Chapter 10: Chapter nine
It had been almost two days since his conversation with Impa when Terrance and several villagers saw a man clad in a different Sheikah gear limped his way into the village. The tight fitted suit that most of the Sheikah warriors wore was torn in several places, and the metal lamalar that was layered on top of various areas were dented and charred.
The man looked like he had just walked through hell. His cheeks were hollowed, and his eyes were dark with massive circled under his eyes. As soon as he reached the gate, he collapsed onto the ground.
Terrance watched as two of the guards left their posts and gently picked the man up before carrying him towards Impa's house.
Excusing himself Terrance followed and stopped at the bottom of the stairs leading up to Impa's place. The two guards that were usually there had left their post to help carry the warrior up and into the building. Taking a moment to consider, Terrance walked up the stairs as well. He had already offered to help Impa clear her worries about her sister's well-being.
As he made it to the double doors, he could hear words being spoken in the other side.
Not wanting people to think he was eavesdropping, Terrance stood at the top of the gates and waited for someone to exit the door.
After a few minutes the inside of the building went quiet. The door opened and an irate Impa walked out. She was on her own not followed by anyone.
"Those Hylia forsaken traitors..." She was muttering with a dark furious expression on her face.
"Lady Impa, is everything alright?" Asked Terrance.
Impa looked up, surprised to see someone else in the patio. "Ah Mr. Grayson. Excellent timing. Please come. I have a request I must ask of you."
Following her inside, Terrance saw the man Laying on a mat woven from bamboo, he was still breathing, and there was another Sheikah sitting next to him, tending to his wounds.
"Lady Impa, if I may ask, what happened to that Warrior?" asked Terrance.
"No need to worry, the news he brought is one of the reasons behind my request. He was part of my sister's expedition party, one of the warriors tasked with keeping them safe." Said Impa before continuing, "From what he said, they were ambushed by members of the Yiga Clan as they were exploring the remains of Hyrule Castle, the Yiga are a disgraceful, exiled, faction of us Sheikah, who turned their backs on the Goddess Hylia, and now worship Calamity Ganon. As part of their ambush, they also lead a wave of monsters, the expedition team had to split up to have any hope to survive as they ran. This warrior had stayed behind with a few others to try and hold the Yiga and monster back. Fortunately for him, despite worshiping the progenitor of these beasts, the monsters did not turn a blind eye to the Yiga and attacked them as well, forcing them into a three-way brawl. The ensuing commotion allowed for the warriors to regroup and select one of their own to run back here and request reinforcements."
"How long has it been since the ambush?" asked Terrance, in a place like Hyrule Castle, he did not see how anyone, even the stealthy Sheikah could survive for long, especially after being ambushed.
"It has only been a few days, Katsu here said that the group had been carrying enough individual rations to survive for a week. We should have time to send a party there and find them before they run out of vital supplies, and that is where you come in." Said Impa. "Currently we have a shortage of warriors, with those who are out patrolling our immediate area, and the ones who left on the expedition, we do not have many people to spare to go out and fight. With the recent sighting of a large group of Bokoblins, we need to keep our guard up for the civilians. I wanted to ask that you make a run to Hyrule Castle with some supplies, check on the situation, gather the survivors of the expedition, come, or send a message back, and await for the rest of the warriors to solve the local monster problem."
"So you want me to go out, sneak into Hyrule Castle, see if there are any survivors, drop off supplies to keep them going, then relay the information to you, and wait for the rest of the warriors to come help them?" Asked Terrance.
"Yes, that is the gist of my request. However....in the worst-case scenario, where you find no survivors, could you please bring an item of each of the team so that we may hold a ceremony for them?" asked Impa.
"Just a few items? not their remains, or the location of the remains?" asked Terrance.
"Indeed, over the past few decades, we have found that corpses exposed to a significant amount of Calamity Ganon's Malice become infused with his unholy power and reanimate under when his anger reaches its peak during a blood moon, no matter how many times you strike them down and return them to the earth, they will reanimate and dig themselves out to hunt for the living. As much as I would hate leaving my own sister's remains to rot in the depths of Hyrule Castle, it is a sacrifice many have made, and I cannot endanger my people over mere sentimentality." Explained Impa.
"I see, well then it is best to set out, where are the supplies that you want me to bring?" said Terrance, his voice and eyes relaying a strong resolve.
"They are currently being prepared by some of my assistants; however, I am surprised by how quickly you accepted." Said Impa, "Do you not know how dangerous the task will be? You may have defeated a Guardian, but there are swarms of them in the area around Hyrule Castle, not to mention the Skywatchers and Turrets."
"Lady Impa, I am in your debt, you allowed me to stay here even if it would cause unrest among your people, you even managed to help settle most of the discord regarding my appearance with your village. Other than some staring here and there nobody has treated me differently or as some less then human demon. If you need help than call for my aid as you need, additionally, since this is an urgent matter, one where time matters and lives are on the line, then spending time pondering the danger is a waste of time. I promise, if they are alive, I will bring your sister and the others back home and to their families. If not, then not a single monster or Yiga will escape that castle alive." Said Terrance, his voice falling to a cold tone towards the end, sending a shiver through the spine of the Sheikah attending Katsu's wounds.
Impa, moved by Terrance's words placed a hand on his shoulder, "Thank you Mr. Greyson, but there is no need to go that far on my account, I just did what any reasonable person should do, but it does put me at ease having a good-hearted warrior like yourself being someone I can rely on."
A Sheikah appeared with a puff of smoke, carrying a set of light armor similar to what Katsu had worn, and a belt with four leather pouches.
"Lady Impa, the Armor and supplies you requested have been prepared." said the assistant before they disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
"Terrance please come and take these, they will be vital to your mission." Said Impa as she held the belt with pouches on it.
Terrance stepped forward and examined the armor it covered the vital areas with laminar but was made out of fabric and bamboo plates. it seemed to be as defensive as his leather armor, but he waited for Impa's explanation.
"That armor, and others like it are made with techniques passed down by my ancestors, it boasts protection comparable to leather armor, but also drastically improves one's stealth by quieting the wearer's movements, and removing most of their scent, making it more difficult to be detected and tracked by enemies. Normally one has to undergo training to learn the basic techniques used by our warriors and spies before donning this armor, but in your case it's base properties should prove useful." said Impa as Terrance took the armor into a small private room and changed into it.
Coming back after changing into the new armor, Terrace felt lighter and could hear the difference in the noise his walking made. Impa held out the belt for him to take.
"Are these the supplies? aren't I supposed to carry supplies for an expedition team?" asked Terrance as he took the belt and fastened it to his waist.
"That belt, well, more specifically, the pouches were made to be much bigger on the inside, allowing for more items to be stored in them, they also have an effect of drastically reducing the weight of the items held within them. please, take good care of them, they are exceedingly difficult to craft, each one lost is the loss of decades of a craftsman's work." said Impa.
Looking at the pouches again, Terrance had a newfound appreciation for what he had just been handed. "I will do my upmost to keep them safe and sound" he said. "Now if that is all, could I get a map to where I need to go? it would be nice to know what route they might have taken as some might be tracing their steps back here after making it out."
"That has already been accounted for, you will find a map in the front left pouch on your belt." replied Impa.
"Ah, thank you, I shall be off then, please convey my apologies to Ms. Haru for me as I will not be able to help with the cleaning for the next few days." Said Terrance as he quickly left for the door.
Making his way toward the ravine he had traveled through to make it to the village just a few days ago, Terrance sighed to himself. "On the road once more, lets go."
