Chapter 11: Second Test.
CHAPTER 11
After his long search, he was unable to find it was he had been looking for. They would be having lunch soon, and although he was hungry, he didn't feel like joining them.
There was an unsettling feeling looming over him, one that he couldn't describe. Was it that he couldn't feel any emotion, or that he simply didn't want to feel it? The feeling just made him want to rip his hair off as he was drowning in thought.
Seated by the side of the beach, he was using his external energy to battle the rays from the sun. The heat was still affecting him though; he was sweating profusely but remained right where he was.
" Your mother has been looking for you." A voice came behind him. It was a familiar voice but one that he didn't want to hear anytime soon.
" I'll be there shortly." He replied, his gaze intently fixed on the water while he remained unshifted, " I think I might have lost my appetite."
" You know, you're starting to sound a bit more like your big sister." The snake hissed before slowly crawling away.
He remained where he was, dwelling in deep thoughts. He didn't know what could have caused the sudden change in him, but he couldn't help but feel that it had something with the strange blue gas.
There was also a very big chance that it could have been caused by the system; it was the very reason why he had yet to bring up the matter before anyone.
" I'll see if I can do some research on the matter later today, but perhaps I report back to her on time." He thought, standing up from the ground.
He returned to the beach house a few minutes later and found his family already seated at the dining table. How their gloomy faces were now all similar.
For a moment, he couldn't help but think back at how ignorant he had been. The very reason why he was never on good terms with his elder sister was her lack of empathy and understanding.
Was she going through the same thing as him?
Putting the thought aside, he walked to the table and took a seat by her side. The meals looked grand and appetizing, but they certainly weren't giving him an appetizing feeling.
He quit before he could finish half of his meal.
" What's the matter?" His mother asked, turning towards him, the usual worried look now gone.
Seeing the look on her face at that moment, he couldn't have been any more stupid not to know that she had a hand in whatever was happening to him. Their relationship had gotten to a point where he thought she was obsessed with him, but it seemed that wasn't the case in the slightest.
She was simply joyed to have a son; that was it.
" I just lost my appetite, nothing to worry about." He mumbled, forcing a slight smile on his face as he stood up and walked away.
His next destination was the library, but he didn't go there to read. He used the laptop in the room instead. The very reason why he had refused to limit his reasoning to the aspects of his previous life, was because he knew more than anyone how great the standards of his new life w
as compared to the previous one.
Even though he was barely five years old, he was certain that he could beat most of the hundred strongest men in his previous life, even without the aid of his system.
He was already shattering boulders even before the system boosts; shattering a few bones would be child's play for him.
Not only that but his entire body system was improved as well. He had a very high resistance to poison and mind effects which meant that even venom from the mostly venomous snake would have a hard time against him.
The same could be said for psychoactive drugs made using natural minerals. Even if it was a psychoactive drug, then it should have been slightly improved for it to have had such a positive effect on him.
His search was made and his answers were quickly loaded, but he began hearing footsteps coming from the door the minute they appeared.
" Megumi." His mother called out from the door, " I would like it if you could come with me."
He stood up without any questions, having closed the laptop, and slowly walked towards the door where his mother was.
She turned immediately, walking away while he slowly followed behind her. They ended up back at the place where he had met his sister performing the familiar summoning ritual.
She turned towards him with an emotionless gaze and said, " We'll be starting your second test now Megumi."
With that, she knelt before him and promptly covered his eyes as she leaned in and kissed him on the forehead. The ground beneath them began rumbling, and the feeling of her hand covering his eyes suddenly disappeared.
He was immediately shrouded in darkness and his mother was suddenly nowhere to be seen. He was unfazed by what was happening before him but it was obvious to him that he was trapped.
There was a large amount of external energy swirling around him, he could see what seemed to be a closed entrance.
How he ended up there could only lead to the last words he heard from his mother.
Everything that had been happening to him since he came here, according to her, was some kind of test. Her reasons for testing him, though, were something he didn't want to know.
Despite all that was happening, he still remained unfazed, standing right where he was as the cave slowly began to light up with burning torches.
" Grr-! Grr-! Grr-!"
The grunts of beasts continued coming from the distance and began coming closer towards him.
Their horrific figures were slowly revealed as the torches kept lightning deeper into the cave. Threading across the cave floor towards him, their sharp claws held out in preparation for an attack.
He could sense their innate energy from the distance, as well as their level of external control and it was nothing compared to his. They were a bunch of low-tier curses, even worse than the ones he just finished facing.
Left in such an advantageous position, he could but only think, "What could possibly go wrong?"
The test had only just begun; spikes began growing out of the walls, fifty centimeters in length, and were as thick as his arm. The ground slowly turned muddy, making it hard to walk on and lava flames began occasionally spewing out from random places.
