Reborn: Vanguard Of Hope

Chapter 16: Bloodstone Mountains

Chapter 16: Bloodstone Mountains

Kai woke up early, the faint light of dawn filtering through the forest canopy. The camp was quiet, his teammates still fast asleep, their exhaustion from the dungeon run evident in their peaceful expressions. He sat by the dying embers of their campfire, absently poking at the ashes with a stick.

The memories of his past life weighed heavily on him this morning. They came in flashes—victories and failures, triumphs and regrets. Each one carried lessons he had sworn not to forget, and yet, he found himself repeating old mistakes.

He closed his eyes, trying to focus. His rebirth wasn't just a second chance at life—it was an opportunity to rewrite everything. To prevent the same tragedies, to climb higher than before, and to ensure that no one else suffered because of his arrogance.

The rest of the team began stirring as the sun climbed higher. Lyra was the first to wake, rubbing her eyes and stretching. "You're up early," she said, her voice still groggy.

Kai shrugged. "Couldn't sleep. Too much on my mind."

She gave him a knowing look but didn't press further. Instead, she started preparing a simple breakfast, the scent of roasted meat soon filling the air.

Vorn and Aelric joined them shortly after, their expressions lighter than they had been in days. The successful dungeon run had boosted their morale, and it showed in the way they joked and bantered as they ate.

"We need to plan our next move," Vorn said, his tone serious despite the light atmosphere. "We can't afford to lose this momentum."

"I agree," Lyra said. "But we should focus on smaller dungeons for now. Build up our levels and resources before tackling anything bigger."

Kai nodded. "And we need to refine our teamwork. Yesterday went well, but there's still room for improvement."

Aelric smirked. "Look at you, Mr. Strategist. Who knew you had it in you?"

Kai chuckled, shaking his head. "I've made enough mistakes to know what not to do."

Later That Day

As they traveled back to the city, Kai's thoughts were interrupted by the sudden appearance of a system notification.

[Global Announcement]: A new S-rank dungeon has been discovered in the Bloodstone Mountains. All guilds are advised to proceed with caution.

The team paused, their eyes widening as they read the message.

"S-rank?" Lyra murmured, her voice tinged with awe and fear. "Those are rare."

"And dangerous," Vorn added. "We're nowhere near ready for something like that."

Kai's heart raced as he stared at the notification. Memories of the Bloodstone Mountains surfaced—he had been there before, in his previous life. That dungeon... it had claimed the lives of countless players.

But it had also held secrets. Powerful artifacts and knowledge that could tip the scales in any battle.

"We'll stay away for now," Kai said firmly. "But when the time comes, we'll be ready."

His teammates nodded, trusting his judgment.

Back in the City

The bustling streets of the virtual hub were alive with activity. Players of all ranks filled the marketplace, their voices blending into a chaotic symphony. Merchants called out their wares, offering everything from basic potions to rare, high-rank weapons.

Kai led the team to a secluded corner of the guild hall, where they could plan their next steps in peace.

"We need to tackle another dungeon soon," he began. "But this time, I want us to focus on efficiency. No wasted energy, no unnecessary risks."

Lyra leaned forward, her expression thoughtful. "What about our gear? Some of it barely held up in the last dungeon."

"She's right," Vorn said. "We need better equipment if we're going to survive higher-ranked challenges."

Kai frowned, considering their options. They didn't have enough funds to buy high-quality gear, and crafting it themselves would take time.

"We'll farm for materials in F and E-rank dungeons," he decided. "It's slower, but it's safer and more cost-effective."

Aelric sighed. "Great. More grinding."

Kai smirked. "It's better than dying."

The Next Dungeon Run

The team stood at the entrance of an E-rank dungeon, the air heavy with the scent of damp earth and decay. The entrance was a simple stone archway, vines creeping along its edges.

"This one's supposed to be a maze," Lyra said, reading from the dungeon description. "With traps and a few mid-level monsters."

"Stay sharp," Kai said. "We stick together and move carefully."

The maze was disorienting, its twisting corridors designed to confuse and frustrate. The team encountered several traps—pressure plates that triggered arrow volleys, hidden pits filled with spikes, and walls that suddenly closed in to crush unwary adventurers.

Kai's memories proved invaluable here. Though the layout had changed slightly, the patterns of the traps remained the same.

"Stop," he said abruptly, holding up a hand.

The others froze as a section of the floor ahead shifted slightly.

"Pressure plate," Kai explained. "Step around it."

They moved carefully, avoiding the trap.

The monsters were tougher this time—large, insect-like creatures with razor-sharp mandibles. The fights were intense, but the team's coordination had improved. Vorn held the line with his shield, Lyra and Aelric attacked from range, and Kai provided support, copying abilities as needed.

By the time they reached the dungeon core, they were battered but victorious. The core yielded a handful of E-rank items, including a set of reinforced armor for Vorn and a new staff for Lyra.

Nightfall

Back at their temporary camp, the team sat around the fire, their spirits higher than they had been in days.

"We're getting stronger," Aelric said, his tone lighter than usual.

Lyra smiled. "And smarter. We're starting to feel like a real team."

Kai said nothing, his gaze fixed on the flames. His memories were a double-edged sword—both a blessing and a curse. He knew the challenges that lay ahead, and he was determined to face them.

But for now, he allowed himself to enjoy the moment.
