed with some web. The spiders tried to suffocate them. There was more and more of it.
- Thank you guys...
They were fully covered. The spiders slowly waited for their web cocoon to stop moving, as it would mean that they are ready to be eaten.
But the web then disappeared in an instant. It was taken with a sand tornado, and the travellers were soon freed, as the web was seperated from them by the wind. As it all calmed down, a person could be seen, flying in the middle of the arena, with the spiders dead on below him.
The crowd went into a ruckus. They started to throw things at him, but the wind that surrounded him repelled them.
The goblin shaman raised an alarn. Whole city started coming towards the arena. Some stronger, like a giant skeleton, and hordes of weaker.
Monadias then started shooting the roof of the cave. It's crumbs were falling to the arena, and soon, an exit was made. He looked over at unconscious gladiators, and he sent them upwards. He then sent wind to the closed sections, checking if there are any more people, and soon, they were only bars of gates that closed the arena that were seperating them from freedom. They were bend by the wind's force. They were all sent out.
[Woah, I didn't know I was that strong.... Most of the monsters start running away as soon as they see me...]
He then tried destroying the only way out, crushing it, but he saw someone diving right through the hole.
- Aren't you supposed to heal everybody up there?
- They are already. What? Not happy to see me?
- Hey, I'm trying to be a good hero here!
***
Cuimin woke up in the village's hospital. He was healed, already, but he probably stayed there because he was unconscious. The hospital was full of many kinds of people - humans, elves, beastpeople. Soon, a Sentinel with a capital's crest on his unform apprached him, ans said.
- You! You were down there, weren't you? We have heard a lot about you and the others... Can I ask about some questions?
- Huh?! Yeah, of course, but first... What about the guy that saved us? Is he okay?
- I don't know, he didn't appear here.
- What about the monsters? Did you defeat them all?
- Well, we underestimate the scale of the problem. We only were told about a colloseum, not a whole city, but it didn't really matter. Every monster down there was dead. We didn't have anything to di besides gathering resources from them.
- Huh?!
Then, a woman approached Cuimin's bed. She hugged him tightly, and said.
- Don't ever go missing again! My heart was trembling when you were gone...
- Sorry, mom...
