Chapter 14: *No Title*
Chapter 14:
The eerie silence after the Beast Lord's defeat was heavier than the fight itself. The team stood in the center of the maze-like dungeon, their breaths ragged as they processed what had just occurred. The labyrinth felt alive, as though the dungeon itself was observing their every move.
Kai glanced at his trembling hands, still tingling with the aftershock of the copied power. The primal energy he had borrowed lingered like a storm in his veins, making his pulse race. He gritted his teeth. The strain of using Copy twice—first to mimic the Beast Lord's speed and then its overwhelming strength—had drained him.
"We need to move," Lyra said, breaking the silence. Her sharp gaze swept the corridors. "The roar might've attracted other monsters."
Kai nodded, though his body screamed for rest. Every step sent waves of exhaustion through his legs. His ability had its limits, and now, he was paying the price.
"Are you alright?" Aelric asked, falling into step beside him. His voice was cautious, though his admiration for Kai's display of power was evident.
Kai shook his head slightly, brushing off the concern. "I'll manage."
Vorn took the lead, his heavy shield raised, as the group pressed deeper into the dungeon. The air grew colder, and the faint sound of dripping water morphed into a soft, rhythmic hum.
"That sound," Aelric said uneasily. "It's getting louder."
"It's the dungeon core," Lyra replied. "We're close."
Kai felt a chill run down his spine. The dungeon core was the heart of the labyrinth—and its most dangerous point. Reaching it would guarantee the highest rewards the dungeon could offer. But this place had already tested them beyond their limits.
As they rounded a corner, they entered a massive chamber. The walls glowed faintly with ancient runes, and in the center stood the core: a crystalline structure pulsating with light. Surrounding it were three armored figures—Spectral Sentinels, their forms shimmering like smoke and shadow.
"Level 15," Lyra whispered, her voice taut with tension. "This won't be easy."
Kai's stomach dropped. The team's average level was barely 10. The Spectral Sentinels were a challenge far beyond what they could handle comfortably.
"We can do this," Vorn said, raising his shield. "Stick to the plan. I'll tank, Lyra and Aelric, focus on damage. Kai, support when you can."
The team fell into formation. Vorn charged forward, intercepting the first Sentinel's attack. Lyra and Aelric flanked another, their weapons flashing as they struck in coordinated bursts.
Kai hung back, assessing the battle. His energy reserves were dangerously low after using Copy twice. He had to be careful now. But the fight was turning against them.
Lyra cried out as a Sentinel's blade slipped past her guard, cutting a deep gash in her side. Aelric struggled to fend off the second Sentinel, while Vorn's shield cracked under the relentless assault of the third.
"Kai!" Lyra shouted, desperation in her voice.
Kai clenched his fists, knowing what he had to do. He activated Copy, targeting the closest Sentinel. The familiar surge of energy coursed through him, and a spectral blade materialized in his hand.
He moved into the fray, his borrowed agility and strength giving him a temporary edge. His blade clashed with the Sentinel's, sending sparks flying. The copied power allowed him to hold his own, but it was clear his energy wouldn't last.
"Focus on the core!" Kai shouted, blocking a blow meant for Aelric.
Lyra hesitated but nodded, leading Aelric toward the core. They attacked in tandem, their strikes chipping away at the crystalline structure. Vorn, battered but unyielding, held his ground against the third Sentinel.
The fight reached a fever pitch as the core pulsed violently, sending shockwaves through the chamber. Kai's copied power began to fade, his movements slowing. The Sentinel seized the moment, landing a heavy blow that sent him sprawling.
"Kai!" Lyra screamed, rushing to his side.
The core began to crack, its light dimming as Lyra and Aelric delivered the final blows. The Sentinels froze mid-attack, their forms dissolving into mist. The dungeon trembled, signaling its collapse.
"Move!" Vorn roared, grabbing Kai and throwing him over his shoulder.
The team sprinted through the collapsing corridors, the walls crumbling around them. Kai's vision blurred, but he could feel the determination of his teammates carrying him forward.

The group emerged from the dungeon just as the entrance caved in behind them. They collapsed on the ground, gasping for air.
"We made it," Lyra said, her voice shaky.
Aelric laughed weakly. "Barely."
Kai sat up slowly, his body aching. "I'm sorry," he muttered. "I wasn't strong enough."
Lyra knelt beside him, her expression softening. "You don't have to carry this alone, Kai. We're a team. If we're going to survive, we need to rely on each other."
Vorn grunted in agreement. "Next time, don't push yourself to the brink. We need you alive."
Kai looked at his teammates, guilt and gratitude swirling within him. He had underestimated the dangers of the dungeon and overestimated his ability to protect them. This wasn't just a game—it was survival.
He clenched his fists, a renewed determination filling him. If he was going to climb the ranks and face the Demon King, he couldn't afford to make the same mistakes. He needed to grow stronger—not just for himself, but for the people who were willing to stand by his side.
