Reborn in Type-Moon, My Sister is Aoko Aozaki

Chapter 59: Volume 1: Chapter 60 - Lord Father

[The smooth running of the "ceremony" has clearly calmed the previously restless hearts of the people, which brings you some relief.]

[What you don't understand is that on that night, as your sister Artoria holds you while you both sleep, you can occasionally hear her let out strange giggles of "heheh" in her sleep, making you wonder what she could possibly be dreaming about to be so happy.]

[Similarly, the next morning, when you are practicing your swordsmanship in the castle courtyard as usual, the Knights of the Round Table, as if by prior agreement, push each other forward until Gawain, who has been chosen as their representative, reluctantly stands before you and asks you a strange question.]

["Lord En, may I ask if you rested well last night?"]

[You are somewhat confused as to why he would ask this, but since it is out of concern, you answer Gawain truthfully that everything was fine and there were no problems.]

[But after hearing your words, the Round Table Knights, for some reason, let out a disappointed sigh as if "hating iron for not becoming steel," before one by one resuming their usual training routines.]

[And just as you are about to ask them why they were sighing, a violent explosion, accompanied by a scream, once again comes from the direction of the workroom.]

[You can tell that it is still Merlin's voice.]

[However, a similar incident had already occurred last time. This time, you and the various knights of the Round Table tacitly pretend not to have heard anything and just continue training.]

[But peaceful days are always short-lived. In less than two weeks, the Saxon army once again invades the borders of Britain. News of their burning, killing, and looting continuously arrives on your sister's desk from afar.]

[You quickly assemble the army once more and set out for the region where the war has broken out.]

[However, as you are dispatching troops in winter, and the harvest this year has been poor, your grain reserves are not very sufficient. After engaging the main Saxon army, both sides suffer varying degrees of losses. This war of resistance against the foreign invaders lasts for nearly a year before you are able to temporarily drive out the frenzied Saxons.]

[But the cost is also quite severe.]

[Because during the campaign, your grain supplies were always insufficient. Even with the support from Lancelot's domain, it was still a struggle. So, out of necessity, to drive out the invaders, your sister Artoria still requisitioned the remaining stored grain from several villages during the march.]

[You understand that while this may bring a temporary victory, the Saxons will not give up so easily. In this way, the final result will likely be a vicious cycle: the enemy invades, you attack, but in the process, the villages on the fringes of the war will suffer persecution from both armies, and your own army may slowly lose the support of the people.]

[If the problem of Britain's grain production is not resolved, this is a complete dead end.]

[This matter worries you greatly. Even the cheers of the people upon your return to Camelot cannot dispel the sorrow in your heart.]

"The King! King Arthur! Our great King of Ideals!"

"Lord Gawain! Lord Lancelot, thank you for driving out the invaders!"

"Lord En, please look over here!"

Enthusiastic cheers rang out continuously. The people on both sides of the street constantly expressed their gratitude to King Arthur and her Knights of the Round Table.

However, including Aozaki Rin, none of the Round Table Knights felt the joy of victory; instead, their hearts were somewhat heavy.

Because they knew what price had been paid to achieve this victory. What's more, the war had only paused for a time; it was far from over.

But even so, they still wore smiles on their faces, encouraging the surrounding people and conveying a positive atmosphere.

Aozaki Rin held the reins, riding his white horse at the rear of the procession. Because he was wearing a magic mask and a white hood, no one knew what kind of trouble was currently on his face.

Just as he was pondering how Britain could escape from the vortex of the food problem to lighten the burden on his sister, at that moment, several cries of alarm suddenly rang out. A small figure in a black cloak, who had seemingly been accidentally pushed out of the crowd, stumbled forward a few steps and fell right in the path of his horse.

Instantly sensing another presence in front of him, Aozaki Rin immediately pulled the reins, turning the horse's head and avoiding the figure who had fallen to the ground.

He calmed his white horse, quickly dismounted, and came before the figure. Kneeling down, he reached out and helped up the child, who, judging by their build, was clearly very young. He asked with concern.

"Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere?"

The girl, who looked to be about five years old, looked at the boy before her, who didn't seem to be much older than herself, and for some reason, she froze for a moment.

After a long while, the girl seemed to remember something. She reached up and pulled down the black hood on her head, concealing her golden hair and a small face that seemed faintly familiar. A hint of nervousness flashed in her holy, cerulean eyes, which were dotted with a ring of gold, and then she began to fumble around on her person in a fluster.

After a while, the girl pulled a slightly crushed flower from her clothes, its petals bent, and handed it to the boy, saying in a small voice.

"I-I'm fine. Also... this is for you."

"...Thank you. I'll take good care of it."

Aozaki Rin blinked, somewhat surprised, but still accepted the girl's gift with a light laugh. After all, this was also a form of gratitude from the people, and he had received many similar items in the past.

However, after confirming that the girl was not injured and had only taken a small fall, just as Aozaki Rin was about to get up and leave, the girl suddenly grabbed his cloak and said nervously.

"P-Please, may I see your face, Fath... no, um... Lord En?"

The boy froze for a moment, but after a short pause, he nodded. He gently took off the mask on his face, revealing a delicate and cute face that, though youthful, did not seem unreliable. It was adorned with a pure and gentle smile.

Aozaki Rin's unfocused eyes "looked" at the girl, a smile in the corner of his eyes as he said softly.

"Is this okay? But please don't spread the word about my appearance. Can you keep it a secret between us?"

The girl stared blankly at the boy's face. It was only when his voice sounded that she quickly nodded and promised.

"Mhm, mhm, I won't tell anyone."

"Thank you. And be more careful next time."

Watching the boy's departing figure as he remounted his horse, put his mask back on, and continued to follow the procession, the girl stood there in a daze for a long time before reluctantly retracting her gaze.

But she immediately began to run lightly, her nimble figure weaving through the crowd, showing none of the weakness from when she had been knocked down just now.

And after passing through the crowd, who were still gazing at the Knights of the Round Table, the girl arrived at a dark alley that had a good view of the castle entrance. She threw herself into the arms of a mature, beautiful woman in a black robe, whose fine figure was still hard to conceal, looked up, and said excitedly.

"Mother, I just spoke with Lord Father!"
