Chapter 93
In front of me stood an entrance adorned with pillars, resembling the gateway to a temple.
This was an area that could never have been discovered without first dealing with the lake’s water—like a hidden stage in a game.
In the first place, the very existence of this Dual Dungeon was akin to a hidden stage. Moreover, even for a Rank VII dungeon, its traps and labyrinth were set at an unfathomable level of difficulty.
And after finally reaching what seemed like the goal, there was a teleporter practically screaming, “Please leave now.”
I could feel the layers upon layers of malicious intent. Just how astronomically low were the odds of finding this entrance?
‘Master, you have an uncanny intuition sometimes. Even I wouldn’t have found this entrance.’
Eve’s voice carried genuine admiration, but honestly, this was pure luck.
At the very least, I should make it a habit to explore any dungeon I find more thoroughly in the future.
With that in mind, I stepped onto the muddy ground, my boots making squelching noises as I made my way into the side tunnel.
“Hmm. No traps here?”
Perhaps due to following Eve’s guidance and disarming so many traps, I had started developing a sense for them. Based on experience, this room was trap-free—there was no ominous presence.
‘As expected of Master, you can sense traps now. By the way, there’s something over there.’
Eve had spotted something deeper inside. Following her lead, I advanced further and then—
“What is this, a magic circle?”
My earlier impression of this place being a temple wasn’t far off. A magic circle radiating a divine white glow lay before us, exuding an aura of sacredness.
‘There’s something placed in the center.’
Looking closer, I noticed a broken object resting at the heart of the magic circle.
‘This… looks like a restoration magic circle. I’ve seen something similar in the Complete Guide to Magic Circles.’
Lately, Eve had been spending her free time reading my books.
This magic circle was far too intricate for me, someone who never formally studied magical arrays, to decipher. But if Eve said so, then it was most likely correct.
‘There’s a protective barrier preventing access. Unless we deal with it, we won’t be able to touch the object.’
Indeed, upon closer inspection, a thin membrane seemed to be enveloping the magic circle.
“Can we break it?”
Since we had come this far, I wanted to secure whatever was inside at all costs. When I asked Eve if she could do something about the barrier—
‘It’s a type that needs to be broken by striking it with four elemental spells in a specific order. Normally, multiple mages would be required, but since I can draw directly from the core, this is easy.’
She promptly unleashed spells of earth, water, fire, and wind in succession against the barrier.
With a sharp crack, the membrane shattered like brittle glass, disintegrating into fragments before our eyes.
“Thanks, Eve.”
‘For Master, this was nothing at all.’
Praising Eve seemed to make her happy, as she responded with a proud tone.
I stepped inside the magic circle.
Before me lay a rod encrusted with gemstones, split into two pieces. It appeared to be a broken staff.
‘Most likely, this magic circle is powered by the dungeon itself, restoring the staff over time.’
I nodded at Eve’s assessment.
“I see. As expected of a hidden stage. A damaged staff isn’t ideal, but at least it’s a rare item.”
Considering how high the dungeon’s difficulty had been, receiving a reward like this put a smile on my face. I reached out to take the staff—but then—
“Wait a second. If it’s being restored, wouldn’t removing it be a bad idea?”
Would stopping the restoration midway cause any problems?
I voiced my concern.
‘Judging by the process, I’d estimate it’ll take another month for the restoration to complete if left here.’
“That’s too long. We’ll figure something out later, so let’s take it for now.”
I had a vague idea of a workaround. Using Amplify followed by Repair could work, but that method consumed an immense amount of mana, so I’d prefer to avoid it.
‘Now that we’ve secured the prize, let’s head back.’
Following Eve’s suggestion, I sent the staff to her and made my way outside.
“Alright, let’s extract the core.”
After looting all the visible treasures, no additional monsters appeared—nor did any mastermind reveal themselves.
Among the collected treasures were magic tools, enchanted weapons like swords, spears, and bows, as well as armor imbued with unknown magical properties.
If sold, these would guarantee a lifetime of luxury.
As expected of a Rank VII dungeon’s treasure hoard. While I was primarily focused on the dungeon core, it was clear I should start paying attention to these resources as well. Selling them could fund future dungeon core purchases.
‘We’re ready whenever you are, Master.’
To prepare for any unforeseen events, Eve, Carol, and Kaiser were all on standby.
If a boss appeared, our plan was to immediately suppress it while retreating to the teleporter.
“Alright then… 3… 2… 1… now!”
I pulled out the dungeon core, bracing for whatever might happen next—but…
‘Nothing happened?’
The surrounding area remained eerily silent, with only Eve’s voice breaking the stillness. It seemed this was truly the end.
“…That was anticlimactic.”
I had been fully prepared to face a monster even stronger than Cerberus, yet the one who set up this dungeon continued to defy expectations until the very end.
‘Well, that’s fine, isn’t it? We have treasure to sell, a new core to analyze… There’s never enough time for everything.’
Seeing Eve’s excitement, I simply shrugged and—
“Well, whatever.”
—I exited the dungeon.
“I have a report to make.”
“Hmm. Speak.”
A man sat in a chair, listening to his subordinate’s report.
“The explorers who entered the Dual Dungeon appear to have been lost.”
“Oh? They lasted three days? They must have been quite skilled.”
“In light of this, we intend to proceed with the retrieval.”
“Good. The relocation site has already been prepared. Just mention my name, and they will hand it over. And make sure my father doesn’t find out.”
The man’s hands trembled slightly as he gave instructions to his subordinate.
“Understood, Prince Tak. We will exercise the utmost caution to ensure the Demon King remains unaware.”
Watching his subordinate depart, Tak muttered to himself—
“We need to fix it soon, or my father will find out…”
