Reborn: Vanguard Of Hope

Chapter 6: First Dungeon

Chapter 6: The First Dungeon

Kai stood in the bustling marketplace of the Iron Rank District, a sprawling hub where players gathered to trade items, form parties, and prepare for dungeon raids. Despite the chatter and movement around him, his focus remained fixed on the glowing map displayed on his interface. The nearest F-rank dungeon was marked in faint green, a subtle shimmer on the holographic projection.

He had spent hours poring over the dungeon details provided by other players in public forums. The information was minimal—an underground labyrinth riddled with traps and low-level monsters. Despite its F-rank designation, it was no walk in the park for newcomers. Many players barely escaped with their lives, earning it the nickname "The Beginner's Graveyard."

Kai tightened his grip on his weapon, a basic Iron Longsword he had purchased with his initial system credits. His armor wasn't much better—simple leather gear that offered little protection against anything stronger than a scratch.

"You ready for this?" Kai muttered to himself, exhaling a slow breath. He had no party, no support. It was just him against the unknown.

Accessing the Dungeon

The entrance to the F-rank dungeon lay on the outskirts of the district, hidden within a dense forest. Kai followed the marked trail, weaving through towering trees and underbrush until he spotted a faint, pulsating glow ahead. As he stepped closer, the sight of the dungeon gate came into view.

The portal was a swirling vortex of energy, shimmering with shades of green and gray. Carved stone pillars flanked the entrance, engraved with cryptic symbols that radiated an eerie light. Above the portal hovered a notification:

[F-Rank Dungeon: The Twisting Hollow]

Requirement: Level 1+

Party Limit: Solo or Group (Max: 3 Players)

Kai hesitated for a moment, his gaze lingering on the swirling portal. The system's rules were clear: dungeons scaled their challenges based on the participant's level and rank. That meant even low-rank players like him could face monsters stronger than expected if the dungeon deemed it necessary.

"Alright," he said, stepping forward. The moment his hand touched the portal's energy, a system prompt appeared.

[Enter Dungeon? Yes / No]

Kai selected Yes, and the world around him shifted.

Inside the Dungeon

When the blinding light of the portal faded, Kai found himself standing in a dimly lit corridor. The air was cold and damp, carrying the faint scent of moss and decay. Flickering torches lined the stone walls, casting long shadows that seemed to dance with malevolence.

[Welcome to The Twisting Hollow.]

Objective: Clear the dungeon by reaching the exit.

Bonus Objective: Defeat the Hidden Guardian.]

Kai's eyes narrowed. A hidden guardian? He hadn't seen that mentioned in the forums. Either no one had found it, or those who did didn't live to tell the tale.

He activated his interface, pulling up the map. As expected, it was blank except for his starting position. The dungeon was a maze, and he would need to navigate it step by step.

The Challenges Begin

Kai moved cautiously, keeping his sword at the ready. The first few corridors were eerily quiet, with only the occasional drip of water echoing through the halls. But as he turned a corner, he spotted his first obstacle—a pressure plate embedded in the floor.

"A trap," he muttered. Kneeling down, he examined it closely. The plate was connected to a mechanism hidden in the wall, likely triggering some kind of projectile.

Carefully, he sidestepped it, his heart pounding as he continued forward. Traps like this were a common feature in low-level dungeons, but that didn't make them any less dangerous.

The next chamber presented a new challenge. Three goblin-like creatures stood guard, each wielding crude weapons. Their levels hovered around 3—higher than his own—but manageable.

Kai steadied his breathing, activating the only ability he had copied so far: [Quick Step]. His body felt lighter, his movements faster as he dashed toward the first goblin.

The fight was clumsy and chaotic, his strikes lacking precision, but Kai's determination carried him through. By the end, the goblins lay defeated, their bodies dissolving into particles.

[Experience Gained: 50]

Kai leaned against the wall, catching his breath. "This is going to be harder than I thought."

The Hidden Guardian

Hours passed as Kai navigated deeper into the maze. Each new corridor presented its own challenges—more traps, stronger monsters, and even a puzzle that required aligning glowing symbols to unlock a door.

But as he neared the dungeon's supposed exit, he stumbled upon something unexpected: a large, ornate door adorned with glowing red runes.

[Hidden Guardian's Lair Detected.]

Warning: Proceed at your own risk.

Kai stared at the notification, his mind racing. He could turn back now and complete the dungeon without engaging the guardian. But the thought of what lay beyond that door—the potential rewards—was too tempting to ignore.

He pushed the door open, stepping into a massive chamber. The temperature dropped instantly, and the air felt heavy with power.

A hulking creature stood in the center of the room, its body a grotesque amalgamation of stone and flesh. Its level was far higher than the goblins, glowing ominously at Level 5.

Kai's grip tightened on his sword. "Here goes nothing."

The battle was brutal. The guardian's strength far outmatched his own, each of its attacks sending shockwaves through the chamber. But Kai relied on his wits, using [Quick Step] to evade and strike when openings presented themselves.

When the guardian finally fell, its body crumbled into dust, leaving behind a glowing chest.

[Dungeon Cleared!]

Rewards: F-Rank Weapon, Minor Health Potion, 200 Experience.]

Kai collapsed to his knees, exhaustion washing over him. Despite the pain and struggle, he couldn't help but smile.

This was just the beginning.
