Chapter 46: Volume 1: Chapter 47 - 047: Artoria: Marriage is Absolutely Impossible

Clash.

The sound of swords meeting echoed through the air.

Lancelot, wielding his undamaged Lake Light, narrowly avoided a strike aimed at his chest and was preparing to counterattack when, unexpectedly, the boy who had been right before him vanished.

By the time he realized something was amiss, a sword had already come up from behind him, its tip stopping just a hair's breadth from his neck.

"…I lost," Lancelot said, his body stiff for a moment before relaxing. He shook his head with mild regret.

However, there was no sign of disappointment on his face—just a sense of having been bested. Turning to the boy who had already sheathed Durandal, he scratched his head and said with a sigh, "It turns out I really can't keep up with you, En. Next time, at least let me land a few hits."

"It's nothing," Cangzaki Rin replied with a smile, shaking his head. "I just happen to be good at this."

Currently, he stood in the courtyard of Camelot's castle, sparring with several knights. Ever since they had retaken Camelot from Vortigern, the city had been undergoing reconstruction, with craftsmen and disguised fairies working tirelessly to restore its splendor.

Afterward, many knights, hearing of the return of King Arthur, came to pledge their loyalty. Under Artoria's leadership and with the collaboration of the knights, a special group known as the Round Table was established.

Lancelot, who had played a crucial role in retaking Camelot, had been invited to join the Round Table by Artoria. Despite some objections from Agravain, due to the need for food supplies in the army, Lancelot's inclusion was approved.

"No, simply being skilled isn't enough to reach that level. You must have undergone rigorous training," Lancelot chuckled lightly. He looked over at Tristan, one of the Round Table knights, who had a reflective look on his face. Gently stroking his harp-like weapon, Fîrnot, Tristan spoke:

"Ah, how unyielding. Even knowing failure awaits, you continue to charge forward without hesitation. The Knight of the Lake..."

"Hey, are you cursing me?" Lancelot grumbled, irritated by his friend's poetic remarks.

"No, I'm merely stating the facts. After all, we all lost to En at one point," Tristan replied casually, before his gaze turned to the boy standing in the courtyard: Cangzaki Rin.

"As I see it, En truly is unmatched."

Lancelot couldn't help but laugh softly. He then shifted his attention to the rest of the knights gathered around him: Agravain, Percival, Gawain, Gareth, and Palamedes.

It was then that Gawain, lost in thought, asked: "But why hasn't En joined the Round Table? With his strength, he would definitely qualify as one of the knights."

"As I am now, my presence in the Round Table would likely cause discontent among the others," En replied seriously. "Besides, as long as I can protect my king, it doesn't matter what position I hold."

Despite having the body of a child and the appearance of someone frozen in time—much like Artoria—En had gained the respect of the soldiers. His identity had become a symbol of strength and protection, his loyalty to Artoria unshakeable.

"I thought you were much older than Percival and Gareth," Percival commented, his broad form dressed in light armor and holding a spear. He gave En a warm smile, his expression turning serious as he prepared for another round.

Without further words, they began the next round of their sparring.

In the castle's administrative office, Merlin stood by the window, watching the knights sparring in the courtyard. With amusement in his voice, he spoke to Artoria, who was seated behind her desk, handling state matters.

"Don't you care about the outcome of the sparring, Lily?"

"Well, En will win anyway. Lancelot and the others will just have to learn from this," Artoria responded with a smile, focused on her work.

"The Saxons seem to have crossed the sea again. Who do you plan to send to the southern borders?"

"Let Tristan and Bedwyr go. If it's those two, we should be able to hold out for a month," Artoria replied calmly, making tactical decisions as she worked.

"That's a good idea, though it may be a bit hard on Bedwyr. But... I suppose there's no other choice. After all, this year has been particularly bad for harvests. I'm afraid the next two years may be just as bleak," Merlin remarked, shrugging as if he had anticipated this.

Since the defeat of Vortigern, Britain's food production had been on the decline, yet the wars continued unabated. Merlin suspected that internal problems were brewing.

"Don't worry. With Lancelot's support, I don't think this situation will last forever. One day, things will change," Artoria said with a reassuring smile, though it was tinged with a hint of uncertainty.

Merlin sighed quietly, sensing that the situation was worse than he had initially anticipated. He chose not to bring it up again and instead shifted the topic.

"Well, speaking of that... Have you heard the concerns of the people regarding something else, Artoria?"

"...You mean 'marriage'?" Artoria's voice tightened as she turned to him with an annoyed look. "Please don't joke about this, Merlin. You know what the situation is. I'm not about to sacrifice someone's future just to ease the public's worries."

Merlin chuckled lightly, a teasing smile on his face as he asked, "Is that because you don't want to, or because you don't wish to?"

"Naturally, it's because I don't want to," Artoria snapped, clearly uncomfortable with the topic. She knew what the public was concerned about, but what they didn't know was that she was already a woman herself. How could she marry another woman and produce a male heir to the throne?

"Well then," Merlin said, his tone light and teasing. "How about if the other person were En?"

Artoria froze, her confident smile faltering for a moment. After several seconds, she managed to force a smile, her fingers nervously crumpling the papers in front of her. "W-What are you talking about, Merlin? Why would you bring En's name up now? This has nothing to do with him. Hahaha..."

"You're right," Merlin agreed with a nod. "But you know, even though En appears as he does, he should technically be of an age to marry. A while back, Kay complained to me that Hector was pressuring him to get married. Maybe I could help En out as well? I know a few people who could help... Lancelot and the others might be willing to introduce him to someone."

"Don't you dare—!"

Before Merlin could finish, Artoria leaped to her feet, slamming her palm down onto the desk. She grabbed her sacred spear and turned toward him, her green eyes filled with fiery anger.

"Wait a minute! I was just joking, Lily! Don't use the Excalibur on me! You can't just wave it around like that!"

—Boom!

The sound of an explosion echoed as the desk was shattered, a hole appearing in the wall of the office. The knights in the courtyard looked up, startled by the noise, glancing at each other in confusion.

Cangzaki Rin, too, raised an eyebrow, recognizing the mournful cry that had come from inside the building.

Why...?

Meanwhile, in the Castle of Orkney, inside the magic workshop...

Morgan, her lips curling into an anticipatory smile, watched the pink bubbles of the brewing magic potion.

"It's almost done... Get ready for my revenge, Arthur!"
