Rehabilitation Therapist for the Broken Warrior

Chapter 2 - Rehabilitation Specialist of Another World

“This is the support budget and scale for this year. Is there anything else you need?”

This place is the heart of the kingdom, the State Council Chamber and the Audience Chamber.

Countless flags of the kingdom hung and fluttered from the ceiling, and the Monarch sat on the throne, listening intently to the affairs of the state.

And it was none other than I who had to answer the question just posed by the Kingdom’s Finance Minister.

“Yes, I’ve confirmed it. It seems to be sufficient as it has increased significantly compared to previous years.”

“That’s a relief, but the center has grown so much that you never know. Feel free to contact me anytime if you need anything additional.”

“Thank you.”

Three years after the end of the war.

The villages of the kingdom were still overflowing with war veterans and adventurers suffering from various traumas, stress disorders, and functional impairments.

Accordingly, the scale of the rehabilitation center grew day by day, and the kingdom was making every effort to expand the rehabilitation center, but the reality was that there was still a severe shortage of personnel and resources needed for rehabilitation compared to the demand.

This was especially true in terms of manpower, as rehabilitation medicine was a field that required collaboration with various specialists, including rehabilitation specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and psychotherapists.

When the center was established, the only personnel were myself, a specialist, and support staff to carry out my instructions.

Therefore, in order to fill the center’s staffing needs, I had to endure a grueling schedule of treating patients while simultaneously creating a practice-oriented resident training curriculum.

Now, the talent development curriculum was finally completed, and we reached the stage of receiving and implementing support personnel.

For the past three years, I had been living a hard life, sleeping less than three hours a day, but it was nothing compared to the medical school entrance exams or internship, so I managed to get through it somehow.

“Director Hope.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

When the rehabilitation center work report and the discussion on budget and personnel support were over, the Monarch asked to speak with me.

“You can tell just by looking that the scale of this support is enormous, right?”

“Yes, it is all thanks to Your Majesty.”

“That’s right. It’s not just for show or a joke, I really told them to do it. I instructed them to put in more than necessary. Enough so that you could even go on a trip abroad with the remaining funds.”

“Haha, I appreciate your kind words, but to go on a trip abroad, I need time rather than budget.”

I was grateful that the Monarch was paying attention to the operation of the center, but I was not in a position to go on a trip anywhere right now.

The Monarch must have known that, so he must have been joking.

Not only the center, but the whole country and the world were overflowing with patients in need of rehabilitation, and so were the interns who needed training.

“I regret it too. Even as Monarch, it is impossible for me to give you a few days off.”

“It’s enough that you care so much.”

“You are that important a person in this country. The people must exist for the nation to exist. The same goes for the economy and society. Anyone with a proper education can understand how important your work is in returning people who have difficulty moving to society and daily life.”

Certainly, the Monarch was right, but I was just doing this job because I liked it.

Although it was busy and difficult, the future of the profession was bright, I was socially respected, I had plenty of support, and I made a lot of money, a completely unique job…

More important than that, though, was the fact that a lot of broken former adventurers came to see me.

I was a rehabilitation specialist in my previous life as well, but in modern society, it was difficult to see people who had experienced war, so I learned something new while working here.

People who have experienced war and overcome hardships are not always hopeful or optimistic.

They were by no means like veteran heroes. They were just survivors.

They still suffer from fear and trauma every day.

No one else probably sees people screaming out skill names they don’t even use anymore while having nightmares or hallucinations as often as I do.

It’s also common for them to cry out the names of comrades or friends they couldn’t save.

Not only their minds, but also their bodily functions were severely damaged, and they struggled to perform even small daily tasks with trembling limbs, following my instructions with all their might.

Endlessly, endlessly… believing that they would get a little better.

Adventurers who once wielded swords and magic now struggled to even lift a spoon.

How pitiful!

The hardest part of treating them was hiding the corners of my mouth curling up at the sight of their heartbreaking appearance, as my heart pounded.

“So, I want you to go on a business trip, not a vacation.”

“Pardon? A business trip?”

A business trip? I couldn’t believe that word came out of the mouth of the Monarch, who had just been praising me and emphasizing my necessity.

“The curriculum you created. I assume you know that it has been shared with other countries on a humanitarian level according to the World Agreement, right?”

“Yes, of course I know.”

A global all-out war that devastated the entire continent and the world.

The Kingdom was not the only one with a large number of retired soldiers as a result of the six-year war.

Countries around the world also needed rehabilitation centers, and there was a flood of inquiries to the Norden Kingdom, the only country with a rehabilitation center at the moment, from countries that wanted to establish their own rehabilitation centers.

And according to a humanitarian agreement, it was decided to share the center establishment and operation data, as well as the curriculum that would help train specialists, with the whole world.

Currently, the world is full of scars from the war.

Since it was on a humanitarian level, I couldn’t claim any rights to the treatment methods, and it was clear that the kingdom had gained something from each country in this negotiation process, but I had no way of knowing what that was.

“I heard that the Keroa Empire recently opened a rehabilitation center. I’d like you to go and take a look. If it’s just for three days, there shouldn’t be any problem with the operation of our kingdom’s center.”

“Three days? But just getting to the Empire would take weeks…”

“I’ve obtained permission to use the Magic Tower.”

The Magic Tower…

If it was like what I read in novels, Magic Towers were built in the capitals of each country, and each Magic Tower was connected by a magic circle embedded with a high-level space-movement skill.

The Magic Towers and the Church were independent forces.

Even the Monarch of the kingdom said, ‘I’ve obtained permission,’ so the Magic Circle of the Magic Tower was not something that anyone could use.

“Speaking of permission here, this is very good news for you. I have obtained permanent permission for the founder of rehabilitation medicine, Hope Harvey. You can use the Magic Tower’s space movement skill whenever you want, as much as you want.”

“Pardon…? Anytime?”

“Yes, anytime. How about it? Do you feel like going on a trip abroad now?”

I know that the space movement circle of the Magic Tower is maintained and activated at a very high cost… And I get a free pass for it? Was this a privilege given to a mere doctor like myself, something that only the master of each tower could have?

“In order for other countries to operate centers, your help is ultimately essential. All the kings and emperors insisted that you should be able to use the space movement circle without limit. The World Agreement on Rehabilitation Medicine is on a humanitarian level, so the Magic Tower has no justification to refuse.”

So that’s how it was.

The right to move to another country at any time was certainly a tremendous right, but it also meant that many business trips awaited me after this trip to the Empire.

“When can you leave? The Empire said they’re ready whenever you are, so they’d like you to come as soon as possible.”

“If I need to prepare the center to last for three days without me… I need three days to prepare for the handover.”

“Okay, then I’ll contact the Magic Tower that it’ll be in three days.”

“Thank you.”

The business trip was suddenly set for three days later.

For the next three days, I had to prepare handover procedures in addition to my regular schedule.

Come to think of it, I’ve never left my position before, so there was no manual for when I was absent.

The fact that there were interns and residents in the center who could provide rehabilitation therapy even in my absence was a huge step forward.

Once I create it, I can use it whenever I go on vacation or a business trip, so it’s a necessary task.

“You may go now.”

“Yes, I wish you good health.”

“Take care of yourself. You are the most needed person in this world.”

“I will keep that in mind.”

The most needed person in the world… I know that I’m the busiest person, though.

Perhaps it would be more leisurely to go on a business trip and spend time in the Empire.

Maybe it would be okay to feel like I’m going on a trip abroad, as the Monarch said?

The destination of my business trip, the Keroa Empire, is the largest country in the world. That means…

‘The place that had the strongest military force. The place with the most and strongest adventurers and soldiers. And… the place closest to the gate.’

It was truly the center of the war. The place where the fiercest battles took place and the most people were broken.

I was looking forward to seeing what kind of patients would come to the rehabilitation center there.
