Reincarnated as Nobita Nobi

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Journey to the Cretaceous Period Part 3

Shizuka's eyes shone with admiration when she saw the effective plan I came up with.

I could feel the "affection progress bar" ticking up again.

And just like that, our five-person team started preparing for a long journey.

During the day, we'd fly with our Take-copters, traveling, playing, and enjoying the sights. At night, we'd stay in Doraemon's Apartment Pretend Tree.

Honestly, it felt just like a vacation. Not that I minded—I could train my psychic powers with my E.S.P Training Box even while soaring through the sky.

Day and night, I kept practicing, and I could feel my stamina with psychic powers growing at an insane rate.

Back home, too many distractions made it hard to focus. But here in the Cretaceous, I could dedicate myself to training.

On the way, Doraemon even used Momotaro Jirushi's Millet Dumplings to tame a group of dinosaurs for us to ride.

When we passed by a volcanic lake, that T-Rex showed up again, attacking a herd of sauropods living there.

The scattered sauropods sent us running in all directions.

After the T-Rex took down one of them, it turned its head toward another target—

There was Shizuka, collapsed on the ground, clutching a baby sauropod in her arms.

She must have been playing with the baby earlier. Now, seeing the chaos, maybe her kindness made her unwilling to let the little one get eaten.

Even as she tried to run, she never let go of the baby dinosaur.

Seeing all this, I dashed forward, putting myself between Shizuka and the T-Rex to shield her.

The T-Rex, maybe recognizing us from that night, opened its giant jaws at me and Shizuka.

Now was my chance. I threw a Momotaro Jirushi's Millet Dumplings—one I'd saved earlier—straight into its mouth.

The effect was instant, almost like a cheat skill from a fantasy game, making the beast docile and a bit… dim-witted.

I knew I'd succeeded—not only gaining more of Shizuka's favor, but also setting up a crucial plot point.

This dinosaur would become very important later.

That's why I made sure to tame it myself.

"Thank you for saving me, Nobita!" Shizuka cried, hugging me tight.

Her soft, sweet-smelling body pressed against me. I could feel her warmth and the pounding of her heart.

"It's nothing, really," I said softly, trying to calm her down after such a scare.

After that, Suneo and Gian took turns scolding the T-Rex, though it was too cowed to fight back at all.

Soon, with laughter and teasing, we said goodbye to the sauropod herd and moved on with our journey.

We traveled through more amazing landscapes, played around, and before we knew it, about a month had passed.

Our five-person team finally reached a place that was known in the story to be dangerous.

With our Take-copters, we gently flew into a massive canyon.

Huge, tall, pillar-like rocks jutted up everywhere. At the top of each pillar were enormous, strange bird nests, filled with bones and gigantic eggs.

"What kind of bird could make a nest like that?" Suneo asked, puzzled.

Doraemon tried to lighten the mood with a joke: "If only the birds here were sparrow-sized."

But none of us laughed. The tension was too high.

Suddenly, a dark swarm of creatures appeared behind us.

Doraemon glanced back, then shouted, "Run!"

We all spun around, pushing our Take-copters to full speed.

"Quetzalcoatlus!" Suneo screamed.

Even as we fled, I secretly used my psychic power to knock a few of them out of the sky.

We managed to escape a good distance before the flock of Quetzalcoatlus was attacked by someone else.

I knew the story's villain was making his move.

It was that masked man again—he'd saved us, but we all knew he was up to no good.

Once the pterosaurs were driven off, we slowly descended to the ground.

The masked man stepped off his flying machine.

"We meet again," he said, tipping his cowboy hat with a smug grace.

"You actually followed us all the way here," Doraemon said, instantly on guard.

"No matter what, I did just save your lives, didn't I? You really ought to greet me with a smile!" he grinned.

"Of course, what I want is Piisuke," he continued. "Like I told you before, I've seen a lot of dinosaurs, but never one so close to humans."

Realization dawned on Doraemon.

"I get it now. You're a dinosaur hunter," he said coldly.

Doraemon explained, "Dinosaur hunters capture or kill rare Mesozoic animals to sell them for outrageous prices.

But it's against Time Navigation Law, because it could change history, disrupt the Earth's environment and evolution.

Right now, even humans' ancestors—mammal-like reptiles—are just starting out.

If they're all wiped out, we'll disappear too!"

Doraemon was getting angrier as he spoke.

The masked man laughed: "Who knew you were so knowledgeable, raccoon robot?"

"I'm not a raccoon robot! I'm a cat-type robot!" Doraemon fumed, stomping his feet.

"Heh, there are so many dinosaurs here, even if I killed a couple hundred it'd be nothing," the masked man said, drawing both his pistols and firing at dinosaur bones for show.

I stared at this clown in disbelief.

Showing off with guns in front of me, Nobita Nobi?

But no matter how much he tried to threaten us, none of us were willing to hand over Piisuke.

Seeing our resolve, the masked man just smiled, then had his men carry over a box full of toys and snacks.

He tried to tempt us, "Adventuring without adults must be tough! Here's a little gift from me.

And, like I said before, I'll pay you handsomely.

Plus, I'll use my time machine to send you all home."

As soon as he said that, I knew things were about to go south.

"You'll send us home?" Suneo blurted out.

"Discuss it tonight among yourselves," the masked man said, noticing some hesitation.

Maybe the villain's IQ dropped, because he even blurted out the location of his base under the river, and invited us to visit.

I was speechless. Is this what counts as kids anime logic?

Hey, you just revealed your own hideout!

"I'll visit again tomorrow morning. Hope you'll give it some thought," the masked man said, tipping his hat and taking his leave with that same cocky elegance.
