Chapter 232: Zod!
Kael flapped his wings gracefully like an ancient war angel here to bring judgment upon a sinful mortal.
The winds that surrounded him began to change as the Conquering Essence within him connected a bridge between his main essence pool and his other power pools.
The black wind that was a signature of Chloe began to change in color and intensity. At first, a few gold dots and strands, then the whole wind around him changed.
The wind sifting around his wings and around his body gained a golden hue and became fiercer and more powerful than before.
This was not just a simple enhancement, it was completely transforming and becoming Kael's own power. The Conquering Essence was corrupting the Air powers, giving them new properties and making it more dominating and oppressive.
His ability to control the power of an Air Lion was still tied to the contract and therefore still tied to Chloe, but it was no longer dependent on her style, it was becoming something that Kael could call his own.
The best part was that it was permanent, and this was just the air power, Kael had not even tried out other powers yet.
The only way anyone could rid him of these powers was to kill his consorts, which was easier said than done now with the upgrades he would soon be giving them.
Ahead of Kael, Zod flew over the waters at an extremely fast speed. Behind him, the waters split apart from the sheer force of his movements, parting into two like the red sea.
The ankle and wrist wings flapped with their full might, sending out powerful gusts of wind that propelled him forward.
Whether it was in his humanoid form or his Cheetah form, Zod was simply built for speed.
Although Kael flew fast, he wasn't catching up at all. Without adding other powers like lightning and the War State, a lion had no way to keep up with the speed of a cheetah.
And Kael was still holding his restraints, Zod would fall, he would make sure of it.
Kael's two arms tensed as he formed claw postures with his hands and slashed out.
Four arcs of golden-hued wind blades shot out of his curved fingers and rushed toward the running Zod.
Zod naturally sensed the incoming attack with his affinity to wind and swerved to the left, drifting across and raising a wall of water in the process.
But this time, they had already created a good distance between them and the beach. The hovering shuttle had become small in their vision.
But after Kael forced Zod to dodge to the left, Zod had begun racing back, curving toward the settlement again.
Kael too leaned to the left, trying to take advantage of the curve to catch up with Zod.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Zod shouted at the top of his lungs. He slashed back behind him to send out a pale yellow wind blade that Kael dodged.
Still, the wind blades grazed Kael's cheeks, cutting some strands of his trimmed beard off and coming in contact with his skin. Yet, there was no blood, it was as if the wind blade struck a statue.
No actual damage was done.
Instead of slowing Kael down as Zod had intended, it only caused the king to increase the rate of his attack.
Kael turned into a living turbine, slashing out like crazy and sending out a torrent of wind blades.
With every wind blade he threw out, bodies of water were splashed into the sky, blown away before they could touch him or Zod.
From the settlement, those who watched the high-speed chase only saw hazy distortions as well as pillars and walls of water rising into the sky.
Zod stomped and pushed and swerved and ran. Every step he took was accompanied by a flap from his ankle wings.
He zig-zagged his way into evading as many wind blades as he could. Zod could tell, if any of those wind blades touched him, that would be his end, he would be shredded to pieces.
He was getting desperate, the more time drew, the closer he felt to death. He could not continue running for long.
With no other choice, Zod took control of the air in his surroundings and did something amazing.
He created a field around him where the air was constantly getting denser and relaxing at the same time. To an ordinary creature, it would feel like a dry sticky substance clinging to his or her body and suffocating it. It would be effective for slowing fast-moving objects.
But Kael was just not having it. As amazing as it looked, Kael's mind instantly thought up an equal counter to it.
The two golden wings folded up and positioned around him as he began to spin in mid-air.
Kael's body was like a drill, leaving ethereal golden spirals behind him and he dived through the pressurized atmosphere without facing any resistance.
He tore through Zod's defense like it was paper. The only advantage Zod had over Kael was speed, every other thing was lackluster and not worth mentioning.
Even his speed was starting to decrease as time passed.
He had spent so much energy, thinking that the defense airfield would at least slow Kael down.
All it did was serve as a waste of energy.
Kael was starting to get closer, and the feeling of impending doom was only getting clearer.
By now, Zod had made a full curve and was running back toward the settlement. If he continued like this with Kael chasing him, he would tear through the settlement, killing a lot of creatures and running straight into the forest.
Kael narrowed his eyes, he was close enough now. He spread his arm and spread his wings, sending out a torrent of heavy air that descended from the sky and slammed down on both of them.
Zod did not expect this at all and was caught off guard.
The heavy air slammed into his head, giving him the sensation of a mountain being dropped on his head. Like a hot needle through butter, he sank into the sea.
Kael continued the chase, he dived into the water, a bubble of air forming around him and serving as a barrier between him and the salt water.
Through the water, he could see Zod's disoriented form trying to swim upward. A ruthless glint flashed in Kael's eyes as he sped forward, blasting the water around him as he rushed into Zod like a wrecking ball.
*BOOM!*
Zod had generated an air barrier of his own just in time before Kael clashed with him.
The two different Air powers intertwined, one golden-hued, the other a pale yellow. One was a manifestation of the speed of wind, the other was simply dominating and tyrannical.
Kael rushed Zod with as many attacks as he felt comfortable with. He wasn't going to give Zod the time to concentrate and the space needed to transform into his true cheetah form.
If Zod knew this, he would have just transformed the moment he saw Kael, just in case.
That final burst of speed, something that even Kael found difficult to contend with without cheating, could only be granted by his true cheetah form.
"You should have stayed away!" Kael said as his clawed arm grabbed hold of Zod's neck just in time.
Zod was alarmed, this was absolutely bad, he could not afford for Kael to be so close to him.
Zod erupted with as much air energy as he could generate, and Kael maintained his grip with his full strength.
The result was as expected.
Above the surface of the sea, not too far from the shoreline, an explosion occurred from the depths, blasting water molecules high into the sky.
Kael shot out of the sea, his aura rising and the sky darkening behind him.
Held tightly by the grip of his right hand was Zod who dangled like a chicken about to be slaughtered.
Zod's eyes were wide open, he was finding it hard to breathe and Kael's claws were already piercing into his neck.
Kael wore a merciless expression on his face, his eyebrows cast a shadow over his eyes due to the evening sun.
"... Unfortunately, you met me," Kael said.
He reached out to grab one of Zod's hands, before the cheetah man could guess what was about to happen…
*RIP!*
Zod screamed in agony as felt his entire right arm being ripped off. The bones were forcefully disconnected, the flesh torn from the joints, and the blood spilled.
Blood spurted out of the armless stomp, falling into the seawater and giving a small portion of it a red hue.
Zod's screams annoyed Kael, so without further ado, he flapped his wings and shot straight for the grounds of the nearby beach settlement.
"Get out of the way!" A bear shouted telepathically. Even before he said anything, the creatures had already started running.
*BAM!*
"Arghck,"
Kael smashed Zod into the sand with Zods back making contact first. He coughed up blood and his mind hovered in and out of conciseness.
Zod was done for.
