Reincarnated Into a Pokémon World and Can See Their Hidden Potential?!

Chapter 57: A Shadow from the Past

The forest air was dense and quiet. Shafts of sunlight filtered through the thick canopy as Ray and Pidgeotto moved deeper into the wilderness. They had already spent hours walking along the forest's edge, where the Pokémon they encountered were weak—mostly low-level Caterpie, Pidgey, and a few uninterested Sentret. Ray scanned them out of habit, but none of them showed any remarkable aptitude or strength.

Not worth the effort. Pidgeotto needed a real challenge.

Ray sighed and wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. "Still nothing impressive…" he muttered. "Pidgeotto, you okay to keep going?"

"Pidgeotto!" the bird chirped, determined, eyes sharp with focus.

They pressed deeper. Trees grew thicker. The light dimmed. A faint rustling ahead caught Ray's attention, and he instinctively crouched low, gesturing for Pidgeotto to stay alert.

As they approached, Ray spotted a small clearing. A group of Rattata were scavenging the underbrush, watched over by a slightly bulkier Raticate. He scanned them quickly.

Ray was about to turn away when a deep growl shattered the calm.

From the shadows emerged a large, scarred Mightyena. Its matted fur bristled with primal energy, and its eyes were filled with savage intent. The moment Ray saw it, his heart skipped a beat.

He knew that face.

The scar over its right eye. The posture. The look of hunger in its eyes.

It was the same Mightyena that had attacked him years ago—when he was just a child of three. The memory rushed back unbidden: the feeling of helplessness, the sound of his father's voice, and the blinding fire from Arcanine's intervention. He had nearly died that day.

But now… now things were different.

Ray's breathing steadied. He wasn't a helpless child anymore. He was a certified Intermediate Trainer.

"Pidgeotto," he said quietly, eyes locked on the predator. "That's our opponent."

A perfect match.

The Mightyena growled, fangs bared, staring at the frightened Rattata family it had been hunting. But now its attention turned to Ray and Pidgeotto, sensing the challenge in Ray's stare.

The wind shifted. The battlefield was chosen.

Ray took a step forward, eyes sharp.

"That Mightyena… it's the same one from back then," he whispered. "It almost ended me once. But not today."

Pidgeotto spread its wings wide, feathers gleaming in the filtered light. The air crackled with tension.

"Let's show it how much we've grown."

The Mightyena snarled, crouching low. The fight was about to begin.

To be continued…
